WOYWW 348 Wednesday 3 Feb 2016 Lacemaking, mice, blossom and urgh!

Hi everyone! Happy WOYWW!

Don't be fooled by this enthusiastic opening, I'm feeling pretty lousy. I suffer from winter blues and even though I live in a sunny country I still get it from time to time. I feel like i want to curl up in a corner (or in bed) and sleep, I can't be motivated to do anything. It's difficult to explain. From experience I know that I will feel better tomorrow or the day after. I still have my lightbox and that usually does the trick.
Needless to say my desk is not very interesting at the moment. But I do want to show you this:
It's one of my lace making projects. It is finished but I don't know how to finish it. I've found a lady in our nearby town who does lace making and is willing to help. I'm going to see her later this morning. I will put my camera in my bag and perhaps have more photos next week.
This project has been hanging around for ages (more than a year) as i haven't been able to find anyone who does lace making here. When I found the bag with my spare cushion in it, it has been nibbled by mice (a common problem when you live in the country).
Time for a new bag don't you think? When I go into town tomorrow I will look for some material to sew a new one. Watch this space.
I'll leave you with something positive:
The almond trees are in blossom. A little bit early because of the warm weather. This photo was taken yesterday near our house.

Have a great week everyone,

Blessings,

Lisca

  1. Even through the winter blues you are managing to make something beautiful and plan trips out, so give yourself a hug and say well done me.
I'm going to show my mum your lacemaking as she fancies having a go.

  3. Wow lace making - that is amazing and so much work goes into those pieces, hope you get it finished later on! Loving the photo of the trees, I suffer with SAD but haven't got a light box, although I've heard good things about them, hope they lift how you are feeling!

  4. I'm doing a whistle stop tour of all my fav blogs before the painter arrives this morning.
Sorry to hear you're not feeling bright and chirpy today...we all have days like that I'm sure but we are all here to send you a hug and hope you are feeling brighter very soon.

  5. Love the lace - not something I've tried though. Sorry you are suffering - I do get a touch of 'the blues' at this time of the year - but nothing compared to how you are feeling. A friend of mine suffered in the same way as you. ( Sadly she died two years ago) Hope you feel better soon Lisca. Anne x #19

  6. I understand about the SAD experience - my daughter also has a light box. Mother-in-laws lace pillow is in my garage (she has dementia now) but it is too slow even for me - and I have done some - so it is looking for a new home. I hope you get to finish because I think handmade lace is really beautiful. Have a good week x Jackie 22

  8. Oh Lisca poor you, it's such a horrid feeling. At least you recognise it and can see that it will pass. The blossom on the trees is a lovely sign, I think. Your hidden talents are on show agai! Beautiful piece of lace, if you have no luck, try to hook up with WOYWWs Hettie, she might be able to help via the various ways we get in touch, her lace making is sublime. She's at http://hettiecraftcz.blogspot.co.uk/.

  9. Oh yuk - poor you! Hope you feel much better soon - especially as things seem to be looking up, what with the almond blossom and all. That lace is so beautiful - I tried once and got completely befuddled - so I take my hat off to you. Hope you get it finished off ok.
Not playing today (again) as I'm still trying to sort a new routine with John sine he got out of hospital, but just couldn't resist a peek around and then see if I could still comment on folks' blogs.
    Take care. God bless.

  13. I would say that was very interesting! Hpefully you'll find someone to help you 'finish' it. Sorry about the winter blues. It is horrible. I can't wait for it to be over. I keep telling myself that now it's February soon it will be March and the longer, warmer days will be here. Seems like here in Michigan we start moaning late summer because it's too hot and then we moan in the winter because it's too cold. Yup, I do that. It's me who does that lol.

    Have a great week!

  15. Well that lacemaking is the best thing I've seen all day! All those little spools being thrown around to create a masterpiece amazes me. Everytime I'm at a craft fair and I see a lacemaker, I have to visit them. So fascinating. I think we all get that winter blues too! Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #44

  22. Isn't Precious doing his job? Lazy cat! Lovely lace - I had no idea it was made this way! Hope your winter blues will disappear soon - the blossom picture suggests you've got wall to wall sunshine there. Interestingly, I feel more depressed in sunny weather - and I always feel happier in gloomy weather - weird, I know! Hope to see you in better spirits next week! zsuzsa #32

  23. That lace is really beautiful. Short days are bad for us all. Bring on the sun. Our days are starting to get longer so it is not dark at 4 pm but not like summer just yet. Peg 66

  24. Hi Lisca, how sad for you to have the winter blues your cartoon character is excellent and gets the message across perfectly of how you are feeling. Your piece of lace work is beautiful as is the picture of the blossoming almond trees. Hope you are feeling a little more uplifted soon. Lottie #60

  26. I had no idea that almond trees blossom. Pecan and walnut trees are prolific in my area and they don't bloom. However, the pear trees and citrus trees put out lovely blossoms.

  27. Oh Lisca, you poor thing - I sympathise with you as I occasionally have what I call my little black cloud that settles over me and follows me around, sometimes for days and sometimes for longer - I just have to wait until it decides to float off! I hope you are soon feeling yourself again. I love the lace, and it will be great to get it finished and off the pillow - it's fairly easy with a very fine crochet hook - you hook the threads through and knot them where the next stitches would be. Hope you have a good week and your spirits lift.

  28. Lisca, I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering from SAD and I hope the lamp helps you. I love the little picture of how you feel, and it makes me want to come over and give you a big hug!! The lace is absolutely beautiful. Years ago I went on a Honiton lace course - Honiton is the very finest lace and uses bobbins with no beads (they would be too heavy) and is characterised by motifs rather than borders or panels. In the end I decided it wasn't for me but I am very glad I did it because it gave me an insight into how lace is constructed, and just how much work is involved in it. Honiton is a town not far from us, here in the county of Devon in the UK, and it was once famous for its very fine lace.

The almond blossom is so beautiful! Lovely to see it. In Israel it is the first flower to open and is symbolic of readiness for action and heralds new beginnings, and the Hebrew word for almond also means "ready"! I always think of it as the first harbinger of spring, like our own snowdrops, which always fill me with joy when I first see them! Spring is on the way!

Thank you for your visit and your nice comment. Glad you like what I am up to now my creative mojo has returned! It's a shame the embroidery doesn't show up well on the photos, because in real life it's quite gold and sparkly but for some reason photos never pick this up properly.

Happy belated WOYWW and feel better soon!

  30. Love the lace it is so beautiful and so difficult to make! I don't have the patience. I have light box bulbs in the kitchen and craftroom! Interesting disorder this SADD-seasonal adjustment First time I went to Spain is when the almonds were blooming. I remember being fascinated by them and the olive trees and the ability to just go out on the terrace and pick my oranges...great times! I am a little late getting around but I made it! Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great week. Vickie #71
