A Postcard a Day - Monday 23 Nov 2015 - Map Monday

Good Morning! It's Monday again! That weekend has flown by!
My husband and I have celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary yesterday with a lovely meal out. We had a really super day.

Today I am showing you two postcards. They are both maps of Taiwan and are a bit similar in style. Here is the first one:

I cannot find out from which era the map dates but it is written in Dutch. It reads (in Dutch) The Island of Formosa and the Islands of the Pescadoris. These last islands, now called the Penghu or Pescadores Islands, are a group of 64 islands in the Strait of Taiwan. 

The card was sent to me last year by Hsin-yu Chang, a high school student. I don't know whether Hsin-yu is a boy or a girl. I think she might be a girl as there are some 'girly' stickers on the card. She did a drawing of me (a very good likeness after my photograph) and a turtle, as she knew I love turtles.

The second card is an image of a Taiwan map from 1896:

It's very detailed, and the Pescadores Islands are on the left.

The stamps are magnificent:

I can't find any info on these stamps. The one on the left is a coral and the horse no doubt refers to the Year of the Horse (2014). The third stamp features cyclists.

A Postacard a Day - Friday 30 Oct 2015 Friday Smiles

Good Morning Friday Smilers! I'm linking with Annie at Friday Smiles to share what has been good this week.

My blog is mainly about postcards so I will show you a card I received yesterday that made me very happy:

I love turtles. Here is one in his natural habitat (i.e. in the water). The card came from the Czech Republic and had lovely stamps on it:

The stamp on the left is shaped like a flag and the one on the right is a spa hotel (they call it a 'wellness' hotel).

The person sending the card is called Eliska (similar to my name) and she did lovely drawings on the back. This personal touch made my day!

Now, changing the subject entirely, I really enjoyed Zoe's 'questionnaire' last week and I thought I'd have a go too:

Location: craft room

Feeling: a bit frustrated. Have bought an external back up storage which I can't get to work!

Loving: my new haircut

Reading: A Year Of Living Danishly by Helen Russell (We are visiting friends in Denmark in January so I thought I'd read up on Denmark)

Drinking: pink grapefruit squash

Anticipating: Collecting my new computer tomorrow(!)

Listening to: Kitty purring

Watching: We don't have TV, and it's night time so there is no view from my window.

Planning: What to cook for dinner tomorrow (guinness beef pie) and what to bake on Saturday (probably something with apples)

Looking forward to: Spending Christmas with my mum in Holland before moving into the new flat we are building.

Creating: chaos, no not true, but I have no projects on the go. 

Need to finish: Backing up my computer before the new one arrives.

Wishing: I hadn't pigged out so much this summer.... I need to lose weight!

Main goal this week: Get the computer sorted.

A Postcard a day - 31 July 2015 turtle not smiling

Good morning peeps,

The postcard I'm showing you today made me smile so I'm linking up with the Friday's smile people. (Hello you smiley people!). 

On my Postcrossing profile I've mentioned that I love turtles, so quite often I receive a card with a turtle or tortoise. This particular turtle does not seem amused! But I was! 

This card was sent to me recently from Germany by Dajana. She writes this:

A Postcard a Day 11 July'15 Child and turtle

Hello everyone.,

Isn't it nice when people (I.e. fellow postcrossers) read my profile and make an effort to find a card that I like! 

This week I received a card from Sheli in Germany. 

She must have read that I like black and white cards, and that I like turtles, because this is the card she sent me. A little boy in large wellies, trying to wash an even larger turtle.

I also saw on the back, that it is a card from Nouvelles Images. Another thing I had put on my list of 'likes'. Thank you Sheli.

The stamp is beautiful and features Schloss Ludwigslust  (Ludwigslust Palace). I looked it up and it is a stately home (or schloss) in the town of Ludwigslust, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, northern Germany.

And now, just for fun, another turtle/tortoise card I received from Germany a while ago:

The little German rhyme translates (roughly):

Where do you rush to , why the hurry?

It is much nicer just to dwell ,

And above all to think about,

Giving yourself a parcel of time.

WOYWW 315, tortoises, vines and a different Dunnett

Hi folks! Sorry I had to miss last week, we were still travelling through Europe. We've now finally arrived home (Thursday). Oh its good to be home! I'm still not completely sorted out and I haven't washed everything, but hey, easy does it.













                       Here is the photo of my desk. No project on the go as yet. (although I should be making a card for the first birthday of one of our grandchildren) Instead you can see two scrapbook albums with page protectors that I bought in the UK. In the foreground is some artwork by Hannah Dunnett, whose work I love.

Work on our house is continuing and we now have window frames in both arches. Hopefully the glazier will put glass in soon.

I've had to stop Postcrossing the two months I was travelling but I'm back in the swing of sending and receiving postcards again. Here is one of the cards I received. I love turtles and tortoises, so I really love this card. 

Today was the first sunny and warm day after a cold spell. I'm sitting in the shade of the vine.  Our neighbour pruned it (the vine) properly at the right time of year and the right position of the moon etc. Look at the abundance of baby grapes growing!
