A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 1 March - T for Finnish coffee, new kitchen and some weird stuff

It seems I only blinked since New Year's Day and now it is March! Time flies! What's more... it's Tuesday!

Here is my postcard for today:

It's from Finland and features the famous Paula-girl. The Paula girl advertised the Paulig brand coffee and was always dressed in national costume. This photo/advert is from 1950. It was sent to me by Ritva, a lady the same age as me. She writes that the temperatures are 2 degrees C. Brrr!

My most exciting news is that the kitchen cabinets that the carpenter is making, have been put up (albeit without doors) but it gives me an idea of how my kitchen is going to look. The doors are going to be of solid wood but the cabinet carcasses not as you can see. (would be too heavy).

Tomorrow he is going to bring the doors, a few more shelves, the sink and the cooker hood. I can't wait! When that is done we can order the granite worktop. I hope that doesn't take too long...

I subscribe to a website called The Graphics Fairy to get daily free vintage images (that I can use in scrapbooking). This is what I got last week:

She is called the Sugar bowl girl and originally was a table place card with the name of the person sitting in that place written on the empty card.

Here is her male counter part:

He is a quirky teapot boy. (He looks quite distressed) Quirky? I call that weird!

A Postcard a Day - Friday 20 Nov 2015 Friday Smiles

Good Morning! 

It's Friday today and I hope life has given you plenty to smile about. If you are going through a bad time, Think of the little blessings and acts of kindness that have come your way.

Life is good for me (for us) at the moment. the building work is coming on and I have some photos to share, but first my postcard. I got it this week:

 It was sent to me by Joni in Finland. He apologised that it was not a subject from my wish list. Actually, it is very timely as my husband and I will celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary on Sunday. It was love at first sight and we still love each other as much now as in the beginning.

The stamp is another example of Finnish design. I love Finnish design. The artist is Birger Kaipiainen, who specializes in ceramics. The plate on the stamp is from 1970 and is from the 'Arabia' range:

I found it for sale in this Etsy shop for 61.84 Euros.

My husband has been working on our funny shaped bedroom and little en-suite toilet. We found some tiles left over from the main bathroom in the other house so He used them for the little loo.

The pattern is a modern version of the Andalusian/Islamic art of the Moors. (I live in Granada, so in the middle of it).
The bedroom is getting its last coat of paint.

 This is what I mean by funny shaped.... triangular! This little corner is going to be a wardrobe.

 Here is a photo of our little Precious. She has turned out to be a 'he', but we still call him Precious. I've posted this already on Tuesday, but not everybody joins in with T for Tuesday.

 And finally, this is my 'funny' for this week. It's a bit disgusting really, but it did make me smile at the same time....

 As I said before, my husband and I will be celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary this Sunday and we will probably go out for lunch somewhere. It doesn't matter really what we do. As long as we're together.
We married each other later in life, but these have been the happiest years of my life. (My husband will be 69 next week).

A Postcard a Day - Friday 13 Nov 2015

Good Morning! It's nearly weekend!

Today I am linking up with Friday Smiles at Annie's A Stitch in Time. 

I have so much to be thankful for that I don't know where to start.
The building work is progressing at a good pace. Next week I will have some photos to show you.

Our lovely kitten is growing and is very playful. Again, some photos are forthcoming.

For now I will show you some postcards that will hopefully make you smile:

Yes, it's Inge Look's naughty old ladies again! They obviously have something to celebrate! This card was sent to me recently by Jaka from Slovenia.

Four days later I received another card illustrated by Inge Look:

This one came from Finland and was sent to me by Marit. She writes that Finland is the land of Inge Look, Ahtisaari, Moomin, Nokia, Santa Claus, reindeer, snow, lakes, forests, archipelago, sauna and  much more. Now I know who Santa Claus is, and Moomin,


but Ahtisaari I had to look up. 

Marti Ahtisaari is a former president of Finland and a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. He is an expert in international peace mediation, diplomacy and post-conflict state building.

Marit put an interesting stamp on this card:

The Children of Bodom are a rock band. They are classified as a melodic death metal band, that were formed in 1993. They are one of Finland's best selling artists. The name was inspired by the Lake Bodom Murders, an 1960 unsolved murder case on the shores of Lake Bodom.
Interesting, but it doesn't sound like my cup of tea...

A postcard a Day -- 30 Sept 2015 T for Tuesday

Good Morning Good Tuesday!

And welcome to the T for Tuesday people. It’s T for Walnuts here in Spain. We’re going nuts here. Last week we went away for a few days to a camp site nearby and on one of our walks we saw many walnut trees, dropping their harvest.

