Here in Spain, autumn has finally arrived. It is cold and it has rained a few times this week. We have lit the fire and it is so lovely and cosy indoors.
The large kettle on the stove is a 6 litre kettle. I use it to heat up water to do the washing up with. When the weather is bad we have no hot water as the solar panel heats up the tank. No sun, no hot water. The tank has an immersion heater which heats electrically. We switch it on in the evening so we have hot water to have a shower before going to bed. Fortunately there are very few days here that the sun doesn't shine for a few hours.
The trees have now got their autumn colours. Beautiful. (This is one of my friends' photos):
Our neighbours are very generous. They often bring us their produce. This week we received this:
Lots of walnuts, half a crate of tomatoes, a bowl of plums, and loads of persimmon. They are the orange fruit. In proper English they are called persimmon, but here they are known as kaki fruit. The variety that we have here has to ripen on the fruit bowl. Unripe fruit is awful to eat. I'm not particularly keen on them even when ripe, so I searched for recipes that I could use them in. I found a recipe of Persimmon Bread that uses walnuts and kaki's. Bingo!
It is delicious! Here is the link for the recipe in case you are interested.
I should have taken a picture of me having a slice of cake with butter and a cup of coffee.... but i forgot. As this is T for Tuesday where we all share a drink and link in with Elizabeth and Buebeard at Altered Book Lover, I'll look on my camera to see if there is a a photo with a drink. Yes, here we are:
I cooked pulled pork in the slowcooker for the first time (earlier in the week) and it was delicious. Accompanied by some roast potatoes and beetroot with bacon lardons and of course a glass of red wine (as we do in Spain).
Gosh, you can really tell that I love my food!
I was hoping that I would be able to show you something crafty, as my craft room is now ready, but I haven't made anything yet. What I have done is found my knitting stuff among the boxes in my newly painted craft room. So now I have started to knit socks. I'm using a short circular needle, but for the heel I reverted back to the usual double pointed needles and managed the heel turn perfectly (for the first time I must admit, as I've never been able to get that quite right). So I proudly present..... my heel turn.... tada!
Enough waffle from me! Lets go and visit the rest of the T-Gang!
Have a schplendid T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca

Well done on winning the fight with the heel, always difficult! Your food and the walnut bread looks fantastic, yummy - enjoy. You are lucky to have such good neighbours! Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
Good on you with the heel. I don't knit, these days & never attempted socks when I did. Do you follow Sian Fair? She's a sock knitter extraordinaire!!! LOVE that your craft room is done. Photos please? Although I've missed some days in bloggy land so I could have missed that... LOVE that selection of fruit, you lucky girl! And bonus that you found that recipe....OH! And I really like the blog header, too:):)
No you haven't missed it. I am still unpacking boxes, but when all is in order I will take some pictures.
Oh that fire looks so cozy and inviting...
The photo of the autumn trees is stunning!! My great grandmother used to love persimmons-an acquired taste I guess cuz I could never learn to like them. And yes, they do need to be really ripe to boot. Your cake sounds like the perfect solution. Bravo on your knitting-too complicated for me. Happy T day!
Persimmon bread, a fire going, pulled pork, red wine AND you are knitting socks? We need to get together! I just finished a pair of socks. Isn't it magical when you turn that heel and it all works out? Enjoyed visiting today, just wish it were in person.
That was a HUGE tea pot. Glad to read it was not for tea, but for washing.
I have never had a persimmon, so wouldn't know if I like it or not. In fact, I've never seen one at the grocery store, either. I do like that you found a use for them, though. The bread sounds wonderful. You have some amazing neighbors, that's for sure.
I hope you got Linda's pumpkin roll recipe, because mine is laden with calories and cholesterol. I don't use anything low fat. My arteries will tell you that, too.
I've read about pulled pork, but it's another food I've managed to avoid.
I don't knit anymore, and when I did, it would never have been anything complicated like socks. You did a fantastic job. Love it when a plan comes together.
Thanks for sharing your sock, bread, the lovely autumn trees, the tea kettle, and your wine with us for T this Tuesday. Can't wait to see the completed craft room (HINT).
Forgot to mention, I love the new blog header.
Your fall color is gorgeous! And such a bounty of produce :) It's been ages since I had plums, but we had a tree when I was little and I've always liked them. I'll have to look for some the next time I go to the grocery. Happy T Tuesday! And I hope you have an especially sunny fall season
wow, so many goodies to eat! i just came across Kaki recently and i LOVE them. pure as they are. and i would love to get fresh walnuts to dye some fabrics with;) you know, everything can be used to the Maximum (i do even save the Skin of the Kaki in the freezer until i have a bigger amount, then i will try to boil and dye - not sure if it will work, but Exploration is everything;)
have a nice t-day and rest of the week, lisca!
so much to enjoy here...wonderful fruit, stunning new blog header, cozy fire, and knitting! I have tried to learn to knit and just can't wrap my head around it. Those socks will be heavenly warm! happy T day!
Cosy scenes and wonderful food.
Happy T Day
Love Chrissie xx
Congrats on the sock turning Lisca. Its kind of a scary knitting move, I think, but then it always seems to work out, even if not perfect, and there is a heel. Kind of amazing. Your bread looks yummy, and I've never had a persimmon so it would be good to try. Love seeing your fall as we are heading straight into winter here. Oh my. Happy T day. Hugs-Erika
Looks like autumn has finally arrived, your house must feel so warm and cosy with the stove going and your larger than life kettle is adorable. It looks so grand sitting on top of your stove - brilliant! Wow, that's so nice of your neighbours, they are very kind :-). I quite like permimmons myself and they are in our local greengrocers at the moment. I would never have thought of making bread out of them, it looks so delicious :-). I think you are so clever to be knitting socks, not sure me knitting skills are up to it ... lol :-). Wishing you a Happy T Day! J :-)
Great job with the heel turn, I have never mastered knitting socks. The photos you shared are lovely, your home looks really cosy with the stove lit and the bread must have tasted yummy, it does look very delicious.
Happy T day.
Yvonne xx
Your stove looks fabulous as does the fruit and the bread you made but I really must say a big 'Well done!' for making socks - my Mum used to knit all kinds of things including socks - I wouldn't have a clue how to turn a heel! Hugs, Chrisx
