A Postcard a Day - Tuesday 12 April 2016 - T for Alhambra and more

Hello lovely friends,

Thank you for visiting me again. Today I'm linking up with Elizabeth at Altered Booklover for T for Tuesday, where we all post something together with a drink related item or subject. My drink related things will come up further down this page.

First my postcard. It is one that I have sent recently:
It is an image of the Alhambra, the beautiful palace of the last Sultan of Granada (13th century). It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is stunningly beautiful. We live about an hour's drive from Granada city, which is of course the capital of our province and we have to go to Granada for administrative reasons sometimes but that is no hardship. It is a lovely city. Not too big. The old center is all walkable.

Lets not forget the drink related item. Here is a funny about making tea:

If you have been following my blog, you will know that we are building a newbuild next to the old cavehouse. The top flat is nearly finished and we have moved in just over a week ago. I have showed you the kitchen already but as my DH is now going to decorate the office/craftroom, my computer needed to come into the living area and I needed a desk. We phoned the carpenter and he came and made me a lovely little desk at the end of the kitchen, all in the same wood. I love it:
I'm pleased a punch as they say.

I'm also near the teapot (under the tea cozy) and the cups. Ahah! Here is the drink related bit!

Our cups are proper 'buckets'. I like my mugs big. The clock that you can see hanging up is a real find. It is a clock, yes, but it is also an electronic scales! So handy. In Europe recipes use weight (grams and kilos) not cups. So to bake a cake I need scales. In stead of rattling around in a drawer, my scales are now hanging within reach. So handy! I love it!

I'll leave you with an image and quote that I really liked:

Have a wonderful Tuesday and a great week,
Blessings,
Lisca

WOYWW 336, autumn leaves and olive trees (and not much else)

Hi folks,

Here I am again on Whats On Your Workdesk Wednesday, the blog hop where we all show our desk to inspire others with what we are creating. Julia at Stamping Ground hosts this peep fest.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that there is again not much going on on my desk. But I will show you what there is...
The Flow magazine is still there (there is so much to read and see in it). Autumn has arrived here as well and I have collected a few leaves. Under the leaves is my tablet in its purple cover and under that is a large exercise book that i use as a diary. On top of my laptop is an orange headset that I have recently bought.
At the sewing end of my desk are two pairs of trousers I have to shorten for my DH. They have been there a week (Bowing my head in shame...)
I have bought this cheap sewing machine as I want to start making things again. I bought this little book with patterns to make bags.

Now all I have to do is find some material. That is not easy. They sell material in the market but it is for dresses or curtains, and sold by the meter. None of your pretty cotton pieces that I see some of you using. But I will keep looking.

Yesterday we went out for a meal as we do every Tuesday. We saw this in the car park:
They are olive trees. Healthy olive trees never get cut down if they are no longer wanted. They are sold. Mature olive trees are worth a lot of money. I didn't find out where these were heading. I would have liked to know.

To finish, I found this on the internet. You might read the left side first and you might or might not agree with that. But then read it from left to right and it is not at all what you think:

Bye for now.
I will try and visit as many of you as I can.
Have a great week you'all,

Blessings,
Lisca

A Postcard a Day - Sunday 20 September 2015 Speyer Cathedral and the origin of the word 'Protestant'

Good morning friends, It's Sunday again.

I've had my breakfast (scrambled egg on toast, a Sunday treat) and in an hour we'll be heading to church.

I'm showing you a postcard from Germany, which was one of the first Postcrossing cards I received five years ago.
It shows the Romanesque Speyer Cathedral. It was sent to me by  Georg in Neustadt. He knew I liked UNESCO World heritage Sites and this cathedral is a world heritage site.

Georg also gives me some interesting info on the cathedral and the city of Spyer.
The last paragraph explains where the word 'Protestant' comes from. Interesting.... I didn't know that.

The stamp features Johannes Calvin.
Johannes (John) Calvin (1509-1564)was an influential French theologian and pastor during the Protestant Reformation. He was a principal figure in the development of the system of Christian theology later called Calvinism.

Here are two quotes by Calvin:

"However many blessings we expect from God, His infinite liberality will always exceed all our wishes and our thoughts."
"There is not one blade of grass, there is no color in this world that is not intended to make us rejoice."

That's it from me today. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I'll see you tomorrow with MondayMap.

Blessings,

Lisca

A Postcard a Day 4 September 2015 Friday Smiles: actress, pussies and Labradorables

Good Morning! And hello Friday Smilers!

Have you all had a good week? I have had a lovely week. We went away in our campervan(RV) for two nights to the same camping we went to recently. We liked it so much we went back. All we did was relax. We read, puzzled, chatted, had nice meals, did Zentangles, played Rummicub, had a drink, collected pine cones, talked to the couple in the next van and generally had a good time.

Look at the size of the pine cones! (We collect them to light the fire with).
Now for my smiley postcard... no, the lady in question is certainly not smiling. But just looking at that sour face makes me smile:
Of course it's Margaret Rutherford! She was such an amazing actress! I like her as Miss Marple. Do any of you remember her? Or is it just me being old?

The card was sent to me recently by Birgit from Germany through Postcrossing. She must have seen in my profile that I love Black and white cards... Thank you Birgit.

If that didn't make you smile then these cuties might. I call them 'Labradorable':

I'll leave you with some words of wisdom:

That's it from me this Friday.

Have a good weekend all of you,

Blessings,

Lisca

A Postcard a Day - 3 September 2015 Coco Chanel

Good Morning! Good Thursday!

This week I received many postcards again. In my Postcrossing profile I write that I love black and white photos. So often people oblige and this week I got a lovely card with Coco Chanel on it.
Sent to me by Sabine from Germany. She lives and works in Oberhausen. Apart from Postcrossing she also likes writing to penpals. Thank you Sabine!

The photo of miss Chanel was taken in 1937 by photographer John Phillips.

Wikipedia writes this about her:

Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971)[1] was a French fashion designer and founder of the Chanel brand. Along with Paul Poiret, Chanel was credited with liberating women from the constraints of the "corseted silhouette" and popularizing a sportive, casual chic as the feminine standard of style in the post-World War I era. A prolific fashion creator, Chanel's influence extended beyond couture clothing. Her design aesthetic was realised in jewellery, handbags, and fragrance. Her signature scent, Chanel No. 5, has become an iconic product. She is the only fashion designer listed on Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.[2]

Chanel was known for her lifelong determination, ambition, and energy which she applied to her professional and social life.
Some of her quotes:
'Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.'

'Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.'

'There is a time for work and a time for love. That leaves no other time.'

'Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity.'

That's it from me.

See you tomorrow when i link up with Friday Smiles and will give you something to smile about.

Blessings,

Lisca
