WOYWW 291 Happy new year!

Hi deskhoppers! Better late than never!

I have no photo of my desk as there is nothing on it. Sorry, next week there will be something I expect.... all those New year’s resolutions about things I intend to do.....

Have you all had a lovely Christmas? Here in Spain they celebrate Christmas Eve and we were invited by friends for the late night meal.

On the way to their house we got stuck and had to wait until the sheep had cleared the road. Yes, it’s an unpaved road but we have a 4x4 car so no problem.
Our friends have a huge kitchen, and had a nice fire roaring. The table was laid and this was the centre piece.

All married couples here in Andalucia have one as it is tradition to give this ‘ornament’ at the wedding. People then put money and trinkets in it for the newlyweds. It takes pride place in every household and each one is unique as they are handmade. (I’m sorry but I’ve forgotten what they are called).

Traditionally people eat fish and seafood for Christmas Eve but the economic situation being what it is, not many people can afford it, so we had seafood soup for starters and chicken as a main course. Very nice!

Here are my hubby and I just having a bit of fun by the fire.

We both wish all of you a very happy and healthy 2015.

CU next week, God bless

Lisca

  6. Sounds like a great way to celebrate Christmas.....aaaah! Country living....I vaguely remember waiting for sheep or even WORSE dairy herds to cross the roads! I spy Coke on the table...some things are TRULY international, eh? Hoping you can get back to your scrapping soon! All the best for a settled, new house-loving and living 2015:):)

    1. Well I wouldn't want to wait for an Australian sheep herd! You have a lot of sheep in Oz! Yes, the Coke is for the kids. I don't touch it with a barge pole. (I use it for blocked drains!)
But yes, we were an international gathering. The only truly Spanish person at the table is our friend right at the end raising his glass. Many are Brazilian. And my hubby British and me Dutch.
Thank you for stopping at mine and for the lovely comment,
Happy New Year to you and yours,

  9. Your celebrations sound lovely. My friend and her family always celebrated on New Year's Eve. Sadly she died just before last Christmas ( ovarian cancer) her husband and daughters are in Canada this year doing something completely different. Happy New Year to you and your husband. Anne x #28

  10. So interesting seeing how different cultures celebrate traditional holidays. Your pictures are lovely, and it all looks as if you had a wonderful time! I love that beautiful terracotta table centre.

We had a very quiet Christmas - a total non-event as far as I was concerned as I was ill, but we are having our delayed Christmas dinner with a friend tomorrow. Hope I've got some appetite back by then!!

Happy New Year and happy WOYWW,

  13. Thanks for your return visit, Lisca, and I'm glad you are enjoying all my projects from last year! Looking back, I'm amazed how much I managed to achieve, given what else was going on in my life. I love this time of year when one looks back and gets a sense of achievement, and then the lovely looking forward, and all the plans for the year ahead. You've certainly got some interesting ones, and I look forward to our continuing following of each other's blogs to see what we get up to!!

  14. Visiting your blog is always so interesting Lisca! I always find out something new about the Spanish culture. It must be very rural if the roads are not even paved. Your husband looks like a happy chappy! Nice to see both of you smiling! Best wishes for the New Year! I look forward to visiting your blog throughout 2015! (Thanks for visiting earlier!)

  16. Happy new year and thanks for visiting. In answer to your question about a "micron Pen" - it is a permanent fine tip pigment ink pen used for sketching. They are made by Sakura and come in lots of different sizes.
