A Postcard A Day - Friday 14 July 2017

Hello folks,
Happy Friday to you!
We have been hiding indoors for most of this week. I hardly dare go out, it is so hot! Even in the evening it is too hot to go for a walk. In the car it is bearable as we have air conditioning in the car.
Last night it was 42 degrees at 7pm and at 11 pm it was still in the 30s. At around 9 pm there was an almighty storm, strong (hot)winds, an occasional thunderclap and three drops of rain (I counted them). The stormy hot wind makes me feel nauseous. (Like walking into a hair dryer) Not nice. Anyway, enough of complaining about the weather. I't rather be too hot tan too cold.

What else have I been up to? The downstairs flat that my hubby is working on, is coming on nicely. We are expecting a family of four from the UK to visit on Monday, so the bedroom and the bathroom downstairs are now ready. It's lovely and cool down there and I think we will end up sleeping downstairs when our guests have left.
I also have the plan for the downstairs kitchen.

This is the carpenter's drawing. It is open plan with the living room and all I need to do now is go and choose the cabinet doors (style and color). I am excited as you can imagine.

This is the poster for the local yearly festival in our village. It was designed by one of my mates from the photoclub. There is always a competition, and her entry won. All the elements for which our village is known are there: The iron bridge

The old sugar factory
And the old tower
The marble colums (with the flamenco dancers) is a monstrosity on the entry roundabout into the village. I won't show you a photo of that as it is atrocious.

This is a very bad quality photo of a very sweet lady. She is my best friend's sister, who lives with them as she has Down Syndrome and can't live on her own. It was her 58th birthday the other day. She is such a sweety and loads of people turned up for her birthday bash! That was certainly the biggest smile of this week!

If you have something to smile about, (and who hasn't), please join Annie at A Stitch In Time.

Now for my postcard:

The town of Sopot is in Poland. Sopot is a fashionable resort on the Baltic sea. And no, you do not have to go to Specsavers (Sorry, UK joke) but this building is really crooked like this. It is called Krzywy Domek, which means crooked house.
Krzywy Domek was built in 2004. It is about 4,000 square meters (43,000 sq ft) in size and is part of the Rezydent shopping center.
It was designed by Szotyńscy & Zaleski, who were inspired by the fairytale illustrations and drawings of Jan Marcin Szancer and Per Dahlberg.
It was sent to me by Marek (don't know whether that is a female or male name). He/she has used a beautiful stamp:(I have no idea what the collection of patches is....)

The caption on this one reads: wickedness knows no limits.

With that I will leave you. I won't write a Tuesday blog as we are having visitors and I won't have time. So I'll see you all next week.

Have a good weekend and...
Keep smiling!
Hugs
Lisca

Hi Lisca, that is too, too hot. I wilt when it's much less hotter than that. I chuckled at you counting the raindrops - and there was only three, very odd. Sounds like a good plan to sleep in your basement flat where it is much cooler. I like the fashion for open plan kitchens/diners/sitting rooms. I think it is a much more social way of living than having a separate kitchen where the cook has to keep popping in and out. I like the poster your friend has designed and the photos taken round your village are lovely. That is a very strange building in the postcard - I'd love to see it for real but I think it would play tricks with my head. Maybe I'm being dense I don't get the caption on the last one. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend. Elizabeth xx

Oh my, that is hot and I think I may melt in that heat ... lol 😁. How lovely to be making such progress on your downstairs flat, I bet it looks wonderful and the kitchen looks great! You can see why your friend won the poster design, it captures your village so beautifully 😀. I thought the building on the postcard had been Photoshoped, wow ... it's amazing that it actually looks like that! You last caption made me smile, it is wicked to place the toilet roll there 😁. Happy Friday and have a lovely weekend! J 😊

I'm late, I'm late for a very important date!....I had my first customer through my door at 8 this morning and have had a steady flow since so have had my head down sewing til now so only just checking out all the smiles.
Rather you than me in that heat Lisca. I'm not a great lover of such extremes.....esp if I have to work in it. As for the Polish house....if that's what it looks like normally I'd dread to think what it looks like when you've had a drink or two 😂😂
Thanks for sharing,
Hugs,
Annie x

Hello Lisca!
Could you please send some of your heat to us. We have only a temperature of 17°C here and it's rainy. That's not summer! :-)
BTW, Marek is a male name.
Have a nice weekend,
Manfred

Hi dear,

Based on the comment you left on today's post, I gather you thought I was the one who left the comment about the bathroom toilet paper. That was Elizabeth, not BLEUBEARD and me. That's why I always insist on using both our names, since he is the face of our blog and Elizabeth has no Bleubeard, just memories of her beloved cat Bonnie! BTW, she also has a husband.

But thanks for the comment on my roller coaster entry. And I did get the cruel joke about the bathroom. I also LOVED the crooked building, which reminded me of the story there was a crooked man, etc.

Sorry Bleubeard and I'll miss you for T next week, since it's our 4th anniversary. Have an enjoyable time with your guests, though.

If I did the math right, 42C is 107F and that is super hot! Wow, I do hope your weather cools off a bit. We've had a heatwave here in SoCal with temps in the high 90's. I would love to see some rain, too. I enjoyed seeing the photos of your lovely village. Enjoy your week with your friends. Pat xx

Not a problem, Lisca. It happens to the best of us. BTW, per the bathroom joke, I always say when things like that happen, it was built by a man, because no woman would design anything like that.

Hi Lisca, I've just read your comments and now realise just how unobservant I can be! It's obvious and now that I see it I'm chuckling. Elizabeth xx
