A Postcard A Day - Friday 9 Aufust 2019 - Friday Smiles

Hello lovely ladies, it's Friday again, and I'm here to show you some highlights of my week. Life is good and there have been many smiles.

Of course postcards in my mailbox always make me smile. This card comes from Tanya in Belarus:

It shows a drawing of a beautiful building but I have not been able to find out what building it is. I can recognize the name Minsk in the bottom right corner, but other than that I am clueless.
The stamp is gorgeous too. It is one of those triangular ones:
It shows a fragment of the traditional Slutsk sash, that noblemen wore.

Here is a blog that I found about these sashes. Have a look, it is very interesting.

The second card is a cutie. Although the kitten looks a bit scared.

It was sent to me by Christina who lives in northeastern Germany.

Here in our village the Feria has started. Fortunately it is at the other side of the village, a good ten minute walk from here, so we don't have any noise or bother from revelers in the night.
It started with the autos locos, in which people career down the High Street in a home made vehicle.

Here they are all waiting before the start:
By the way, the people in the skirts are all blokes!
This is a fake police van.
Even a tank!
The building with the arches is our Ayuntamiento, the town hall.
And this little church is the hermitage of San Sebastián built in the XVII century.
This guy looks like he just came out of prison!
And they're off!
Over the ramp.
I was standing safely behind some pretty large straw bales.
But this guy from the television crew was on the unsafe side of the bales, filming the vehicles coming over the ramp.
Our mayoress had told me that the tv crew would be in town all day and they wanted to (also) interview some foreigners that live in the village. Would I be willing. Yes, I was willing, but in the end they didn't talk to me. I admit I was relieved.

I have done a lot more this week as it's all happening, but I will leave that for another post. This one is long enough as it is.

As usual there will be some funnies at the end.

And now I will be of to visit Annie at A Stitch In Time and Virginia at Rocking Your Week Friday. See you there!

Have a great weekend,
Hugs,
Lisca
The guy I photographed in our village probably got his jump suit from this bus!

  1. I had no idea what a Feria was and the internet wasn't exactly helpful, either. Seems it was a day of the week (not Sunday) where no feast was celebrated. Enjoyed the guys in their get ups, though. Had to laugh at some of their antics.

Lovely postcards this week. I bet you were over the moon with the tortoise.

Cute funnies this week. Loved the little Buck and the blueberries.

Somehow, the bus at WalMart may not have been the best choice for a funny this week, after the incredible mass shooting at a WalMart in El Paso, Texas is still raw in our American hearts. No disrespect. You live a world away and may not have known.

Have a super Friday and great weekend, too, dear Lisca.

  3. Hi Lisca, loving the postcards and the stamp especially but then you know by now how much I love the stamps. The Vehicles are a bit like something my husband watches on TV. I think it's called the Red Bull Soapbox Race and I believe they do it in lots of countries. I love the funnies this week too they are brilliant. Have a great weekend. Hugs, Angela xXx

  4. The Feria looks tremendous fun, especially with all the blokes dressed in skirts. It’s the sort of event we would go to. Except this week we’ve been locked in prison haha. All will be revealed over on my blog.
    Enjoy your week Lisca

  5. You get such cool postcards Lisca. I always enjoy seeing them. And nice "auto" race photos. It looks like a fun event, although I hope they all have brakes if they are going downhill and don't have to use their feet! Happy weekend.

  6. The cars look like such fun. I can imagine the preparation for this is as fun as the event itself :)

  7. I am quite happy that our feria is behind us for this year. It is a bit too hot to enjoy it right now.
They have a similar 'hand made vehicle' race just along the coast at Villaricos called "Whacky races" to raise money for the Asprodalba, a local day centre for young adults with disabilities.
Loved the funnies, especially the dalmation. I hope you survive the rest of the festivities. Kate x

  8. Wanted to let you know that the planner you saw was RO's NOT MINE. Mine all have tea cups stamped for every Tuesday. I hope RO does treat herself on the 27th. That's why I put the disclaimer to not pin because the photo belonged to RO.

And thanks for removing the WalMart bus funny. Sometime later it might be appropriate, but 22 people died from a man who went into WalMart to kill "Mexicans," which he did. He was fueled by the rhetoric of our president.

  11. The postcards are lovely, the soapbox race something else, I don't think I'd be brave enough if I'm honest, although their 'cars' are brilliant!

Loving the funnies as always, I hope you are having a good week
