A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 13 Sept 2016 - T for travel

Hello lovely peeps, Here I am again after a short absence. I have been to Italy to celebrate my son's 40th birthday and to cuddle my nearly two yr old grandson.

The place in Italy where I lived and worked for many years (and my son still lives) is called Guardiagrele. It sits in a national park called Parco Nazionale Maiella Abruzzo. Here is a photo of the town:
My son lives in the old centre in a modern house built on the ancestral site.

We live three and a half hours drive from the airport, and I had an early morning flight, so we left the day before in our campervan (RV) and parked near the airport. we also wanted to visit Ikea (a Scandinavian furniture store) as it's very close to the airport. We had needed bedsight cabinets and stupidly only bought one instead of two. So there we were to get cabinet number two!

I'm writing this because we had lunch in Ikea's restaurant and there is a drink in the photo:
Hubby had lasagna and chips and I had a slow cooked pork knuckle, which was delish!

The other reason is that from the restaurant we had a view on the car park. You might be interested to see that the entire roof of the car park is made of solar panels. They are too many to count. I have taken two photos in two different directions, and that is only the bit we could see from where we were sitting.

The journey went well. From Rome I had another three and a half hour journey by bus, but it all went smoothly.

Here is my little grandson:
And here is my son blowing his 40 candles on his birthday.
I musn't forget my postcard. As you can imagine, there were lots of postcards waiting for me when I came home.
I chose to show you this one:
As you know, I love windows and doors and this window, sent to me from Russia,  also has a cute kitty looking out of it.

That's it from me today. I'm going to link up with Elizabeth at Altered Booklover. Why don't you join us? Just post anything as long as it has a drink in it.

I must rush now as I have two plum tortes in the oven (yes, the famous NY Times recipe. It works every time). Will show pictures next time.

Happy T-Day,
And a good week,
Lisca

  1. Interesting food at your IKEA. We get nothing like that here at IKEA. They must vary their menu a bit from country to country. And I love the solar panels in the car park. What an excellent and green idea! Looks like you had a wonderful trip to visit your son. It looks like a beautiful part of Italy. And your grandson is adorable! Happy T day. Hugs-Erika

  3. I have never been to an Ikea although there is a store about an hour and a half away. Those were some long rides to get to your destinations but what an enjoyable time! Your grandson is a cutie. We should have solar panels like that around here. Love that sweet postcard too. Happy T day!

  4. I have never been to an Ikea, either, but it's because there isn't one within a 1000 miles of where I live. Seems they never made it to the middle of the country.

That was a LONG trip to your destination, but I can tell it was well worth it. I'm sure your son was as happy to see you as you were to see him. And you have an adorable grandson, too.

Thanks for sharing your IKEA meal and drink as well as your trip, and that adorable kitty in the postcard with us for T this Tuesday. And welcome home, too!

  10. It looks as though the food in your IKEA is better then the ones in England - usually a disappointing experience! What a brilliant idea for the car park! I feel for you having to travel so far to see your grandson - I am so lucky to have my three all within a 30 minute drive! Happy T Day! Chrisx

It looks like you had a very special visit for your son's birthday and to see your grandson, who is so adorable blowing bubbles :-). The solar panels are so clever - shading the cars from the sun whilst collecting it's energy, genius! Your pork looks good, fthe food is always fab in Ikea! This week's postcard is wonderful and the kitty cat even looks Russian ... lol! Hope the plum tortes made it out of the oven ok, I can't wait to see the photos, bet it tastes delicious :-). Wishing you a Happy T Day! J :-)
