WOYWW 799 - Wednesday 25 September 2024

 Hello lovely peeps,

I'm joining you again with my 'workdesk' this week. I'm on holiday in Lisbon, Portugal, but this is what I'm doing at the mo:

This is the beginning of a woollen sock. I love knitting socks and I do them from the toe upwards in the round. I use the Turkish cast on.

I used to knit socks the traditional way, with 4 or 5 needles, but that was so fiddly. Then I found this new way on the Internet. The heel is called a 'fish lips kiss heel' and it is so easy I can do the heel while watching tv. I paid only a couple of $ for the pattern years ago and I'm so glad I did it. I have been knitting socks like this for years. (And no, she is not paying me. I'm just very happy I have found a method of knitting socks that suits me.)

The yarn is Pandoro and I can't remember if I bought it in the Netherlands or online. It is fine sock wool 100gr,  75% wool and 25% Polyamide. The colour changes in the yarn create the stripy pattern.

I have taken my knitting with me on the bus to Lisbon (13 hours on the bus) and this photo has been taken on the bus. You can see I had made a bit more progress:

Enjoy the rest of the week,

Lisca

LOL! I love the FLK and do it all the time. It is also a mirror image, so when you have a cuff down pattern you can do the pattern part on the top of the foot, then do the heel same way as usual, then knit plain on the back for a bit (like an inch) and then wrap the pattern around. You need do no more to "convert" cuff down to toe up. I've also used one half of the pattern at the bottom of the body to make a little "butt" for teddy bears :D. It's such a useful pattern. The TSP and TSKs work as a replacement for the wrap&turn of other short rows and is easier and neater (IMHO) although it does need some calculations to determine where to put it. Next for you? Two at a time, magic loop...Second Sock Syndrome is very real for me LOL!
A quick hop before knitting at mine!
Happy WOYWW.

Hi Lisca! Happy WOYWW. Hope you're having a fab time in Lisbon. I'm not a sock knitter myself but I do see it happening for me in the future. I've made fingerless mittens using multiple needles and that was gosh darn fiddly (had to have a separate thumb, you see) so the idea of not needing 4-5 needles to do socks is intriguing. I'll have to look it up. Thank you for sharing!

It always fascinates me how these variegated wools manage to turn out in stripes, and yours are very pretty stripes. eg love the colours, 13 hours on a coach - Wow!
Mind you I haven't a clue about this sock knitting (Did a pair at school some XX years ago) so i am off to see the video so I understand a bit better.
The elusive tale was one I had never heard of - The Elves and the Shoemaker or was it The Shoemaker and the Elves. Something else I need to look up,

13 hours on the bus! I hope the seats are comfy. Enjoy your holiday. I would rather I crochet than knit and prefer chunky wool! I would love to see a picture of your home, I am sure it’s far better than the term “cave house” conjures up in my mind! Happy WOYWW. Angela #15

Hello Lisca, hope you are enjoying your visit to Lisbon and the weather is being kind to you. Your socks look cosy. Nice colours too. I used to knit socks but with double 5 double pointed needles and have tried both versions, top down and toe up, but have no favourites. I had to chuckle at the name of the heal method - one for me to try one day. I've got my fingers crossed this week as I tried leaving a comment last time you were on WOYWW but Blogger was being troublesome. Have a good week. Elizabeth x #8e.

Hope you have a great time on your holiday. I’d be really interested to buy the pattern as the construction and names for it are intriguing so if you still have a link to it, I’d love it sometime please. Your wool is beautiful
Take care and happy WOYWW

Cool yarn for the socks, love how the stripes are turning out. So glad you had a laugh with Eddie Izzard this morning, it cracks me up every time. I actually watched the "whole" show last week which explains some of the jokes but the sketch is fine in stand alone too. In fact the sketch was actually his encore at the end of a nearly 2 hour show, thought it was never coming LOL. Hugs BJ#11

Dear Lisca,
Knitting socks is a great way to spend a long bus ride in a meaningful way. And your socks look really pretty!
You wanted to know if our guest cat Samia likes to be cuddled - she is cuddly and likes to be stroked, sometimes on her belly, but she doesn't really like to be picked up and cuddled. She lives in a family with children and has perhaps been dragged around too often 😉
All the best and wonderful days in Portugal!

I used to knit a lot when I was younger, using fine wool like yours to make baby clothes! I love your stripey socks! I don't think I could pick up knitting again after all this time. Have a great time in Portugal! Lindart #17

Loving those socks and the wool Lisca. Sorry to be so late visiting this week but I had great difficulty getting my computer to link up with the internet on Wednesday and a busy week at work. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW memories next week.
