A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 1 October 2019 - T for garden, pizza and dinosaures

Hello lovely ladies,
here we are again on Tuesday. Are we all ready for the T-Party? Then join us at Elizabeth and Bleubeard's with a blog post with something drink related in it.

Let me show you some postcards i received recently. This one came from Russia. In French it says: Nikitski Imperial  Garden. In the corner is a little colur photo of what i assume is a modern view of the same garden. I went online and found that the gardens still exist. They are in Yalta in the Krimea.

Located not far from Yalta, the Nikitsky Botanical Garden is a real outdoor museum, one of the most unique landmarks of southern Crimea. This man-made park is recognized as a masterpiece of landscape art and is one of the oldest and the most famous botanical gardens in the world. It is rightfully called the ‘green treasure’ of the peninsula: unique types of plants from all regions of the planet are gathered on the garden’s huge territory.

Nikitsky Botanical Garden’s history began almost 200 years ago, in 1812. It was created on the order of emperor Alexander I in order to develop gardening and farming in the south of the Russian Empire. The founder and the first director of the Garden, prominent botanist Christian Steven, brought together samples of plants from different regions of Europe, Asia, and America. Today, thanks to his large collection of rare species, breeds, and forms of plants, the Nikitsky Botanical Garden is one of the most picturesque attractions on the peninsula.
The park is famous in the whole world first and foremost for its unique arboretum. On 40 hectares, trees and bushes from different continents grow together, forming a unique collection of plants. Such variety creates an illusion that walking through the garden, you make a trip a round the world. Two tourist favorites are the cacti greenhouse, which has over thousand rare species, and the rose collection, which has around 2000 kinds of roses and is one of the best in southern Europe.
Doesn't that sound wonderful? I would love to visit those gardens!

My second card comes from South Korea. The sender writes that it is the 'Ggotzi seashore'. But I haven't been able to find it anywhere.
The interesting bit is the stamp on the front, and looking closely i can see that the stamp features the same spot in the day time.
Now for my drink reference: Friday hubby and I went out with our friends to eat pizza at a restaurant called La Gondola. This is the pizza Hawaii divided up, ready to eat. And my drink is... red wine (Ribeira del Duero for those who want to know)

I have no idea what hubby is laughing about.
And this was my dessert: panna cotta with a raspberry sauce.

We went to the south coast last week for a little break. On the way back we stopped at the Rules reservoir.
It is in a beautiful area called the Alpujarras. They are the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. (We live on the other side of the mountains)
The Guadalfeo river and its network of tributaries drain in the territorial unity of La Alpujarra, located in the southeast of the Granada province.
 Purpose of the dam:
– Protection against flooding from the Guadalfeo lower valley and his rich delta
– Supply the coast population (approx. 250.000 inhabitants)
– Irrigation of 5.000 hectares
Features
The Rules Reservoir basin has an area of 1.070 km 2, has an average annual rainfall of 600 mm and an average annual contribution of 150 hm3.
The type of the dam is Gravity Arch, arc of 500 m of radius and has a coronation length of 531 m.
The reservoir has a surface area of 345 hectares and a capacity of 117 Hm3.

That is all from me today.
Elizabeth mentioned Georgia o'Keefe and when I saw this little cartoon, I had to think of her. So Elizabeth, this is for you:

Happy T-Day!
Take care,
Hugs,
Lisca

  2. The Nikitski Imperial botanical gardens look fascinating. I love that the stamp is of the same view. I was curious about the Korean seashore. If you search for Kkotji Beach, I think this is it. Beautiful!

I enjoy Hawaiian pizza. Hubby doesn't. The panna cotta served in a canning jar is very cool.

Funny, I wrote something about our local presas today also. Yours is much more informative than mine.

It took me a bit to get the Georgia O'Keefe bee cartoon.

    What a fun post.

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx

  3. Thank you for not only sharing the postcards and stamps but also for taking the time to share the meanings of the cards and history. Those gardens must be something in person! Never had Hawaiian pizza I guess cuz my hubby would never go for that;) Looks yummy with that wine! Always nice to get away a bit and explore other places.

  4. :-) I hope I don´t end up like the dinosaurs! My hubby has to "make me" have a cuppa every weekend.
Oh, I somehow gave up with postcards a couple of years to go - nice to see the project is still on!
Hmmm... the pizza looks great with the cheesy stripes!

  5. I so enjoyed this post. I now know why I drink coffee. I don't want to go the way of the dinosaur!

Your postcards were amazing today. I was especially impressed with the Ggotzi seashore with the matching postage stamp. That was clever.

It's been forever since I've had Hawaiian type pizza. I think it was on a buffet years ago. It looks good, though.

I had to laugh at the Georgia O'Keefe cartoon. It was very clever.

Thanks for sharing your postcards, your meal, your wine, and that Georgia O'Keefe cartoon with us for T this Tuesday, Lisca.

  13. Beautiful postcards and stamps.
Your pizza looks so yummy. Those slices of ham are very large! Whenever we get Hawaiian pizza we get tiny pieces of ham. I have never had panna cotta but if it has raspberry in it it must be good.
Your pictures of Alpujarras are beautiful.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate
