A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 11 January 2022 - T for cup cakes, canvas and wasps

 Hello lovely ladies,

I'm going to be very naughty and present you with a postcard of a cup cake now that everyone is trying to lose weight! It's only a paper cup cake so you won't put on weight with this one.

It comes from Switzerland. The sender is Myriam and she lives near Fribourg at the language barrier French/German:
Fribourg is the capital of the Swiss canton of Fribourg and district of La Sarine. Located on both sides of the river Saane/Sarine, on the Swiss Plateau, it is is a major economic, administrative and educational centre on the cultural border between German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland. Its Old City, one of the best-maintained in Switzerland, sits on a small rocky hill above the valley of the Sarine. In 2018, it had a population of 38,365.

The stamps are interesting. The one on the right is a piece of canvas. It's not visible on the photo, but it is just a piece of fabric printed with Helvetia on it.
It is called: A Blank Canvas:
Canvas is the classic backcloth for paintings and, as such, has come to symbolize art in general. Because it’s blank, it represents art not yet created – perhaps due to a lack of funding. Swiss Post has been promoting and collecting contemporary art since 1924. The collection that it has put together comprises around 400 works and a nationwide portfolio of art in architecture pieces.
Switzerland has never had a stamp made purely of canvas before. That’s why a 'making-of film' was also produced for this very special stamp. (Have a look at the link).

The second stamp features the railway station of Fleurier:

Fleurier is a village situated between Lake Neuchatel and the French border. It is famous for its  watchmaking .
This is the station in real life:

Today is Elizabeth and Bluebeard's T-Party, when we say hello to all the other lovely ladies, and bring along a beverage.
My beverages are more than one usually.
This first one is my coffee. I suppose that could pass as a cappuccino and there is a slice of cake. We always have a slice of cake as I love to bake.
The second beverage is a glass of red wine that I had with a piece of quiche the other day. The quiche had just come out of the oven so it is still a bit 'puffed'.

Now that Three Kings has been and gone, I have taken down all the decorations. The house looks ever so bare now.
When I put away my Christmas cards I  realized I didn't show anyone my cards. Let's do that right now:

This one you will have seen already on other blog posts. It is the beautiful card from Kathy (in Ozark). It is stamped beautifully in gold.
I particularly liked the sentiment:

This one is precious, as it is a drawing made by one of our grandchildren and made into a card:

This one came from my mum. No, she didn't make this herself, but her next door neighbor makes these.

I think it's gorgeous. Next time I visit mum, I'll go and see this lady and see how she does this.

The olive harvest is over now. The two processing plants in our village are still working day and night but that will stop sometime this week as the last stragglers have brought in their olives. It does mean that there are 'mountains' of pips, which get discarded after the process. Most people in our village have biomass burners. We have a stove that burns pips, crushed almond shells, pellets etc. My husband went to buy pips together with our friends:
To get the best price, you have to bring your own bags and fill them yourself. Depending on the size of the bag, we pay 2 or 3 euros. Our friends' daughter had great fun, as did the puppy (who is the same colour as the pips, and he's probably in the picture somewhere, but I can't spot him.)

Before I go, I wanted to show you what I found on a plant leaf the other day:

It is a small paper wasp's nest.
Paper wasps are vespid wasps that gather fibers from dead wood and plant stems, which they mix with saliva, and use to construct nests made of gray or brown papery material

Here is one from the internet so you can see the size compared to the wasps:

That is all from me tonight. I write this on Monday night and it is nearly midnight. So, time to post this and go to bed.
Stay safe,
Keep smiling,
Hugs,
Lisca

Your quiche looks delicious! I wish I could eat this but I can no longer eat eggs and hubby doesn't like quiche.
Love that cupcake and the interesting stamps.
The Christmas cards you received are beautiful! I too would love to see how that one was made.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate

Your quiche looks gorgeous. I love when they puff up and try to serve them right out of the oven so my guests (when I used to have guests) could see it too. I'm eager for socializing to be safe again.

Wow, first you tempt me with a cupcake, then a cake you baked. To add a bit of savory, you then turned to quiche, which looks great while it's puffy.

Nice that Graham got out to get the pips. You will have lots of fuel this winter for next to nothing. I wish my winter fuel bill was that low (grin).

Loved seeing the stamps and the explanation of them. I also loved the lovely cards you received. But your coffee and wine were the best for T this Tuesday, dear Lisca. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like I can just reach in and grab that cupcake! But your quiche is what I really would like- yum!
Wonderful cards you received.
And oh my, what memories the paper wasps brought back- yikes!! One had gotten in my shirt by the collar, wandered to my arm and kept stinging me- yes, multiple times!! I ended up with a bad reaction and an infection and was on medications. I am VERY aware of them now!
Have a great week, and happy T day!

I think that is such an interesting stamp made out of canvas. Very creative of Switzerland. And I have to say both your cake and your quiche look delicious. I love to bake too so it is lots of fun to see what others are making. And that is so interesting about your biomass heater and burning these pips. I think its a great way to recycle and get some good use of the leftovers. And before I sign off, nice Christmas cards too. I hope you are having a wonderful January and have a super rest of your week, as well as a great T day too. Hugs-Erika

Your quiche looks super delicious - my mouth is watering. I have never tried to make quiche, perhaps I should. However, I doubt it will turn out like yours.

Quiche, cake, wine, and coffee... yummy! It all looks delicious :) It must be convenient to have fuel so readily available. We get paper wasps. I avoid them.

Happy T Tuesday!

Thanks for sharing your foods and drinks Lisca, I can enjoy them vicariously :) Very interesting about the olive pips, so the local growers sell them to the plant who then does what with them? Sells them fresh or are they put into jars? What kind of olives? I am a big olive fan, can you tell lol Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx

What a interesting post! And, yes, I am counting calories, and you have made me drool for the cupcake, quiche and that coffee, too! I couldn't find the dog in the photo, either. This was interesting about how you heat your home biomass burners. Who would have thought they used the pips?
Happy T Day!

A few years ago I would have been longing for a cup cake after seeing this - strangely I now think it looks pretty but realise that I think I would find it too sweet. Does this mean I must be ill?(grin) I love seeing your cake and quiche. I must remember to photograph my cards - we have been out far too much lately! It's great that you can get fuel at such a good price. The wasps nest looks so delicate. Happy T Day, Chrisx
