A Postcard a Day - 3 September 2015 Coco Chanel

Good Morning! Good Thursday!

This week I received many postcards again. In my Postcrossing profile I write that I love black and white photos. So often people oblige and this week I got a lovely card with Coco Chanel on it.
Sent to me by Sabine from Germany. She lives and works in Oberhausen. Apart from Postcrossing she also likes writing to penpals. Thank you Sabine!

The photo of miss Chanel was taken in 1937 by photographer John Phillips.

Wikipedia writes this about her:

Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971)[1] was a French fashion designer and founder of the Chanel brand. Along with Paul Poiret, Chanel was credited with liberating women from the constraints of the "corseted silhouette" and popularizing a sportive, casual chic as the feminine standard of style in the post-World War I era. A prolific fashion creator, Chanel's influence extended beyond couture clothing. Her design aesthetic was realised in jewellery, handbags, and fragrance. Her signature scent, Chanel No. 5, has become an iconic product. She is the only fashion designer listed on Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.[2]

Chanel was known for her lifelong determination, ambition, and energy which she applied to her professional and social life.
Some of her quotes:
'Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.'

'Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.'

'There is a time for work and a time for love. That leaves no other time.'

'Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity.'

That's it from me.

See you tomorrow when i link up with Friday Smiles and will give you something to smile about.

Blessings,

Lisca

  1. HI Lisca, I'm sorry I've been so neglectful in getting around to visit you. I missed so many post, but went back and read them all. So I'm going to roll all my comments together...LOL.

I LOVE Chanel, her life was very interesting to me, I think I have watched every film ever made of her. A very wise woman for her time, and what a business woman....even by today's standards.

I found the picture of you house very interesting and much bigger than I had imagined. I find it fascinating that it has so many levels, and use of the roof tops as well.

They are harvesting the almonds and grapes here too. The air (and my house) is full of dust from them shaking the trees and then sweeping up the almonds. The grape pickers are all over the place, the harvest looks to be good for both nuts and grapes, despite the draught conditions. The farmers get to use the water, almost before we do...but I like to eat so I don't complain to much. Your grape juice looks tasty and inviting.

Great postage stamps on the post cards your received. I found them to be really interesting (once your explained what they said...LOL)

Hope you have a wonderful time in your travel van, hope to see you sooner next week.
