A Postcard a Day - Saturday 21 Nov 2015 - Belarus

Good Morning! 
It's weekend! Whoopee!
Are you going to do something exciting? Or is it a normal workday for you? (I used to be a nurse, so weekends didn't mean anything to me. And if i were working I knew that I'd be working with a skeleton staff.i.e. we'd be much busier).

Here is one of the cards I received this week from Belarus:

I like it very much. It is a map of the country with the relevant national costumes. 

I already had another card from the same series:

The stamp on the first card is very colourful:

In reality the red is bright red. This photo doesn't do it justice. The ladybird on the stamp is also embossed. 

The ladybird is called the Psyllobora vigintiduopunctata.  This 22-spot ladybird is different to other ladybirds because it eats mildew, unlike all other ladybirds who eat aphids. 

The other card I got this week from Belarus is this one:

Grain pudding. I have no idea what grain berries are so it will be difficult to make this at home. 

Again I already had a card from the same series with a potato pancakes recipe on it (which I shared with you a while ago).  

The stamp is very special. I can't read Belarussian but I reckon it is a painting by Marc Chagall.

OK, I've just looked it up and it is from a series of stamps about artists of the Paris school that were born in Belarus. They are Ossip Zadkine (the lake), Ossip Lubich (landscape with red roof), Chaim Soutine (Eva) and Marc Chagall (two lovers):

In case you wondered what the letters N and M stand for,  N is for surface mail abroad, and M is for air mail abroad.

A Postcard a Day - Sunday 8 Nov 2015 Minsk

Good Morning! Good Sunday!

The card I'm going to show you today arrived a few years ago and I haven't been able to figure out which church it is because I can't read Cyrillic letters.

 It's a beautiful sketch of a church in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. I'm going to art classes myself and I wish I could draw like that.

I finally sat down and tried to translate what it says. First I tried with the Russian alphabet, but got stuck. Then I googled Belarussian alphabet and managed to translate it: Church of Simon and Helena.
It is a Roman Catholic church also called the Red Church, possibly because of its colour.

This is the stamp:

The animal on the stamp is the European Pine Marten (Martes martes), which is a carnivorous animal about the size of a domestic cat. They belong to the family of the Mustelids, which also includes mink, otter, badger, wolverine and weasel. Their habitat is wooded areas as they are the only mustelids with retractable claws. This enables them to climb and run on tree branches. They are most active at night.

That's my biology lesson for today! lol!

A Postcard a Day - Books and Belarusian cartoons-13 July 2015

Hello peeps,
Happy Monday!

Today another card with books on it. (Postcards with books on them are on my wish list in my profile on Postcrossing.) So it was really nice of Lena to send me this card. Lena lives in Belarus in the city of Minsk.
The artist of the painting is  printed on the back but it is in Russian letters so I can't read it.

To me the books look a bit like old Reader's Digest collections of abridged books that people used to buy or got sent. Don't you think so?

The stamp is especially gorgeous. 

It is a stamp from 2013 and is from a series of cartoons. This one is from an animated cartoon called Pilipka, which won several international awards. It's based on a fairy tale about a little boy Pilipka and a big bad witch Baba Yaga.

Lena wishes me a life full of miracles and happiness! Well with the Lord Jesus Christ in  my life I certainly have that!

A postcard a day - my first post

Hi, I'm joining Bridget in Australia. She has started A Postcard A Day blog (http://bridgetlarsen.blogspot.com.es/2015/07/pcad-postcard-day-11-maps-rr-agnes-in.html).
And as I receive many postcards (because I do Postcrossing https://www.postcrossing.com/), I thought I'd join.

My postcard for today is also a map card. I love maps and have put in my profile that I do, so people often send me one. 

This is a card from Belarus, a country that I had to look up, as it was part of the Soviet Union when I went to school.

The pictures are all about architecture. 
The picture in the middle is: Residential and cultural complex of the Radziwill Family in Nesvizh.
The top picture is: St Barbara's church in Vitebsk.
The picture on the right: The town hall of Mahilyou.
Bottom right:Palace and park ensemble in Homel.
Bottom left: Kosava Castle.
Left:Mir Castle complex.

I looks like this last castle is also on the stamps....
