A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 3 December 2024 - T for kitty, mexican and Belarus food

Hello lovely girls,

Hoe has your week been? I'll tell you all about mine in a minute. First I'd like to show you a postcard:
It comes from Yara who was on holiday in Belarus when she sent this to me. It features a Belarusian dish.

I had to use Google translate to find out what it was:

"Herring with mushrooms Radzivil style. The project was prepared with the assistance and materials of the chef, expert of Belarusian cuisine, Alena Mikulchyk."

Just as an aside: the name Radzivil rings a bell. If I remember well, Jackie Kennedy was a Radzivil.

The stamp is very beautiful:
It is the Amanita Pantherina.

Wikipedia says this:
Amanita pantherina, also known as the panther capfalse blusher, and the panther amanita due to its similarity to the true blusher (Amanita rubescens), is a species of fungus found in Eurasia with poisonous and psychoactive properties.

A. muscaria and A. pantherina are illegal to buy, sell, or possess in the Netherlands since December 2008. Possession of amounts larger than 0.5 g dried or 5 g fresh lead to a criminal charge.

So much for my postcard. What's been happening here? Well, my little kitten Frankie got very ill. On Friday I had organised a few things as it was the date that my husband died and I did not want to be alone. Nights were difficult then and the last night was particularly difficult. I had planned a lunch with Kim and Andy and in the evening a Mexican meal with David and Patricia.
On Thursday evening Frankie deteriorated and could no longer use her hind legs so I booked an emergency appointment with the vet at 9:30 on Friday morning. Thursday evening she had a gran mal fit. And I spent the night with her in my arms (deja vue) as she had more fits. At the vets, they did tests and put a drip in snd admitted her. Here is a very bad picture (I was upset and the vet was in front of me) of her being put in a cage with the drip.

When I got home Kim and Andy were waiting for me. We loaded the car with the boxes of 'stuff' that needed to go to the charity shop (thrift store) and we drove to Albox in an hour and something. After having got rid of the 'stuff', we popped into an English shop to buy a fewn things that we can't get in our area, and then we went to have lunch. The weather was glorious and we felt overdressed. We live on 3000 ft and it is always a bit cooler. I stripped to my vest. The black thing I'm wearing is actually underwear, but it looks nice.

Yes, we had fish and chips. I had a lovely large cod in beer batter. Just the way I like it.

I'm drinking cider, my favorite drink which we can't get in our area. Andy promised to drive back so I could have a drink.

I had a little rest when I got home (didn't go to archery as I was a bit tired and having had a few drinks doesn't help ).

In the evening David and Patricia and I went to the new Mexican restaurant in town. It was called Catrina. (My second name)

We started having several different tacos. As you can see I can't wait to get stuck in:

Taco's:

And more tacos:

We had nachos too but I don't seem to have photographed those.
Anyway I spent a lovely day with friends and I am very thankful.

The next morning I got a phone call from the vet to say that Frankie had died in the night. I'm sad about that but I had expected it. They mentioned meningitis. Well I don't know. How does an indoor cat contract meningitis?

I think I'd like another cat as I liked the company. The house feels empty. I'd love a ginger cat. Watch this space....

Today is Elizabeth and Bluebeard's T-Party and there are plenty of drinks in the above photos so I qualify.

Okay, that is it from me today.

Wishing everyone a happy T-Day!

Hugs,

Lisca

I am so sad about Frankie. At least she had some good days with you, but it is so sad that her life was so short. Will you get another kitty at some point? I hope you have a great T day and week ahead. And happy December to you. hugs-Erika

I was SO sorry to read about Frankie. She was a beautiful kitten and I also don't understand why she went down hill so quickly. My heart reaches out to you in your loss. I'll be back soon to see your T post.

So tough to be saying goodbye to Frankie on Graham's anniversary - really glad you had good company on Friday & are planning for another feline companion soon. Love & hugs (salivating over all those glorious food photos!) Keren
