A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 1 May 2018 - T for squirrels, coffee and a patio

Good Morning lovely peeps, How are you all today? It's Tuesday again and we are in time for the T-party organized by Elizabeth and Bluebeard at Altered Book Lover. Please join us with a beverage of your choice. Mine is a coffee and it will feature further on in this post but first i would like to show you some more photos from a couple of weeks ago when Dear Daughter came to stay. We visited Castril and did the 'gorge' walk. On our walk we saw this little chappie:
Did you see him? No? OK I'll zoom in a bit:

Yep, it's a red squirrel. In fact there were two. They were playing and chasing each other up and down several trees.

They were so fast, it was difficult to capture them on photo. Finally one of them rested for a few seconds. Here he is lying on a branch, like a mini lion.

We enjoyed seeing these squirrels as they were (indigenous) red squirrels which in the UK are almost extict. (Pushed out by the grey squirrel).

After the walk we climbed up out of the valley and entered the village at the bottom of this street (behind hubby and daughter):

We were all gasping for a drink so we stopped at a bar in the village.

The chairs were not out as the weather is still cold. We came in and saw these men sitting at the table. We asked permission to take pictures so you can see what it looks like.
The bar:
And here are hubby and daughter drinking their 'café con leche' (coffee with milk) and mine is a 'café cortado' (an espresso with a dash of milk).

Now for my postcard.
It is one I picked up in Córdoba, where I was on Sunday. It is an ad-card. It advertises this cute little place. It is called El Patio De Maria. Most traditional houses in Andalucia (Southern Spain) have small inner courtyards (patios) that are sheltered private places where people grow flowers in pots on the wall and have climbing plants crawling up.  I had an hour to kill and was just walking along when I saw this sign:
It looked very inviting indeed, so I popped in and had a drink. No, I did not have a flamenquín. I didn't even know what that was until now. This is a 'flamenquín':

It's made with cooked ham and Serano ham and eggs. I have more photos of this delightful patio but I will save that for another time.

Happy T-Day everyone!
Hugs,
Lisca

  1. Hi Lisca, I enjoyed your photos of the squirrel but he does not look anything like ours-he has a little lion type face, very sweet looking and I love his color
I enjoyed your postcard-and I think that's pretty neat to go into a nice tavern for coffee.

    Happy T Day Hugs Kathy

  2. WOW, that red squirrel is impressive. England has gray squirrels and ours are all brown here (at least in central US). When s/he stopped running around, it did look like a lion. So cute.

Your daughter and husband look like they are enjoying their milk coffee. I'll take mine with what I've learned is called simple cream in Europe. No milk for me. I want the fat, the cream, and the added pounds ( grin).

Oh I adore that ad postcard. Nice, too. Thanks for sharing your red squirrel at the gorge, your postcard, your trip to Córdoba, and your espresso. I look forward to more adventures in Córdoba, too.

  4. Nice to see the photos of the red squirrel- they are hard to get when they move so fast! The places you visited look great, I especially like Maria's courtyard, and the flamenquin looks very good. Eating outside is always nice, except for when the wasps come....Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  5. Looks like a fun visit Lisca. I love seeing the squirrel and I think I would have enjoyed that gorge walk also. I would try a flamequin as it looks good to eat, especially after a hike. :) Hope you're having a fantastic T day. Hugs-Erika

  8. Fascinating, Lisca. I'd never seen a red squirrel. They're really cute - despite the fact that they're still rodents ;-)

I'd never heaard of a flamenquín either, but it sounds tasty. The Patio de Maria is indeed precioso.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

  9. Such a cutie - he looks similar to see we saw in Austria a few years ago! Here in the UK the Red Squirrel is making a comeback in certain areas - Cumbria, Lancashire and Scotland for sure, but I think they are holding their own well against the Greys in other areas where they have be re-introduced! We were lucky to eat outside in Paris but not so here...I hope it warms up soon! Happy T day! Chrisx

  10. I loved the photos of the squirrels playing. We have some Grey squirrels in our local wood, sadly no red ones, but I think we have a few protected areas for them and they are starting to get established. The other photos were all super, that cafe did look interesting.
    Belated T day wishes.

  11. Another beautiful hike. The village looks so quaint and picturesque. I love the white walls, wrought iron work and contrasting greenery. I would certainly want to stop at that cafe in the postcard. Lovely!
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  12. I notice you're on Google+. I've set mine up but don't know what to do with it now. I thought it might be an alternative to FB, but it isn't nearly so well-used.

I've seen red squirrels on vacation, but the gray squirrel is the only one we see here. The gorge walk looks like a perfect way to spend some time in nature. You got some great photos! That bar looks like a comfortable setting for a meal and a drink.

    I missed T Tuesday completely, but Happy Whatever-Day-You're-Observing :)
