A Postacard a Day - Friday 30 Oct 2015 Friday Smiles

Good Morning Friday Smilers! I'm linking with Annie at Friday Smiles to share what has been good this week.

My blog is mainly about postcards so I will show you a card I received yesterday that made me very happy:

I love turtles. Here is one in his natural habitat (i.e. in the water). The card came from the Czech Republic and had lovely stamps on it:

The stamp on the left is shaped like a flag and the one on the right is a spa hotel (they call it a 'wellness' hotel).

The person sending the card is called Eliska (similar to my name) and she did lovely drawings on the back. This personal touch made my day!

Now, changing the subject entirely, I really enjoyed Zoe's 'questionnaire' last week and I thought I'd have a go too:

Location: craft room

Feeling: a bit frustrated. Have bought an external back up storage which I can't get to work!

Loving: my new haircut

Reading: A Year Of Living Danishly by Helen Russell (We are visiting friends in Denmark in January so I thought I'd read up on Denmark)

Drinking: pink grapefruit squash

Anticipating: Collecting my new computer tomorrow(!)

Listening to: Kitty purring

Watching: We don't have TV, and it's night time so there is no view from my window.

Planning: What to cook for dinner tomorrow (guinness beef pie) and what to bake on Saturday (probably something with apples)

Looking forward to: Spending Christmas with my mum in Holland before moving into the new flat we are building.

Creating: chaos, no not true, but I have no projects on the go. 

Need to finish: Backing up my computer before the new one arrives.

Wishing: I hadn't pigged out so much this summer.... I need to lose weight!

Main goal this week: Get the computer sorted.

A Postcard a day - 6 August 2015 tomatoes

Good morning!

Yesterday was 'happy mail' day again! I found six postcards in my postbox. Wow! I can't keep up...

The one I'm showing you today is last week's though as I haven't scanned the new ones in yet.

One of the things I love about living here in rural Spain is the fresh fruit and vegetables. Everything tastes so much better. Tomatoes are one of those things. I just love the taste of real tomatoes. So I was really pleased when I received a card about tomatoes...

It was sent from the Czech Republic and is of course for my collection of Nouvelles Images cards.

The stamps are beautiful:

 The large stamp features a lynx and a bird with the Latin name of picoides tridactylus which in English is the three-toed woodpecker.
The flowers on the other stamps are not named in Latin or English so I don't really know....

I'll be here again tomorrow to show you another card. It will be one with a smile as I will link in with Friday smiles.

A Postcard a Day PCAD Windows from Finland

Hi everyone,

I love windows and doors on postcards. (Don’t ask me why.... this is food for psychologists I suppose).

This week I received two postcards with windows, and they were both from Finland!

1.   The first window was sent by Janina from Kristiinankaupunki.  Which is the Finnish name for Kristinestad.  (Kristinestad is a town and a municipality in Finland. It is located in the western part of Finland on the shore of the Bothnian Sea. Wikipedia)

She put a unusually shaped stamp on it of the Finnish flag.

This one is from Mervi in Finland.

It has that beautiful stamp on it that Bridget showed some time ago.

The sentiment on the card reads in Finnish: Iloa ja valoa paivaasi. I went straight to an online translator and it came up with: ‘Joy and light to your day’. 

That is a lovely wish. I wish that also to you: Joy and Light to your Day!

PCAD A postcard a day - dog in the book case (!)

The dog in the book case!

This week I received my first ever card from Luxembourg! It was sent by Jessica who wrote to me in Spanish.

 This Grand Duchy is a small country wedged between France Belgium and Germany. It has about half a million inhabitants. It used to be Dutch and was owned by the Dutch royal family, until Wilhelmina became queen at the end of the 19th century (Luxembourg only accepted male heirs). I think it is a republic now. 

The card is lovely. I like black and white cards very much. So here it is: the dog in the book case!

The stamp looks like a painted landscape (I assume of Luxembourg).

WOYWW 316, messy desk, chocolate cat and chocolate medal.

Hello deskhoppers! 

It’s Wednesday again, which means we get to snoop around each other’s desks to see what we are up to (or not). If you have no idea what I’m on about, have a look at Julia’s website where she explains all about this WOYWW (Whats on your workdesk Wednesday). http://www.stamping-ground.blogspot.com.es/

This is my desk last night. As you can see it’s an almighty mess. But a good mess as I’m actually making stuff. I’ve made a card for one of the grandies’ first birthday.(left of the paper trimmer)

It was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest (using buttons and Kraft paper).

I also made a ‘thank-you card for my aerobics/gym teacher with a chocolate medal. The gym closes for the summer and all us girls have put money in the hat as a thank-you for the teacher. It normally just gets put in an envelope but I made a card. The Spanish don’t ‘do’ cards at all so I hope they all think it’s a good idea. (I’ll let you know next week).

In the desk photo you can also see the little concertina books I’m working on for the grandchildren. I’ve been painstakingly stamping Bible verses on each page. I had to finish all that last night as I’m going to the post office this morning to send the whole caboodle off to the UK.

This week I received ten postcards! (from Bulgaria, Slovenia, Finland x 2, Japan, Germany x 2 , Hongkong, USA, Netherlands). I'm a member of Postcrossing  (https://www.postcrossing.com/). So today I will send postcards to other fellow Postcrossers. One of the cards I’ll be sending today is by artist Oxana Zaika. She paints cats in a special way. I buy the cards from a Russian website, so when my Postcrossing recipient put down Oxana Zaika as her favourite, I found one in my collection. I love them.

WOYWW travelling in a campervan

Happy Wednesday!

We are travelling in Spain on our way to England. Today we are in the north spanish port of Santander. I'm in a cafe in the docks that has wifi.

Obviously I have no desk to share with you although a real crafter never travels without some supplies. In true form I have aLiscaa box of 'stuff'. Here is a photo of the table/desk in the camper.

we have spent the last 4 days just outside Santander in a beautiful area called Cantabria. The highlight of our stay was the visit to the elephant enclosure where we saw numerous elephants, a baby too. There were impala and buffalo. A real treat to see them.

The ferry won't leave until tonight so we plan to go for a walk along the boulevard and lovely beaches. Shame the weather is not so good.

I'll leave it at that. I will try to visit some of you when we are on board tonight. There is bound to be wifi on board.