We picked many and came home with a bag full!

I love walnuts in cakes and muffins (coffee and walnut...yummmm).

Now I have to show you something drink related...

This is at my friends' house. When we come she always makes a special little pot of tea for my husband who is British. Out comes the 'teapot-sitting-on-a-cup' and the box of English tea. Isn't that kind! The rest of us drink ordinary herbal stuff, like this:

I think this is called 'Hierba Louisa'. It's usually freshly picked.

I don't need to tell you where this one is from. It's from Finland and it was one of the first cards I received when I joined Postcrossing. It makes me thirsty just to look at it. (But not for beer! Certainly not in the morning!).

I'll go and put the kettle on and make myself a brew.

A Postcard a Day - Friday 25 Sept 2015 Friday Smiles

Hello Friday Smilers! 

Has there been something to smile about this week? I'm sure there was if you think about it. In fact there will have been many smiley moments. I hope to read about all your smiles at A Stitch in Time. 

I'm smiling because tonight we will be driving to Malaga Airport to pick up one daughter and one grandson! He is ten years old (or will be soon, this is his birthday treat) and we have some fun things planned.

My card for today is this one:

Two little munchkins from Finland. Aren't they gorgeous? It was sent to me by Juha, who lives with his wife and two dogs in a small village in Finland (2300 inhabitants).

This is the stamp. That too is gorgeous. It looks like a flower fairy, but i have not been able to find out more info about this stamp.

When I say I had lots to smile about.... my husband and I have been away in our campervan. We stayed local as we live in such a beautiful area. Here are some photos:

A little bridge we had just walked across.

All of a sudden we spotted some deer in front of us. They stood still, as did we and we looked at each other for a minute or so, then they ran off. Wow!

Good Morning!

This first 'notice' I picked up this week is for all of you who can't resist a nice piece of material. Yes, I mean You!

But I normally show you a postcard... Here is one from my collection of  postcards designed by Inge Look. Even the 'naughty old ladies' are enjoying their holiday. One of them has her bum in a tub of water! 

It was sent to me by Sakari in Finland. He lives in Turku, the oldest city in Finland. He told me he was a retired hospital chaplain. 

He did put a special I Love Postcrossing stamp on  it! How cool is that!

A postcard a day 4 August 2015 T for Tuesday

Hello my friends and especially T for Tuesday people,

This is a postcard from my collection by the artist Inge Look. She draws the 'naughty' old ladies who have lots of fun. This is one of my favorites. 

Wouldn't this be fun! Making a den under the table and having a cuppa with my bestie who brings along a bunch of flowers. I'd have cakes and chocolates at the ready and we'd have a whale of a time!

Pia, who sent me the card wrote about an interesting project she did in her family. This is literally what she wrote:
"We did a project in my family last April. The project called “Don’t buy anything in April”. During that time we didn’t buy any food, cosmetics, fuel, postcards etc. We ate what was found in the refrigerator, freezer and cupboards. There is no any reason for the project. One day we just joked/debated that it is possible. Before that we didn’t buy any extra items. During the project we learnt a lot about our life and how people too often buy the completely unnecessary items, mainly impulse buys, like chocolate! I hope that we learnt to think before we are going to buy something from the store. In this case we saved ourselves as well as money and the environment."

The stamp is beautiful:

It was much requested and was issued in March 2014. In time for the wedding invitations to be sent out, as this stamp was called 'wedding'. Designed and photographed by Ari Lakaniemi and Susanna Rumpu, the self-adhesive stamp is printed on foil paper which makes the rings glisten like real gold rings.

I'm going to link in with T for Tuesday, so you can all have a giggle with the naughty ladies and perhaps also have a serious thought about your shopping habits...

A Postcard a Day PCAD Windows from Finland

Hi everyone,

I love windows and doors on postcards. (Don’t ask me why.... this is food for psychologists I suppose).

This week I received two postcards with windows, and they were both from Finland!

1.   The first window was sent by Janina from Kristiinankaupunki.  Which is the Finnish name for Kristinestad.  (Kristinestad is a town and a municipality in Finland. It is located in the western part of Finland on the shore of the Bothnian Sea. Wikipedia)

She put a unusually shaped stamp on it of the Finnish flag.

This one is from Mervi in Finland.

It has that beautiful stamp on it that Bridget showed some time ago.

The sentiment on the card reads in Finnish: Iloa ja valoa paivaasi. I went straight to an online translator and it came up with: ‘Joy and light to your day’. 

That is a lovely wish. I wish that also to you: Joy and Light to your Day!
