A Postcard A Day - Friday 13 December 2019 - Friday Smiles

Hello lovely ladies,
It's Friday again and time for the smiles of our week.
I always smile when I find postcards in my mailbox. We have had problems with our delivery as our postman has retired. In my neighbourhood there are no street names. My address is Barrio San Marcos, which means Saint Mark's neighbourhood. We get mail carriers that work for one or two months, and they are not here long enough to learn all the people and where they live. I think the answer is a PO box.

But I did receive this cute card from China. It was sent by someone from Guangzhou, a city with 14 million (!) inhabitants.
The stamps are great. I did not recognise the fruit on the left and I messaged the sender. I turns out to be a mango.

The second card is rather special as it is a home made card. It comes from the Netherlands and was written in Dutch by Carla. Carla does art journaling as well as card making.
Again the stamps are really lovely. The chap on the left is a soccer player called Arjen Robben, who retired this year. Wikipedia writes: Arjen Robben is a Dutch former footballer who played as a winger. He is known for his dribbling skills, speed, crossing ability and his accurate left foot long-range shots from the right wing, Robben was regarded as one of the best players in the world in his prime.
The stamp at the bottom is about the relationship between the Netherlands and Malta.

Do you know what is guaranteed to put a smile on my face? The tinkling of the bells of the sheep and goats as they pass close to our house.
Our first tiny olive harvest (two trees) made me smile too. We have about 30 trees and they will be professionally pruned after the holidays. So hopefully we shall have a proper harvest next year.
The seeds that my hubby sowed a few weeks ago have already germinated.
This was a sunset last week.
I don't have any Christmas decorations in the house as we are going away, but I have these fragrant candles. They smell of red fruit and spices.
I managed to make some Christmas cards (see previous blog) and I went to the post office,
Which is on the municipal square, next to the Ayuntamiento (town hall) which is all lit up.
Here I am posting the cards.
I am now able to get Amazon Prime video on my iPad and I have started to watch Downton Abbey. I have always wanted to see that. I am on season 1, episode 4. (And I love it!)
On Tuesday I went to the market in the village and I bought a nice top. I am chuffed! And it will come with me in my suit case to Holland.
On Wednesday they announced the water would be cut off for maintenance work. Luckily it didn't last long (I had 5 buckets of water ready in the bathroom to flush the toilet with should it last all day)
Yesterday I met my neighbour just as she came out of her chicken coop. She gave me two eggs she had just 'picked'. So we had lovely soft boiled eggs for breakfast.
That is it from me this week. I hope your week has had lots to smile about too. Please join me at Annie's A Stitch In Time to share them. I also usually link up with Virginia at Rocking your Week Friday
As always I have some funnies from the internet at the end of this blog.

Have a lovely weekend,
Take care,
Hugs,
Lisca

  1. lovely postcards-and fun to get a handmade one. that's amazing to me you don't have an actual address-that must be so difficult for the postman to deliver-can't imagine how he can do that.

  2. No street names?! Do you live just around the corner?
Often same problem here - but not that "bad"!
    14 millions, by golly.
Ohhh sheep. When Hubby still lived in the country we used to visit them and "talk" with them, such cute animals!
Hmmm, spicy candles, wonderful. And fresh eggs!
Clever Henrietta! And, ohhh those woolen hats! A figure here sometimes gets socks on for winter.
Great collages, I love them! Hugs and a happy Friday!

  4. Gorgeous stamps again Lisca, the kiddy ones are a delight. That hand made card is gorgeous and I'm wondering whether it's hand drawn or a stamp? Downton Abbey was one of my favourite series, you will not be disappointed right to the end. Loving the new top you bought it really suits you. But the funnies....brilliant! Have a great weekend, Angela xXx

  5. Oh what lovely postcards and the stamps are stunning. Your olives are awesome as are the new seedlings sprouting. I too was at the post office recently sending off cards and presents for people I won't see over the festive season, our postie has said he'll be glad now the election is over as well as delivering Christmas mail they've been posting lots of election information which has really weighed them down.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend and week ahead.

    Hugs

  6. I love the sound of a sheep bell, so different from a cow bell. Your very own olive trees! How exciting! Candles make wonderful seasonal decorations, and yours are lovely. I'm sure the scent is wonderful :)

  7. Those postcards are beautiful. The handmade one is out of this world. Most impressive.

LOVE that you are making daily scrap pages. I'm in awe. Your new sweater looks good, too.

WoW, those olives. 30 trees? I am living in the wrong part of the world!!!

I don't think I've ever heard a sheep bell, but when I was in school and played percussion instruments, we had a cow bell.

Those funnies are great, but that MURAL of the cat is out of this world. That is one incredible mural.

Have a super Friday and weekend, too, dear Lisca.

    1. You've never heard sheep bells? Here is a youtube fragment of a flock of sheep. They happen to be Greek sheep, but they are the same all over the world. It's just a very pleasant relaxing sound. I hear it every day. I love it.

  8. Oh dear Lisca. We do at least have street names and we are one of the lucky ones who has a letter box on the outside wall so our mail is delivered to us, rather than the Correos.
I love the little Chinese couple on your card, and the other one is lovely too. I hope you have a great time in Holland.
I love gathering my own 'harvest' even though I only have one orange, one lemon and one tiny mandarin tree. It is good to see the seeds germinating already. I hope they can withstand the winter weather. Kate x
