A Postcard A Day - Tuesday - 23 January 2023 - T for books, admirals and oat cookies

 Hello lovely ladies,

The weather is awful, cold and miserable, so lets talk books. It's the sort of weather to curl up by the stove and read (or even stay in bed and read!). Carola Bartz wrote about her books and it inspired me to tell you how I record the books I read and what I have been reading lately.

But first let me show you a postcard:

It is a cute postcard from Russia which reads: "Happy New Year". But the reason I chose this card today is the stamps. (And the pretty Christmas envelope).

A closer look:

The stamp on the right is part of the envelope. The middle stamp celebrates 125 years of radio.
Radio is a form of information wireless transmission where information carrier is radio waves freely distributed in space. In May 7, 1895, at a meeting of the Russian Physicochemical Society in St. Petersburg, Russian scientist and inventor, physicist and electrical engineer Alexander S. Popov delivered a comprehensive report and demonstrated the operation of the world's first radio receiver.

The stamp provides an image of a radio set of 1895 from the collection of the A.S. Popov Central Museum of Communications.

The stamp on the left celebrates the life of F.F. Ushakov:

Admiral Fyodor F. Ushakov, 275th Birth Anniversary

Fyodor Fyodorovich Ushakov (24 February  1745 – 14 October 1817) was an 18th century Russian naval commander and admiral. He is notable for winning every engagement he participated in as the Admiral of the Russian fleet.

He was born in Burnakovo not far from Rybinsk in the Yaroslav province (about 120 km north of Moscow).
There are many monuments of him. At the bust of this admiral, a commemoration was held in Rybinsk.
In Rybinsk, on February 24, 2020, the 275th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Navy operator,  Admiral F.F. Ushakov, was celebrated.
At the monument of the admiral there was a solemn event: the performance of officials, laying of flowers to the monument of F.F. Ushakov.

Now, as promised, something about books. Carola Bartz wrote about some of the books she read and she asked if anyone keeps a record of what they read. Yes, I do! I have a little book called Book Journal.

It's a little book that I have been using since 2004, where I write what I have been reading. There is an alphabetical index, like in the telephone ledgers of old.
The pages allocated to each letter have long been filled so I have put stickers on the pages where I have continued. On the page I write the author, the title and the year I read it. And then I write a little bit about the plot, so I will recognize it in the future. I also give it stars out of five. I give it points on how much I enjoyed the book. Not necessarily on how well it is written.
Next week I hope to write about a few really good books I have read recently.

But now, as it is the T-Party hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard, I have a drink for you.
It is my coffee and two oat cookies made by my friend Patricia. I was invited there on Friday evening to eat pizza, and she gave me some cookies to take home. Here is a rather unclear photo (sorry) of me and Patricia that evening.

I am holding a glass of wine. So that is two drinks for the T-Party!

That is all from me today.
Happy T-Day
Keep smiling!
Hugs
Lisca

  3. Peanut´s cousins from Russia, how cool!
Yay on the radio-stamp! And that we can differ Russians from Putin.

Cool idea to keep track of your books like that! I used to just collect them in blog posts (and gave up eventually and sadly).

    Nice to see you happy!
And yes. I cannot comment on some blogs, either, not even with name/url and my google account does not work with some either or just after a while. Tried FF/MS Edge...nope.
Also with yours I have to click "SIGN IN WITH GOOGLE" first, and yes, that button yells like that ;-)
    Anyhows, Happy T-Day and hugs

  5. Hi Lisca, Love your book journal. I think it is fun to look back on all the books one has read through the years. I used to write them all down but now I keep tract on a website called "Goodreads." It makes it easier for me and I love that I can read reviews on there as well.
Your cookies look yummy and that is wonderful that you got out with a friend to have pizza.
I did get your comment this week and one of the ones you left last week. Signing in again is such a pain. I can never remember my passwords.
Loved seeing the postcard and the beautiful stamps this week.
To answer your question, the recipe swap that I participated in is snail mail. I have to make 2 recipe cards per month and send them to two different people from the swap.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  6. I love your book journal! I see that you also read "The Dry" and gave it five stars - I thought it was well written and the plot was fascinating. It was my Aussie friend who recommended it. Looking at your book journal I decided to read "From Sand and Ash", it sounds like a good read.
To answer your question from last week, yes, I did see the "baby twist" coming in "The Storyteller of Casablanca". I thought there was something off with the baby, it seemd to be so peaceful and quiet.
I look forward to when you write about a few really good books.

  7. Keeping a book journal looks like a great idea that I never implemented. I do write blog posts about most of the books I read, so I can find out what I thought of a given book, but not really see an organized list.

    You are impressive!

  8. I don't read nearly as much as I used to, but I do keep track. Those cookies look delicious.

I have to click on the "sign in to Google" button before I can comment on your blog, but it hasn't stopped me from commenting once I've don't that. Yet. You never know, though...

  9. Great assortment of postcards and photos. I love that journal. (Some blogspot blogs are doing something similar to me, but it gives me a choice about logging in to my Google account (which I'm actually already logged in as). When I click that button, it figures out I'm already logged in, without requiring me to do anything else, and then I can leave a comment.)

  10. I always enjoy your postcards and stamps with their little bits of history and art. Your journal looks like a fun way to keep track of what you have read. I'll skip coffee in favor of tea, but I wouldn't say no to those cookies. Nice photo of you and your friend, Patricia. Happy T Day

  12. Hello Lisca.. What a pretty postcard! Nice to see you and your friend.. Now i wish i had kept track of all the books i've read over the years.. i honestly haven't gotten a hold of a GOOD book in quite some time.. I'm reading David Lynn Goleman.. 'Legacy' at the moment.. I enjoy that type of book but the man is awful 'wordy'.. and long winded.. and i'm finding i don't have the patience for that like i used to have.. I have quite a few of his books so i'd like to add this one to my collection so i will just plug along through it.. I've saved alot of the books i've read over the years.. I get them as hard covers... I think i'am going to start rereading them.. instead of searching for more new.. Why else am i keeping them? Happy T day ! Hugs! deb

  13. I am sorry you are having problems commenting on my blog. Lisca, I don't know what to do about it. I know Chris has problems too, but I am able to find her comments and publish them. I love that postcard and stamps. They are amazing. Happy

  14. Yes, I am quite late, dear Lisca. I lost my internet again due to high winds. I love that postcard because it works for Chinese New Year, too, since there are two cute bunnies.

The number of real books I have read in the past 10 years wouldn't fill a single page in your book journal. I like how you document the books you have read and rate them, too.

Looks like you have Patricia to thank for both drinks you share for us this week. Those cookies look good, but so does your coffee. You can keep the wine. Thanks for sharing your postcard, your book journal, and your coffee, cookies, and wine with us for T this week, dear Lisca.

  15. Hi Lisca! So fun to see your book journal. I also keep a record of what I am reading since 2005 but not in a book, I have it online. I see you read The Dry by Jane Harper - I love her! She has a few more books out since then and a new one due out next month! So sorry, RL got in the way, and I am terribly late. Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx
