A Postcard a Day - Tuesday 3 Nov 2015 T for Venta Vicario

Good Morning! Good Tuesday!

Elizabeth often shares her lunch outing with us at T for Tuesday. So I'd like to do that too this week.

Every Tuesday, we eat out at a restaurant called the Venta Vicario.

The staff know we come every week and keep our favorite table free. We usually get there at 2 in the afternoon. We order our wine and we get a free tapa (snack) to go with it. Last week it was Russian Salad:
My first course was salmorejo, a cold soup typical of the south of Spain.

My main course is always grilled lamb as that is expensive to buy in the shops, so we rarely eat it at home. I'm not too keen on chips (fries) so they give me tomatoes instead.
We normally sit in the bar part of the restaurant. There is a dining room of course but we prefer to sit in the front. Behind me is a display cabinet where they sell souvenirs and trinkets. It is also the only place where one can buy black dollies. (am I allowed to say that?)
When my friend Paula came to visit, (she is afro-Caribbean), she bought three for her grand children.
There is also a part where they display the bread they sell:
And being Spain, of course they sell their famous hams:
Those black things on the left are drinking pouches. People drink from them by holding them upside down above their head and squeezing a spurt of water (or wine) into the mouth. Because nobody touches the spout, the pouch can be handed from one to the other and everyone can have a drink.

What did I have for dessert, you may ask...
This is called 'flan de cafe', which is a moussy sort of dessert. All their desserts are home made and this is my favorite.

After we had our coffees, we always get a 'chipito', that is a complimentary small glass of liquor.

The photos I have shared here were taken last Tuesday. I'm already looking forward to going today.

Come and join us on this blog hop with anything drink related to share. Just go to Elizabeth's blog.

That's it from me.
Have a great week all,
Blessings,
Lisca

How nice to have your own table waiting for you each week at that special place.
I can see why you look forward to feasting there each week and with fun shopping as well. Interesting about the drinking pouches...makes good sense.
Your dessert looks YUMMY too Lisca!
Happy T Day oxo

Thank you for sharing that with us Lisca. How fascinating! I don't know why black dollies are so difficult to find... even here in the United States i never see them. You would think there would be quite the market for them... Happy Happy Tday ! Hugs! deb

Hello and Happy T Day! How fun to see your photos from a lunch out, great job on them! Everything looks and sounds lovely and yummy! My husband and I have a favorite place to eat out and get the same seat and waiter if we can, he knows just what we like. Thanks for sharing and have a good week.

First, I want to say my mind must have been elsewhere when I commented on yesterday's post. I was so caught up in AEDM, I completely forgot about Dia de los Muertos, which is how All Saints Day is celebrated in the west. It took me visiting Karla before the lightbulb came on and I realized what was going on.

Now to your T post. I have made flan several times. I adore it, but it is so labor intensive and the ingredients are expensive. My recipe calls for 8 eggs. Of course, I start by caramelizing the bottom of the pan, then go from there. I think I'd rather buy it than make it, but it never tastes as good. I'm sure yours does, though, because this truly looks authentic.

It must feel special to have a reserved table at a favorite restaurant. And I've heard of those drinking pouches, but for some reason, I thought they originated in Africa. I learn so much from joining you each week!

Thanks for sharing your outing with us (and the flan, of course) for T this Tuesday.

I also am a Flan lover and it is quite available here. Your lamb sounds delicious, it is mainly served in Basque restaurants here......always so good too.

Thanks for showing us this restaurant. It looks great. It seems like so much more than just a restaurant--also a souvenir shop, a community meeting place, and a lot of fun. It's nice that they give you tomatoes instead of fries. Happy T Day!
