A Postcard a Day - Monday 28 Sept 2015 Map Monday Saskatchewan

Good Morning! Good Monday!

Have you all had a good weekend? I hope so. We have been entertaining our daughter and grandson, who have come over from England for 5 days. They have specifically come over to see the lunar eclipse and the ‘blood’ moon through our telescope. The weather forecast was not good, so they (my husband too) have travelled to a mountain top which is higher than 2000m hoping that they will be above the clouds. They haven’t come back as I write this. So I’ll let you know….

Now for my card: it’s Monday so I have a map card to show you.
It is the map of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, sent to me by Krista.
I don’t know much about Saskatchewan other than that it is land locked and sits in the ‘middle’ of Canada.
I did google it though and I found out that their national flower is the lily (Lilium Philadelphicum) and that the province had been inhabited for thousands of years by various indigenous groups (Nowadays called ‘first nations’).
It was first explored by Europeans in 1690 and settled in 1774. It has prairie land in the south and rocks, forests and lakes in the north. The capital is Regina but the largest city is Saskatoon.

Now for the stamps:
The small stamp on the left shows HM Queen Elizabeth, as she still officially reigns over Canada.(Please someone correct me if I’m wrong in this). The large stamp on the right celebrates 200 years since the birth of Sir John A Macdonald. He was the first president of Canada and originally came from Scotland.

Krista (who sent me the card back in March) tells me she is a crafter too and she has decorated the card with washi tapes, a cup cake and two turtle stickers (I love turtles). So thank you Krista. I like it very much.

That's it from me today. See you tomorrow when I link up with 'T for Tuesday'.

Blessings,
Lisca

A Postcard a day- 24 August 2015 Map-Monday Canada

Good Morning and Good Monday!

Have you had a good weekend?

Here in Spain it is still very hot and we are enjoying the good weather and the lush produce. Our neighbor Serafino has a plot of land and he regularly brings us produce. These days it is cucumbers (the little short Spanish ones) and plums. I had so many plums at some stage that I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to make jam because we don't eat much jam, but I made plum sauce.

I found a recipe for oriental plum sauce and stoned and chopped up all the plums. When it was all cooked and reduced I ended up with three jars of lovely sauce.
But most of you are here to see the postcards, so here is today's card from my collection:
It's Canada of course. Sent to me by Dale who lives in Toronto and is a retired letter carrier/postman. Having worked for the post office he knows where to get all the beautiful stamps. This card has 13 stamps on it!
The eleven small ones are all with images of beneficial insects on them with their Latin names.
Here are their names in English:
1c Convergent lady beetle
2c Monarch caterpillar
3c Golden-eyed Lacewing
4c Paper wasp
5c Northern bumblebee
6c Assassin bug
7c Large milkweed bug
8c Margined leatherwing
9c Dogbane beetle
10c Canada darner (dragonfly)
25c Cecropia moth

The one with the snake is beautiful and is raised/embossed. It was issued in 2013 and celebrated the Chinese Year of the Snake.

The largest stamp features binoculars and is a tribute to the Canadian Rangers.

The Canadian Rangers are a sub-component of the Canadian Armed Forces reserve that provide a  military presence in Canada's sparsely settled northern, coastal and isolated areas. A primary role of this part-time force is to conduct surveillance or sovereignty patrols as required.

Someone has scribbled penmarks over the stamps. (It wasn't me!)
That is a shame.
Dale, the Postcrosser who sent this card to me, has a birthday soon on the 1st of September. So Happy Birthday Dale and thank you again for sending this great card with stunning stamps.(Even though it was a while ago)

Have a good Monday all of you and CU tmorrow.

Blessings,
Lisca

A Postcard a Day - 17 August 2015 Map Monday Quebec

Good morning!

I hope you had a good weekend.
Map Monday means I show you a map card. This one is from Quebec in Canada. I have never been to that part of Canada but looking at the map it must be beautiful.
The motto of Quebec region is 'I remember'.

The stamps are fantastic:
Both large stamps are from the International Year of the Forest.
This is the whole sheet:

The smaller one on the left is called Flag over Historic Mills - Keremeos Grist Mill

That's it from me today.
Tomorrow is another day....

God bless
Lisca

A Postcard a day - 17 July 2015 - Books....

Hi folks,

Books, books, books, books..... I love books! And I have mentioned that in my profile for Postcrossing so that people sending me a card know that I would appreciate any card about books.

Here are two cards that I like very much:

This one is from Canada and was sent by Shelley, a primary school teacher. She decorated the card with washi tape and put a typical Canadian stamp on it: a moose.

The second one I want to show you is similar, and was sent to me from the Netherlands. As I come from the Netherlands myself, the sender Marijn, who works as a journalist in Utrecht, could write in Dutch.

The stamps are stunning!

The one on the right is about mushrooms. The two middle ones are 'children's stamps'. People pay an added value which goes to charity. These stamps are from 2004 but obviously still valid, as this card was only sent to me months ago. I don't know anything about the stamp on the left, but it looks like the normal 30 euro cent stamp.

I hope you enjoyed these dusty old books!

I'll show you another card tomorrow,

CU then,

Lisca
