A postcard A Day - Tuesday 23 July 2019 - T for...

Good morning lovely ladies! It's T-Time! I mean time for the T-Party hosted by Elizabeth and Bluebeard. You can join the party by posting an image of a beverage (or a reference to a beverage). This is mine, as I didn't take any pictures this week.

It was the 6th anniversary of the T-Party and we are sending each other ATCs. I have been having fun making a lovely ATC for Sharon.  I posted it yesterday and is winging its way to
Wichita as we speak.  I forgot to take a picture of it so I hope Sharon will do that when she receives it, so that we can all see it.

My first postcard is a weird one. But someone had asked for maps of undergrounds from different cities. And here is one from Kopenhagen:
I got this card when we were there last time. It is one of those advert cards. This one advertised the new to open lines in Kopenhagen. A new North-South line.

My second card is also a request. The recipient likes vintage travel posters. This one is from Biarritz which is in France, on the border of Spain and France, on the Mediterranean.
I bought this card in a little souvenir shop when we were in that area. (I never went to the golf course as we are not golfers).
The golf course still exists. I found some images on the internet:

My week has been focused on dental health. I have had the first of some dental work done, and one of my painkillers gave me a bad reaction. I'm fine now. Have to go back on Thursday to have my stitches removed and  to move on the the next bit of work to be done. (Sigh)
Every day we get woken up early by heavy machinery passing through our (very small) lane. The council are repairing the drain system. Brilliant. In the year of the elections, lots of work gets done. It's a shame we only have local elections once every 4 years!
Then to add insult to injury, one of my neighbours up the road is doing some major restructuring. It involves a lot of cement. As the big cement mixers can't come through our lane, they go to a different road on a lower level and pump the cement through long pipes to where it needs to go. We had a machine like that when we were building. It's fascinating to watch.
One of my friends in Italy, Marcella (a friend from way back) has sent me some old photos. And I have been reminiscing. Here is a photo of me (on the right standing up) with the rest of the staff of the Maternity/labour ward. This must have been in the seventies.

I don't know if the consultant is still alive. The girl kneeling in the middle was the cleaner and bedpan lady. the other two kneeling are girls that looked after the babies in the baby room. (no babies by the bed in those days. It actually gave the mother time to recuperate after the birth). The girl next to me is also a nurse, an enrolled nurse, which was a lower qualified nurse. I'm not sure if that type of qualification still exists. Anyway, when I was in Italy recently, I met up with her again. That was great.
Then there was the nun. She was not officially qualified, but she ran the show. Of course she had 40 years experience and she was fair, so she was respected.

That is it from me today.
Happy T-Day to all!
Hugs,
Lisca

  2. interesting postcards and so different from each other too. It must be quite noisy with so much going on and I understand because there is construction of two homes going on across the street from us- yes- stones, diggers, then cement pouring, and now LOTS of sawing, hammering, and nail guns. Oh well- at least it's during the day only:) What a great photo of you to have- and then to get to meet up with the one nurse again- that is so wonderful! Happy T day!

  4. Lovely postcards, it's fun to be able to fulfill requests. Sounds like there's a lot going on in your corner of the world. Glad the dental treatment can continue, hope you will not have so much pain next time. Love the coffee with text. The photo of you and your colleagues from back when is great, and lovely that you managed to meet up with one of them. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  5. Those postcards are great. I liked them both. The vintage one of the golf course was impressive for its graphics. They are lovely.

I hope your bout with the pain killers is better now. Gosh, it sounds like there is more work to be done, too.

How impressive is that concrete machine. I suspect they are needed for your area, but it's rather shocking to see it for a person who lives on such flat land like myself.

What an amazing photo from hospital days in the past. Isn't it amazing how caps are gone, those hot panty hose are gone, and the skirts have been replaced by slacks. In ways, this is definitely a good thing.

Enjoyed your daily drink postcard and learning about your week, too. Thanks for sharing your coffee with us for T this Tuesday, dear Lisca.

  7. Lovely postcards, I love seeing old advertising posters.
I hope your painkiller medication is working okay now and that the work still to be done will go well.
The photo from the hospital looked good, how the uniforms have changed in all our countries, hopefully for the better and much cooler and easier to wear.
    Happy T day wishes.

  8. Hope the tooth is feeling better ASAP Lisca. And I can relate to the heavy machinery. They are building a house across the street from me and they start work before 6 in the morning. I guess to beat the heat but that is too early for sure. Fun old photo. Now in the US nurses only wear scrubs and are much more casual looking than how they used to look (which was not all that different from your photo). And I like the subway map postcard. Have a super T day, or what is left to it. hugs-Erika

  9. The postcard participants have very specific types they like. I wouldn't be able to find most of what's asked for lol, but yours are spot-on :)

My husband is in the process of lining up some dental work, so I can sympathize with your issues. I hope it's successfully behind you soon.

Construction is fascinating to watch but _noisy_! I used to love taking the kids to see the big equipment when I'd hear something major was going on (or up, or down lol).

    Happy T Tuesday!

  10. I was never a very good postcrossing member I guess. I didn't heed requests...I sent what I felt at the time. :) I enjoyed seeing the old photo and your description.
Sorry I am late in stopping by...a migraine had me out of commission.
    Happy T day!

  13. I just saw your comment, Lisca. A teen is anyone between 13 and 19. A tween is 10 through 12. A child is under 10. Hope that helps. At least that's how they are classified in the states.

  15. You seem to have the perfect postcard for any occasion, Lisca. You must have quite a collection.

A dentist's office is one of my least favorite places. Actually it's not even on my list of favorites. I hope you're finished soon and all healed up.

Our government services are like that too! Not much gets done until the year before the next election. The other strange thing (to me from a different system) is that, after any election where the winning party changes, everyone in a managerial position from the last administration loses their jobs! So changeovers are a disaster, where no one in authority (well almost no one) knows a thing about the job they're doing.

Amazing, how - no matter the terrain, construction people can come up with ways to succeed. I'm thinking more about the days before heavy equipment, when it was all done by hand.

Fun to see a photo of you so long ago.

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx
