A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 8 March 2022 - T for Women,

 Hello lovely ladies,

Did you know that today is International Women's Day? I chose my postcard for today because it has a stamp with a woman on it.

The postcard photo is entitled, not surprisingly, The Kiss and is by photographer Marco Nobre. I've not been able to find any info about him I'm afraid.
Then there was this cute sticker on the card:

But I was more interested in the stamp:

Hildegard Caroline Sophie Wegscheider , née Ziegler (born September 2, 1871 in Berlin ; † April 4, 1953 in Berlin) was a German teacher, school reformer, SPD politician and women's rights activist.

The pastor's daughter Hildegard Ziegler attended the secondary school for girls in Liegnitz and passed the teacher's exam after a year at the boarding school in Lausanne . She studied in Zurich from 1893 , because she was admitted there without a high school diploma. At the same time, with a special permit, she passed her Abitur at the Royal Catholic High School in Hedingen near Sigmaringen in 1895. This made her the first woman in the Kingdom of Prussia to successfully complete this exam. Not admitted in Berlin, she received her doctorate in Halle in August 1897 and was one of the first women to earn a doctorate from a German university . She was a lecturer at the Humboldt Academy in Berlin and a teacher at high school courses.  In 1899 she married the doctor Max Wegscheider (1866-1928) and had two sons with him. the marriage was divorced in 1906. In 1900 she founded the first private school with grammar school classes for girls in Charlottenburg near Berlin. After Wegscheider had passed the state examination for high school teachers in Kiel, she was a senior teacher in Bonn from 1908 .

Wegscheider later returned to teaching in Berlin from 1920 to 1933 as a senior school inspector. When the National Socialists came to power in 1933, she was removed from all offices. She then earned her living as a private tutor. At the same time, she was involved in a small group of members of the opposition in the resistance against the Nazi regime . This circle held tightly together until 1939. Even after that, Wegscheider helped the politically persecuted and Jews to go into hiding.

In March 1949, Wegscheider took an active part in International Women's Day.

Do they celebrate Women's Day in your country?  It gets celebrated a lot in Italy where I used to live in the seventies and eighties. Here is Spain there are many things organized in our little village.

On Saturday there was a sports day, and on Sunday there was a meal at a restaurant. I didn't participate with neither of these. Today there is workshop "Connect your body with the moon". Apart from the fact that I will be spending the day at the hospital with my husband, I wouldn't be interested in that as it is too 'New Agey'.
But on Saturday there is a coach trip to the Zenete (Not that far from here):
We will visit ten villages and look at the art and graffiti that have to do with gender equality. That sounds interesting. So I have put my name down for that.
The price includes the coach, guide, entry fees and meal.
I'll show you the photos later.

On Sunday I will be doing a 12 km walk around the village. I hope it will have stopped raining by then.
So lots going on in the next few days. (Never a dull moment here)

These last few days I have been busy trying to cook something appetizing for my husband who is having a no-residue diet in preparation of a colonoscopy. He is allowed white rice or pasta, but without anything (no butter or cheese), so it's not easy. I cooked chicken breast with pasta and broth.

The procedure is this afternoon.

Also today is the T-Party organized by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My ticket for today is some the above wine. Let me see if I can find any more:

More wine on this very bad photo of us and our friends:

Some good news: My mum has finally been able to go home. Here she is as soon as she got home and all her things were put away. She told my cousin, now I'm going to sit down and have a glass of wine!

Here in Andalucia we are having rain! Long awaited rain.(We've had a drought of nearly a year). This was the rain gauge yesterday morning:

Spring really has arrived. My roses have started to bud:

We are eating fresh strawberries:

And the tulips have started to flower (although they are still very short).

And surprise, surprise, my amaryllis is going to flower again too!

That is all from me today.

Wishing you all a very happy Women's Day and a very happy T-Day!

Take care!
Hugs,
Lisca

I love the spirit of your mom!!!
I hope your husband's colonoscopy works out well and he gets another 10 years until the next one. Here, we usually have to drink a prep-solution the day before which is quite awful. Things seem to be done differently in Spain and it does sound better to me.

Now I know why your Mom has lived such a long life. I also hope your husband's colonoscopy goes well and you get a positive/good report. I knew it was women's day tomorrow but in my area there are no celebrations. We actually have school elections tomorrow. We vote on whether teacher's get raises and any special school questions like whether to add an addition to a building or to add a new program. Enjoy your Saturday trip too. Have a great T day and week ahead. Hugs-Erika

Good news about your mum! Loved that photo postcard. And, like you, I think that is a great stamp. Her life was so interesting. Thanks for doing all the research and telling us about her. Women who accomplished so much back in those early years were really something, weren't they? Happy T Day.

Excited about your Mom - and to see a picture of her. I love that she wanted wine first too - I know I would love her. I love the postcard and stamps. Very interesting about Women's Day - I didn't know anything about it. Your walking tour sounds fabulous - you do the most fun things, Lisca. Hoping your hubby's procedure goes well. It it almost time for ours and I dread them....

Happy T-day and hugz

My sincere apologies for this universal message, but my electricity has been off from about 4:25 Monday afternoon until shortly after 7:40 this morning. A transformer blew in my neighborhood. I heard the boom and felt the aftershock. It was a bitterly cold, windy night, so once my hands get warm and I get hot coffee and food in me, and I’ve had a chance to sleep (sleep was impossible in the cold), I’ll be by to visit properly. In the meantime, please accept my apology for not leaving a proper comment.

That sounds like it'd be about 7 1/2 miles, which I'd find quite a challenge. I should walk more and build up my endurance. I trust that colonoscopy goes well. My last one was much easier than the one before. I think the prep procedures have improved over time. Congrats to your mom for getting to go back home. Your flowers give me hope for Spring. So pretty!

Happy T Tuesday
