A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 28 March - T for European history, campervan and Riesling

Hello lovely people, How are you all? Thank you for visiting me today.

We've been away for a few days and I have some photos to show you as well as my usual postcard from some faraway country.

I received several cards this week. Which one shall I share with you?

This card comes from Russia, from someone called Zoya who lives in St Petersburg. The image is a caricature of European politics in 1899. I wish I could remember my European history. The image is supposed to be funny. She used some really beautiful stamps which unfortunately, I forgot to scan...

So, last week my husband asked what i wanted to do for my birthday. I suggested we go away, so we did. We went to an area we hadn't been to before, and found a campervan parking

in a village called Canjayar, in the Almerian Alpujarras.

Here is the village in the distance. It was very pretty and it had all sorts of info on the village history displayed on tiles on the walls of the streets:

There was a public washing facility:
Can you imagine the natter and the gossip!

I'm so thankful for washing machines after seeing this!

My lovely hubby spoils me and on the first day he cooked a fantastic "Full English Breakfast" for lunch. (I can't face this first thing in the morning).

There's bacon and eggs, baked beans and whole tomatoes. Of course with toasted bread.

We do this only when we are on holiday and it is a real treat! In this case we had a bottle of dry Riesling set aside for the occasion.

I suppose this qualifies me for the T-Party hosted by Elizabeth and Bluebeard. Please join us if you can with a post that has something drink related in it. (doesn't have to be tea or coffee)

I'm going to leave it at that and next week I will post more photos.

Happy T-Day all,

  1. What fun exploring. That breakfast...err...lunch looks yummy! I'm not sure I've ever had a dry riesling...or made it was and I just didn't know. I don't venture too far out of my usual bottles of wine to know. :)
    Happy T day!

  2. what a wonderful birthday-and to have lunch cooked up just for you-very special Happy belated birthday.
I have never seen a washing facility like that before-that was very interesting thanks
    Kathy Happy T Day

  3. What a nice place to go for your birthday. I hope it was wonderful. (I love seeing all these places you get to go. Lucky you!) I can see why you couldn't eat that all first thing in the morning-what a huge amount of food-but it sure looks yummy.

  4. Oh my , now that hubby is a keeper for sure-kudos to him!! Happy birthday to you Lisca- sounds like you had a wonderful celebration!

  5. Looks like you had a really nice memorable getaway for your birthday Lisa!
And what a great guy you have there.
    Making me thirsty ;-)
Hope you are still celebrating your beautiful life ❤
Those early washing machines are quite something and so many of them.
I must confess I often enjoy postage stamps as much as postcards. They can be mini works of art. Interesting postcard...thanks for sharing.
Happy T Day to you oxo

  6. Once again, happy belated birthday. I stopped by Friday, so hope you saw. Your meal looks wonderful and very healthy, too. Much better that what I had to eat today.

I really enjoyed your trip and got a laugh at the washing machines you shared. Not something I would ever use, but fun to see what used to be.

I was hoping the post card enlarged, but it didn't so I had trouble seeing it. I DID recognize Italy and America, but that was all. So glad you shared it, though.

Thanks for sharing your birthday "breakfast" (thanks to your awesome husband) and your trip to Canjayar with us for T this Tuesday. Again, happy belated birthday.

    1. Yes, Thank you so much for my birthday message. It moves me that you specially thought of it. Very much appreciated! Thanks.

  7. I found a way to enlarge your page, and I was wrong. What I thought was America was actually England. Had I read the part about Europe, I would have not been embarrassed, as I am now!

    1. I was just thinking of how to enlarge it when I read your second comment. Don't be embarrassed, it's very difficult to see. I wish I had more info on it. I have been looking everywhere and can't find anything. I guess I have to dive into my history books....

  8. What a fun postcard you got. The place you stayed at sounds good, and glad you were able to enjoy a birthday breakfast for lunch. I know what you mean about such a huge breakfast early in the day. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  9. Terrific postcard and a great place to eat an full English Breakfast I reckon. I once went into those mountains on a flat green bowling holiday. It seemed a strange place to build somewhere so British but it was very enjoyable

Have a very Happy T Day

    Love Chrissie xx

  10. Its a beautiful setting to enjoy your full English Birthday breakfast, your husband looked like he enjoys cooking as well.
Super photos, but its hard to think of washing like that these days when we are so spoilt with modern machines.
    Happy T day.
    Yvonne xx

  11. Wow! The views look amazing! Love seeing the old wash house! We sometimes choose an all day breakfast option when we eat out at lunchtime - not an everyday thing for sure!!! Happy T Day! Chrisx

  12. What a wonderful Birthday getaway, the little village is beautiful! I loved looking at the wall tiles and those old washing stones, I bet there was such a buzz of activity and it must have been a great place to catch up with friends :-) . Your hubby is so thoughful cooking you an english breakfast for lunch, and that is one huge plate full ... lol! Lovely postcard from Russia too :-) . So pleased you had a fun time on your Birthday travels - perfect! Happy T Day! J :-)

  13. happy belated birthday, lisca! so awesome you were spoilt with the cooking of your husband!
this room with the washing installations really Looks interesting... yes, all the chatter These walls may have heard;)
great postcard, too! you must have quite a collection meanwhile.
happy t-day and have a great week!

  14. Happy Birthday a little late. Your lunch looks great. I like a man who cooks. Imagine doing your wash in that facility. I suppose it was quite the thing when it was built though. Another great postcard. I don't know a thing about the history but I like the graphics.

  15. I never would have thought of having tomatoes and beans for breakfast Lisca! But the bacon and eggs sound and LOOK yummy!!! Happy happy T day and a belated happy Birthday!! Hugs! deb

  16. A birthday trip! Looks like y'all had a great outing. I agree about breakfast. That meal is much better later in the day. He's a good chef to have around ;)

    Happy T Tuesday

  17. That full English breakfast does look very filling! I think I'm with you in preferring it for lunch. Looks like a fun trip and picturesque sights! happy T day!

  18. I'm so glad you've enjoyed your birthday treat of going away, the landscape looks amazing. I remember troughs like this in my aunty's home, when I was a kid. Good old cement troughs made GREAT watering places for our pigs and cows, too!!! Never seen a communal one. LOVING the full English brekky. Can't go past it, in my opinion!!!

  19. What a sweet man you married, Lisca! And he cooks too? In a campervan yet. Boy, that looks delicous. The countryside and village are beautiful. Do you have anything left on your bucket list? You guys are so adventurous. I love following you on the road.

    Belated happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
