A Postcard a Day - 7 March 2016 - T for Tuesday, T for geishas and spirals

Good Morning!

I'm having computer problems! Every hour or so my computer goes completely dead. Black screen. Then I have to reboot which takes longer than usual as it hadn't been shut down properly. I have a new computer on order but I haven't received it yet. Oh what a pain!

Moan over. Here is my postcard:
As you can see it is from Japan. The text reads:"A Kyoto maiko, a geisha's assistant, performs a traditional bell dance at a shrine festival". She looks rather sad I think...

The stamps are beautiful. I always appreciate it when people make an effort to put nice stamps on a card. I myself go out of my way to find/order special stamps. Nowadays the postoffice doesn't have stamps anymore. The mail gets stamped by a machine. But at the philately department, One can order or buy nice stamps.

I'm on a diet. Healthy eating, no wine, no sugar, no coffee. I was 66 kg and today I am 62.4! So I have lost quite a bit. I have treated myself to a Spiralizer (or the German version of it):
I love playing with it and i have also bought two books at the same time.
This was my supper last night. Good ol' sardines on toast.

As it has a cup of tea in it I qualify for T for Tuesday. Elizabeth hosts T for Tuesday, where everyone shares something with a drink in it at Altered Booklover.

My kitchen is practically finished (I showed you a photo last week). This is what it looks like now:
The worktop is going to be granite but it won't be ready until the 15th. I can't wait. When that is in place we can move in. Whooppee!

That's it from me this Tuesday. Have a great week all of you,

Blessings,
Lisca

O.k. I could do similar things with my multi programm kitchen machine -- but I do it nearly never I admit!
You inspired me with your fishy toast -looks yummie - maybe with some tuna?
Congrats on the weight lost - great --
I am also making an effort on loosing 4 kilos more( I managed 8 kilos in 2014) ..but since nearly a whole year I just go 2 kilos up and 2 kilos down...o.k I am pleased that I hold the weight .. but would be so fine to loose the last 4 kilos also!
This kitchen will be a dream in the end...luxury with the granit plate and super large!
    Wishing a happy T-Day!

  4. Congratulations on the weightloss. I know how difficult it can be to change habits... Sardines on toast now you remind me of my Father and Grandmother... his mother.. He loved sardines.. and my Grandmother could make a sandwich out of anything.. even leftover mashed potatoes...

A Spiralizer is on my wish list!! :) Your kitchen looks fabulous!! :) Hmmmm.. we had granite in the CA house and we not too happy with it... You have to be so careful with it even if it is sealed... It likes to soak up stains...that you cannot get out... If you've had it before then you know......Happy happy Tday! hugs! deb

  5. gorgeous post card! We are fortunate to have several post offices nearby and when I know I am sending something to someone who would reuse the stamps for art I ask to pick them out rather than be produced and printed by a machine. Congrats on the weight loss! I have a small spiralizer which I use but I also use my potato peeler to make veggie ribbons. Your kitchen would be my dream kitchen-so beautiful. Happy T day!

  6. I can empathize with your computer woes. I don't know what it is about your blog, but every time I visit, my computer freezes, I get a blank-like screen and "Mozilla Firefox not responding." I have to reboot and it DOES take forever to get back online. Sadly, a new computer is not in my budget at the moment.

I have no idea what a Spiralizer is, but it appears to be a machine that makes veggies look like spaghetti. I hope you enjoy it. Glad you have lost weight. I could live with everything else, but I couldn't live without my coffee.

Your postcard is lovely. In the states, we can buy stamps at the PO. I never let them meter my mail because I tell them the stamps are used for art. The big problem I have is when a postal employee delivers an unstamped envelope and uses a magic marker to place a big X on each stamp. I get furious when that happens.

Your kitchen is gorgeous. I know you will LOVE it when it is finished.

You asked what a gyro is. First, it is pronounced YEE row. It is a vertical spit of stacked cone shaped meat slices, usually a combination of lamb and beef, cooked in a special oven. The meat is first cut into thin, flat slices, which are then stacked on the spit and seasoned. As the cone cooks and rotates, lower parts are basted with the juices from the upper parts. When cooked, the meat is cut from the spit and served with pita bread, and fresh tomatoes and lettuce.

Byblos has their own oven and spit and they showed me one time what it looks like. Bet I surprised you that this vegetarian knew what it was (grin).

Thanks for sharing your postcard, new machine, fab diet, and tea with us for T this Tuesday. Which will come first, the new granite top or your computer? I bet you can't wait for either.

  7. Our post office sells stamps in a decent variety, but I hardly ever send anything by mail. I've never heard of a Spiralizer, so I'm learning something new already today. Thx! :) Happy T Tuesday.

p.s. I enjoy postage stamps so much and always feel a bit disappointed when I receive something from far away with machine postage on it.

  13. Lisca,

Saw your message on Chris's blog. FIREFOX is my web browser. Yours may be Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari, or Opera. It's the program that gets you to the internet from your computer and lets you view pages online. Mozilla is the company that makes Firefox. I hope that explains it. And yes, my computer freezes every time I visit you for some reason. It didn't freeze this time, because I came directly to this post and not your blog in general. But remember, my computer is very old and is trying to stay alive a few more months.

  14. The kitchen is looking wonderful and like you have lots of space. We red'd a Spiralizer as a gift about a year ago. We used it quite a bit at first but then it went to the back of the cupboard and hasn't surfaced again. Maybe I'll get it out this summer when DH has home grown veggies to cut up.

  17. What a fabulous post, I love sardines and cucumber combined - my favourite sandwich as a child - I remember taking some to a school party and my friends being very dismissive of them - until they tried them!

The kitchen is looking amazing - I bet you can't wait for those worktops - or that computer come to that!

We too have recently bought a spiralizer as we are also trying to reduce the waistline, we've become quite accustomed to courgetti with our ragu or bolognese. I've also bought the inspiralized book but haven't managed to make anything from it yet - you'll have to let us know if you make anything from it that you really enjoy - might spur me on to try some recipes out of it!
