A Postcard A Day - Friday 15 March 2019 - Friday Smiles

Hello Lovely girls (and boys),

How are you today? Got anything to smile about? I have. I had 'Happy Mail' yesterday. My pocket letter swap has arrived! I swapped with an American girl who lives in Malaga. The theme was 'Rainbow' and we had to use all different colours. This is what i received:

This is the back where she has included washi tape and stickers and even a tea bag.
In the envelope there were loads of lovely goodies.

What did I like best? The hand written letter! I will make sure i hand write my letters from now. It was a real pleasure to sit down and read it.
This is what i sent her:

Of course i also received some postcards from my usual Postcrossing swap. Here is one from Russia and comes to me from Nastya. She writes the translation of the writing on the card: 'Nicer books in the world no friend'. This doesn't make sense to me, so I think it probably means 'there is no nicer friend in the world than a book'
The second card is from China. It has no name on it so I don't know who it's from. And I have no idea what the Chinese characters mean, but it's a lovely drawing.

The stamps are colourful. The one on the right is Chinese New Year and the ship reminds me of Blue Peter ( British readers will understand this).

Changing the subject... hubby has been going to our plot of land (not far from where we live). We have two 'parcels', each surrounded by olive trees. About 30 or 40 in total. They have been neglected for many years and hubby has now learnt how to prune them, so he is doing one tree at a time. This is the overgrown, neglected version.
And here it is with all the suckers pruned away and the top opened up so all the sunlight can come into the middle of the tree. It looks quite drastic, but apparently that is what's needed.

My  little succulent is flowering again!

Those were my smiles this week. At the end I will post some funnies as usual. (the first one is for those who remember M*A*S*H.)

So I'm off to Annie's at A Stitch In Time and to Virginia at Rocking Your Week Friday.

Have a great weekend,
Take care,
Lisca

A Postcard A Day- Tuesday 12 March 2019 - T for zebras, vegetarians, carnaval and cats

Hello! Good Morning! It's Tuesday again and I am going to join the T-Party at Elizabeth and Bluebeard's. Will you join us too? All you need is a blogpost with a beverage in it.

I have had some happy mail! Look at this beauty! This card is one of Anne's (Cornucopia). She sent it to me on the 7th and I received it Monday morning the 10th! From the USA to Spain in 3 days. Incredible.

The back of the card is just as beautiful. The 'Par Avion is certainly appropriate as it has flown very fast over to me. The Southport cancellation stamp is very fitting as Anne tells me she watches the birds at Southport Beach. Thank you sooo very much Anne. I am absolutely thrilled.

The second card pales in comparison, but is quite unusual if you really look at it:
It reads:" I live vegetarian. Theresa H. (16) has been a vegetarian for 7 years.". I was remembering Susi's post about being vegan. I received this card the same week, but never got round to putting it in my blog.
Have you noticed her bra is made of red cabbage?

Here are the stamps. There is a rainbow, Bluebells and a fun mermaid sticker.

The next image is just that, an image. I found it on pinterest and I love it. (Just wanted to share it with you).
I love doors and windows and I have always loved architectural detail, and this looks like Jugendstil (or Art Nouveau). Very beautiful.

I have already blogged about the carnaval and the fancy dress costumes they do here. One photo I have kept aside to show you today:
Here are people dressed up as tea/coffee cups!
Perfect for T-Day or what!

Now on a more serious note: Our cat has been poorly for a while. He wouldn't eat, was listless and the last week he was constipated and dehydrated. We took him to the vet yesterday:
Lots of tests were done. (Long story, I won't bore you with that)  It appeared he was also very, and I mean very, anaemic. Haemoglobin literally in his boots! I couldn't believe he was still alive with an Hb like that!
I wish I could tell you this all had a happy ending. But it hasn't. In the end he had to be put to sleep. So we had a last cuddle,
and said goodbye to our 4 yr old puss. So today we are a bit sad...

I will end with a few photos from our trip to Almeria last month:
We chanced upon a small square where people were decorating the trees with wool.
Wrapping yarn around the trunk and hanging things in the tree

I have no idea for what occasion this has been done. I did ask them if they minded being photographed and they said it was OK.
In the middle was a sort of statue and the gate around it was full of padlocks. I saw that in Denmark too (the padlocks, in this case it was on a bridge).

That is it from me. Have a lovely week,
Hugs,
Lisca

A Postcard A Day - Friday 8 March 2019 - Friday Smiles

Hello lovely peeps,
How are you all? It's Friday again, when we share a few smiles from this week.

One of the good things this week is that it has finally rained! We live in a very dry area. It only rains a few times a year. And it did so on Wednesday, it also was blowing a gale and it was not nice I can tell ya. But we need the rain, so I say: Praise the Lord!

Here are a couple of postcards I received recently. The first, very colourful one is from The Netherlands. It comes from Mariella and she sends me some yummy fruit tartlets/cakes. Very pretty . Some have mauve flowers on them. I wonder if those are edible...
The second card is from Germany. It shows a map of the north west of Germany called Ost Friesland. It looks like a cartoon and has some really funny features when you start looking. Friesian cows who play ping pong amidst the cow pats. Hilarious! It was sent to me by Melanie who has decorated the back of the card with stickers and washi tape.
What have I been doing this week?  Thursday is usually the day I spend in my craft room. Last Thursday I spent time doing pocket letters. I finished a rainbow pocket letter. Every pocket had a different colour. I can 't show you yet until the recipient has received it. The other pocket letters that i have sent last week have not arrived yet either, (any day now, I'm sure) so that will be for another time.
I did make another scrapbook lay-out:
This is me and Carmelina, my bestie in Italy. We have been best friends since 1979, when I met her on the maternity ward where we both worked. The photo is from 2016. The journaling is under the top left corner.

Thursday (28th of Feb) was also Andalucia Day, a public holiday here. Kate has already shared some of the activities in her village. Our village had more modest things lined up (no tourists). There was of course flamenco music. This little quartet was playing in the park and the neighbourhood came out in force to watch and listen.

Then the past weekend there were lots of Carnaval's activities and parades and competitions. There was a fancy dress competition for children and for adults. I can't show you any of the children but the adults were quite fun too. I didn't stay long enough to see who won...
What do you think of Ken and Barbie?
These guys look like they are cassette tapes, although I don't 'get' the head dress and the Bic pens...
I don't know what these ladies are meant to represent. As I have no TV and don't go to the cinema, I have no idea.
But chocolate I do understand! Everyone does! Don't they look yummy!

This child I can show you. It is none other than my grandson Luciano in Italy. His mum kindly sent me this photo of him dressed up as a knight in shining armour. When I saw him I cried out: Ivanhoe!
This is giving away my age I suppose...
That's all from me this week. I'm going over and link up with Annie at A Stitch In Time and also to Virginia at Rocking Your World Friday.
And of course I have some funnies lined up at the end.
Have a lovely weekend,

Hugs,
Lisca
