A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 17 September 2019 - T for storms, swimming pools and dates

Good morning lovely people! Let's join the T-Party hosted by Elizabeth and Bluebeard. Link up with a blog with a beverage in it. My beverage this morning will be shown a bit further down.

You might have seen it on the news but Spain has had some atrocious weather lately. Thunderstorms and much rain. We welcome the rain as it hasn't rained for many months, but these were torrential rains and they did a lot of damage. Many places on the east and south coast are flooded. We are higher up but still, walking down the lane from our house we saw this:
It's not a proper house. It's more like a shed. This elderly chappie kept his chickens and tools there.
The photos were taken by our neighbour Martin Rawlings.
Our house is fine. (apart from a few damp patches on the ceiling. Hubby is investigating.)

My postcard today is one from the USA. It is a 1976 photo by photographer Martine Franck entitled Le Brusc, France. To mark the fortieth anniversary of paid vacations in France, Martine Franck was commissioned in 1976 to do a survey of the French 'en vacances'. The Pool,in the town of Le Brusc. Provence, is designed by Alain Capeilleres.
Martine Franck was a British-Belgian documentary and portrait photographer. She was a member of Magnum Photos for over 32 years.

I managed to find some images of that particular pool (It still exists).

The white oasis pool was designed by Alain Capeillères for his summer home hidden in the hills of Six-Fours-les-Plages (Le Brusc).

The stamps are really stunning too.
The person that sent me the card, lives in central Alabama, and he managed to add a stamp of Alabama. The American Toleware coffeepot is my qualifier for the T-Party.

We are still on our Daniel Fast, and are eating vegan without refined sugar, coffee, alcohol,  and without yeast. I have had to be a bit imaginative with my meals, but thanks to the internet I have cooked some really great meals, which will definitely stay in my repertoire even after the fast.
Here is a photo of a cauliflower steak that I made the other night, served with some leftover stew from a couple of nights before. It was very nice.

Hubby misses his sweet things and as he is doing hard physical work, he also needs more energy. Last Tuesday at the market I bought a kilo of fresh dates. They are so good! So hubby can snack on fresh dates.

I'll leave it at that.
Happy T-Day to all,
Hugs,
Lisca

  1. How awful for those who suffered damage from the storms like this man did. Glad you were OK. Interesting postcard- and how cool that the pool still exists! I'd do very well with your diet-YUM! but...I would miss a nice glass of wine on occasion;) Dates are a nice sweet substitute for hubby. Happy T day!

  3. Wow, that poor man no longer has his shed, does he? It looks like you had some very hard rain. That pool is fascinating. I can't believe it is still there, but that is a good thing because it looks like a museum. Wishing you a wonderful T day Lisca. Hugs-Erika

  4. What a difficult time some of the people in your town must be having. That poor man who lost his tool shed and probably his tools, too. My sympathies with him.

What an amazing postcard and pool. It is gorgeous and so very modern looking, even today. Some designs are truly timeless.

Your meal looks great, and I could enjoy the one you ate, too. However, I can't live without my coffee. I'm glad you can give it up so easily. I do like vegetarian food, so that wouldn't be much of a stretch for me. Glad you found recipes on the internet that helped.

Clever way to join the T party this week, dear Lisca. Great for thinking outside the box. Thanks for sharing your postcard, your meal, the fresh dates (LOVE DATES), and your Toleware postage stamp with us for T this Tuesday.

The postcard look good it was interesting to read about the pool.

  9. How sad to have suffered such damage. First too little rain, and now too much :( I love that the pool is still there and that photos are available for comparison :) Fruit is often sweet enough to serve as dessert, especially dried fruits. Happy T Tuesday!

  11. Oh my, your poor neighbor and all the others affected by the horrible storms. I hope they are getting the help they need.

That's a fascinating bit of history about the French 'en vacances.' What a beautiful pool.

Your fast sounds very difficult, Lisca, but you've gotten quite creative. Good for you both!

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx

  15. Really that´s the sad results of the storms we had some days ago, too much rain and a lot of damages. Here in the town we could say nothing passed, but in El Ejido, Níjar.... Roquetas de Mar, it´s a big desaster, the warehouses are quite almost damages, as houses, etccc.. well, we may help, and continue with the life, no more options. Hope your ceiling is all ok.
I love your stamps Lisca, and the nice postcard you received, this swimming pool is fabulous, would like to be there :)
Your meal may be delicious, that couliflor so yummie. Wish you had a very nice T-day.
I wish you a very happy afternoon, and send big hugssss
