A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 9 August 2022 - T for summer holidays

 Hello lovely ladies,

We have safely returned from Portugal, where we stayed with family in a lovely villa on the south coast. My postcards are in the theme of summer holidays:

This summery card comes from the south of France. It is a resort on the Mediterranean coast with beaches and marinas.

The stamp is a normal French stamp featuring Marianne.

Marianne  has been the national personification of the French Republic since the French Revolution, as a personification of liberty, equality, fraternity and reason, as well as a portrayal of the Goddess of Liberty.

My second postcard comes from the USA and features beauty queens from the 40s and 50s:
The person that sent it to me is a history teacher from Philadelphia. Her husband is a firefighter.

The stamp is a very nice floral one. I have received this one before but I particularly like this pink flower.

Let me tell you about Portugal. When driving from where we live in Spain to the western part of the Algarve, one has to count on 6 hours driving. We stopped every two hours for a stretch of the legs and some refreshments. Finally the bridge, which is the border, came into sight:
At the other side the road becomes a toll road and foreign cars (we have a Spanish car) must introduce their credit card as the toll gets electronically charged (with number plate recognition).  The road is beautiful and after about an hour we arrived at our destination. The family had food and drinks ready. And here we are at the table in the pool area having a great time:

You can tell by my cardigan that it is a lot cooler there then where we live. I had to borrow a cardigan as I hadn't brought anything with me. Portugal is on the Atlantic ocean and there is a lot of cool wind.
They had cooked a large bream on the BBQ. It was delicious.
Another day we went to a small local restaurant:

We sat at the table that is visible through the door. We actually booked a table as we were 7 people (including 3 children).
The food was delicious. I chose a squid kebab:

As today is T for Tuesday, the party hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard, I must show some drinks or drink related items. In the above photo hubby's glas of non-alcoholic beer is visible. By the way he ordered an omelet.

We're not really beach lovers but the children do love the beach so one morning we went to a non-touristy beach that is known to the locals (and a few hippies). It was stunning:
There were very people there and the children enjoyed themselves. Us oldies sat and watched the fun.

I hope that you all have been able to do something summery this time of year.
I'll sign off for now. More photos in my Friday blog post.
Happy T-Day all!
Hugs,
Lisca

  2. Hi Lisca, it sounds like you had a great time in Portugal. You are luck to be able to travel so much. The postcards and stamps are gorgeous. That beach is wonderful, I would enjo it there, too, so much nicer than the crowded, touristy places. Happy T Day, take care, hugs, Valerie

  4. It looks like a wonderful trip, Lisca. Seeing family must have been wonderful, and that is a gorgeous beach. I'm not a big sit on the beach person anymore, but that one looks like it would have been worth some time. It is so empty! And I didn't know that the French Revolution woman symbol actually has a name. I like her even better now that she does. I'm glad you made it home safe and sound. That bridge looks very similar to one in Boston. Take care and have a great T day Lisca. hugs-Erika

  7. How wonderful that you spent time with family in Portugal. It's nice to see Graham is happy and doing well, too.

Both postcards are wonderful. Nice to see the stamps. I could use a global forever stamp when I return your napkins because it would save me money since I bought them long before the price increase. However, I will share stamps that are no longer in production, that I think you will enjoy more.

Your kebob looks good, but I am not a squid lover. However, Graham's omelet looks delicious. Nice to see the drinks you had, too.

Thanks for sharing your time in Portugal, the beach, your postcards, the food, and Graham's beer with us for T this Tuesday, dear Lisca.

  8. Hi Lisca. It looks like you had a lovely time in Portugal! That is great that you were able to get away with family. Hubby and I aren't much for the beach either because we burn. But your view was breathtaking.
Your meal looks delicious. I spied shrimp on your kebab but I have never tried squid.
Loved the postcards, especially the US beauty queens. I have never seen that photo.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  10. How nice that you could see family in Portugal and it looks like you had a good time with them. The beach looks very lovely indeed - such white sand and no one seems to be there. I'm not a beach person either (as in sitting on the beach), but I love long walks on the beach.

Your husband has the most infectious smile, I noticed at the end of reading your post I was smiling back. You two are a delight. Thanks for sharing your vacation, postcards, stamps and life. Happy T-day a bit late. Hugz

  14. I keep thinking you live in Portugal so then I wondered why you were saying you had returned from Portugal lol. I blame the unusual hot weather affecting my brain haha. I love the beach most of all because the ocean is there! So sorry, RL got in the way, and I am terribly late. Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx
