A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 3-1-2017 - T for street art, potato salad and crystal

Happy New Year everyone! It is now 2017! I remember when I was young(er) I used to look forward to the year 2000. That seemed so far away then. As a nurse we would have to check the use-by dates on medicine boxes regularly and I remember being so excited when the first 2000 appeared on the use-by date! Now I'm not looking forward to any date. I'm just grateful for every year.

I'm sorry I forgot 2nd on the 2nd. I had prepared it last week (a photo from each month) but we went away yesterday, and of course that stuff is on my desktop computer. We will be home later today, but that's too late. As I said...sorry, sorry sorry.

Now for my postcard. Again, because we are not home, it is an old one:
Maybe you know I love all sorts of doors, well this is the card that got me interested in windows too. These are Russian traditional windows. Aren't they beautiful?

That out of the way, I can show you the photos for the T-Gang. Every Tuesday I link up with Elizabeth at Altered Book Lover to share something with a drink in it. This time it is definitely an alcoholic drink: The bottle of bubbly on New Year's Eve.

I had bought a bottle oc Cava Brut, as real Champagne is expensive (and wasted on me if truth be told). I got my posh crystal glasses out. They only make an appearance once a year as I am afraid I'll break them. They are very fine crystal, hand blown (or should that be mouth blown) and hand decorated.  And of course they have that tinkling sound when you touch them. I love them.
I wanted to show you one of my decorations in the tree. I have three of those glass mushroom ornaments. They were my grandmothers. My mum handed them down to me. They sit on a metal clip (bottom right). I treasure those.

Then there's the New Year's Eve potato salad:
I make one every year, as my mother did before me. I add beetroot to the potatoes, hence the pink colour. And with some left over beetroot I cut out the numbers to form the year. It also has hard boiled eggs in it and ghurkins and pulled pork left over from Christmas. I season it and bind it all together with mayonnaise. It's so nice, I really should make it more often....

I don't know about you, but I love Pinterest. I have many pages. My largest collection is 'Street art and Graffitti'. On Friday I shared some street art by chalk artist David Zinn. He creates cute creatures on the pavement. Today I will share a few more:

Don't you wish you could do that in your yard... just sweep the leaves under the cement!

That's it from me today.

I wish everyone a very happy and above all healthy New Year!

Happy T-Day,

Hugs,

Lisca

That is a really cool potato salad Lisca. I love how you added the 2017 to it. I have some antique crystal that was my great aunts and I never use it-it is packed away until someday, if ever, I have a nice place to put it. And thanks for showing some more of those David Zinn pieces. I just love them! Happy T day. Hugs-erika

I've never seen Russian traditional windows before, they are so ornate and beautiful, thanks for sharing this postcard today :-). You certainly celebrated the New Year in style, I love a glass (or two ... lol) of bubbly and your champagne flutes are gorgeous. The potato salad sounds delicious, I would love to try some - yum! The glass mushroom ornaments are adorable and look so delicate, I can see why you treasure them and are even more special as they were handed down to you by your mum. The street art by chalk artist David Zinn is such fun and really made me smile! Wishing you a Happy T Day! J :-)

Would never have guessed those gorgeous windows being Russian- I swear they could be anywhere in Europe! We actually rang in the new year with Cava too:) Your potato salad looks yummy-and I love beets.Would love a glass mushroom ornament like yours. I was coaxed into Pinterest but really gave up just because it would eat away at too much of my time:) It is a great place tho.Happy New Year and happy T day too!

These are fantastic Russian windows. I remember seeing some in the travel magazines I collect, but nothing as elegant as these.

You are the second person today who has used beetroot, but it was for dyeing fabrics not preparing a salad.

Your tree and glasses are beautiful, and I can just hear the sound of the glasses as you gently touch them to your fingers.

Thanks for sharing your champaign and art with us for T this Tuesday.

Happy New Year! I had ginger ale lol. I'm the only one at my house who drinks alcohol, so the bubbly is too much for just me. I can get the tiny bottles of ginger ale, and that's bubbly enough for me.

I _love_ the street art. What a delight!

Happy T Tuesday :)

What a great postcard, I had to spend time with each window. I've not tried a dish like you made but I like all the ingredients. We had roasted beets this week. The street art is very clever indeed.

Fun post Lisca.
Mr Magpie and I spent the day on New Year's Day raking and tidying the yard. I always enjoy the street art photos when I see them going around on Facebook too.
Windows and doors always intrigue me. Those Russian windows are beautiful.
Beets are such a yummy food and making a dish passed down through the ages is extra special.
We were kidding that maybe in the year 2020 we will all "see" more clearly.
Happy first T Day of 2017!

What a fun post, Lisca :D

Your potato salad sounds like a whole meal in a bowl. And yummy!

Happy T Day and New Year. Hugs, Eileen

Your crystal glasses are beautiful. We have some like that too. They only come out a couple of times a year because we're afraid of breaking them. But they sure make a special occasion even moreso.

Love, love, love the whimsical street art.

omg! love the whole post so I don't know where to start! Potato salad looks yummy and I bet it tasted awesome! I have some Kosta Boda table service for 12 that I inherited from my Mother in law. I rarely use it cause it is so delicate and both my kids say they don't want to inherit it! Love the mushrooms! I am a big street art fan and have attended a couple festivals in Dallas and Kansas City years ago before it became so popular. Happy New Year!
