A Postcard A Day - Friday 28 Dec 2018 - Friday Smiles

Good morning lovely people! Have you had a good Christmas? was it fun or was it stressful? I hope not the latter. We have had a very quiet Christmas here in Rotterdam.

My hubby (who is British) cooked a traditional dinner.
But mum doesn't like turkey , so we had a pork roast.
I had made a     christmas cake at the beginning of November and had 'fed' it brandy on a regular basis. I brought it over in my suit case. (excuse the apron. I always wear an apron. Do people still wear aprons? Do you?)
So I made a lovely butter icing,

iced the cake and put some decorations on it:
Here we are, mum and me. Belated happy Christmas everyone!

If you are still with me I will show you some postcards. This one very obviously comes from Russia with some  food on it.

It was drawn by an artist called Margarita Tkachenko and is entitled
Russian Cuisine. And the stamps are beautiful.
The next card comes from Germany, from a guy called Michael who lives near Cologne. The postcard is a vintage image.
It depicts a mine in the Harz mountains. The stamp is the well known Peanuts stamp. I love it!

I will be joining Annie for  Friday Smiles at A Stitch In Time, if she is back that is, and Virginia at Rocking Your Week Friday. And of course I will post a few funnies at the end.

Have a great weekend and I hope I will see you all in the New Year!
Hugs,
Lisca

  1. Sounds like you had a wonderful holiday with your mother. That cake looks fabulous.

I never knew there was a "thing" about brussels sprouts, but after Julia started talking about having them for Christmas a few years ago, I also started adding them to my Christmas dinner. No pork for me, thank you.

Those are wonderful postcards. The one from Russia was fabulously drawn and colored. The one from Germany reminded me of the horrible mines men were forced to work in who were working on the missile project. Many men died in those mines. I hope that was not the case for this postcard.

LOVED the funnies. That last one reminds me of every cat I've ever known (grin)!

Have a wonderful holiday, enjoy your time away, enjoy your mother, and have a great but safe, New Year. Have a super weekend, too.

so glad you had a nice holiday with your mother. My Grandma that lived on her farm and my Mom always wore aprons-I never have but I should at times. Loved your postcards and stamps this week

  3. I love the photo of you and your Mom, Lisca. That is a treasure. It looks like a wonderful holiday. Quiet isn't a bad thing. And your cake is beautiful. Christmas cake hasn't really caught on her in the US, but I would like to make one. Maybe next year I will do that rather than pie or something fancier. And love the car with the snow face! Think I need to copy that one sometime. Happy almost 2019. Enjoy the rest of the year. Hugs-Erika

  5. Hello sweetie, I've been meaning to comment all week, I read it the other day on my tablet and before I know it we are at Friday again - whoops! Your Christmas dinner looks fabulous, hubby obviously did an awesome job. Your Christmas cake looks lovely and so festive with its covering. I don't always wear an apron, but I do occasionally, hubby definitely enjoys wearing his if I'm honest. I also have a pattern for vintage ones which I have yet to utilise - but might give them a whirl this year!

Loving the funnies, I hope you had a fabulous New Year

    Much love
