A Postcard A Day - Friday 6 Oct 2017 - Friday Smiles

Helo lovely peeps,
Here I am again, back from our long travels. I have been AWOL for a while as we did not have internet everywhere. The camp site where we stayed did not have wifi either.

We travelled on the ferry from Portsmouth (UK) to Santander in North Spain. We had to be at the ferry terminal at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning. We didn't fancy getting up in the middle of the night so we left at 1 a.m. and drove from Somerset to Portsmouth. We got there at 4 o'clock, joined the queue and slept in the car for three hours. On the ferry we had a nice cabin, so we could sleep as much as we liked. (Which we did).

On Sunday afternoon we disembarked

and drove as far as Avila (west of Madrid) where we found a nice hotel.

On Monday we drove down to Andalucia and we spent the night at our weekend home.
On Tuesdays we always eat at our favorite restaurant  and eventually we arrived home on Tuesday evening. I spent Wednesday unpacking and sorting stuff and washing and drying. Luckily the weather here is lovely so, when the second washing machine load is finished, the first load is already dry and can be hung out.

Yesterday I made the menú for the week and we did the food shopping. I'm slowly getting on top of things.

There wasn't much mail but I did receive two lovely postcards of vintage dresses. This is a cotton 'promenade dress':
It is American from 1862-1864. The stamps are special too.
The solar eclipse stamps are made with termal ink. If you press your finger on them, they will change color and lighten so you can see the moon! Isn't that clever!
This is a French evening dress from the House of Worth. It is made of silk and dates from 1898-1900.
The stamps have a fashion theme too:
They have Oscar de la Renta patterns/designs on them. them.

I think I will leave it at that. I will see you all I hope at Annie's A Stitch In Time and Virginia's Rocking Your World Friday.

Have a good week, with lots of smiles,
Hugs,
Lisca

  2. Pleased to hear you've arrived home safely, that's quite a trip. I have to admit something now. I got you some more funny cards this August when we took mum and dad to the coast but could I find them!!! anyway I have now so will get round to sending them soon. I don't think our grapes will get much more sun now so may never have sweet ones we'll see. Happy weekend to you both, Angela xXx

  3. Oh bless that sounds like a long journey home, I'm glad you got a nice cabin and that you got to stop off on your way home at a nice hotel too, lucky you having nice weather to dry washing, unfortunately we are now in serious autumnal season here so no such luck. I'm loving the postcards and in particular the thermal solar onces, said 17 year old thought they were amazing!

  4. It looks like you had a wonderful time and lots of smiles on your travels 😁. The postcards you received are beautiful and the postage stamps are stunning! I love that if you touch the eclipse image it lightens so you can see the moon and the Oscar de la Renta patterns/designs are so pretty. Wishing you a very Happy Weekend! J 😊
