A Postcard A Day - Friday 8 November 2019 - Friday Smiles

Good morning lovely ladies,
How are you today? Have you had much to smile about this week? There is always a silver lining along each cloud and it helps to count your blessings. And I do. I am very blessed. Many smiles this week.
Of course the first smiles are always my postcards. This one is a beautiful painting by Sir William Orpen (1878-1931), Grace reading at Howth Bay (c.1908-1912).
I love Orpen's work ever since I saw a copy of one his paintings on the Antique Roadshow. It turned out to be an original! (Did any of you see that?)
My next card is from Japan. I think they are three women.... but I'm not sure about the figure on the left.

And the stamps are gorgeous. The one on the right looks like a Dick Bruna illustration. (A Dutch illustrator and artist), and the other two with cute animals: a rabbit and a monkey.

So what have i been up to this week? Autumn has now arrived here too. These photos were taken on Sunday:

Lots of autumn colours and fallen leaves.
On Mondays I always pray with my best friend. It was my turn to go to her house and we sat by the window. This is the view:
On Tuesday I had a little accident in that I dropped the glass lid of my favorite pan. The pan I use every day. My 'go-to' pan! All I had left was the metal ring and the pink handle. You can see the lidless pan in the background.

This is what it looked like .
The glass broke in thousands of pieces! I was very upset.
Wednesday I had a couple of friends round to make Christmas decorations..
We made snowflakes from a die cut:

Then yesterday a chap came round with a tractor to plow our two fields. We want to start planting stuff in the spring.

The people that own the neighboring field keep a horse there. Can you spot it?

The people that keep the horse, also have two large dogs. One of them has puppies and they are so affectionate!

That is it from me today. I will try and find some funnies for you and will put them at the end as per usual.
Take care everyone!
Keep smiling!
Hugs,
Lisca

  2. I love Dick Bruna books so your stamp made me smile. The piles of leaves bring happy memories of kicking them up with the children and all the Autumn pictures we use to make with them.
Sorry to hear about your pan...hopefully you can get a replacement lid for it? Great funnies as always....esp the one with the kitty on it.
    Hugs,
    Annie x

  3. Hi Lisca, your postcards are both lovely but, like you, I'm not too certain if that's three ladies in the second - it's questionable. Love the photos of leaf pile - just crying out to be jumped in and tossed about, methinks. Enjoyed the funnies - definitely put a smile on my face. Have a great weekend. Elizabeth xx

  4. Hi Lisca, more gorgeous postcards and the art work is amazing. It looks like you've had quite a mix of good days and not so good but it happens. I had no idea that you had such a large field and yes I can just see the white horse which is a relief as I've been for my eye test this week. Your funnies are brilliant as ever and love the expression on the kittie's face. I do think that more people are sewing again which is why we're seeing fabric stalls at the shows and they were really busy, I had to wait about twenty minutes to get served. I'm sorry there hasn't been much happening in the Crafter's Cabin. Hubby is going to put the lighting in this week but because we're still waiting to get the conservatory finished things have taken more time to complete but we'll get there and you will definitely get to see it. My sister-in-law has just offered a pine chest of drawers that they don't need any more which will be very useful but to be honest the weather is not helping to get things sorted and it is going to be a big job moving all my stuff into the Cabin but we'll get there. Have a lovely weekend, Angela xXx

  5. I love that postcard. That hat! and she looks like she's found a lovely spot :)

Oh, no! I'm sad about your pan. Glass is so unforgiving :( Your views and your Autumn colors are wonderful. Your "sit back and enjoy life" story is definitely an inspiration. I googled the image, and that is sometimes called Three Beauties After Bath https://ukiyo-e.org/image/artelino/14097g1 so I'm thinking it's three women.

  6. That's a beautiful painting on your first postcard.
What a shame about the pan lid. Our todo shops sell replacements in all sizes so I am sure you will find one, but sadly it won't match the others! As usual, your funnies made me smile.
have a good week, with lots more to smile about. Kate x
We don't have any deciduous trees around here to drop their leaves, but I really enjoyed all the ones in England.
I wish Graham all the luck in the world for his veggie garden. You probably have enough rain up where you are to make it a success. here it is very 'touch and go'. I would love to grow proper UK style runner beans. They are so much tastier than the Spanish flat ones or the finas. But we don't have the land for that sort of planting.

  7. The postcards are lovely but I think I love the stamps more!

Your trees look fabulous and the leaves are obviously dry ours are rather wet at the moment and not nearly as pretty, although we do get some distant views of the yellowing trees.

Oh can't wait to see what you do with the land, your properties seem to have lots of extras to them - how lovely to be able to use all that space.

I hope you have a brilliant weekend and week ahead

  8. I just wrote a long post explaining why I haven't been here. I have NO idea what happened to it, but suffice it to say, I fear I don't have time to rewrite it. My apologies.
