WOYWW 332, aboriginal art, kitten and paella in the street.

Hi folks, Here we are again, peeping at each other's desks. I'll show you mine quickly and get it over with:
This was my desk last night. Not much going on. I bought another photo frame for the lovely card Bridget sent me recently. (I managed to get a matching frame.) Bridget had sent me a postcard of Aboriginal art which I loved so much I framed it! Then she sent me another one (the one on the left)

and that is now duly framed too. Thanks Bridget!

The pile in the foreground are more postcards that I have received recently, which I use as  subjects to write my daily blog.

Look what's under my desk:
She is a little stray kitty that lives on our building plot ever since she was a tiny kitten. One of the other stray cats had taken her under her wing and she survived. The other cats have moved on but she has stayed. She lives on the roof terrace and we feed her daily. Yesterday we had an appointment with a charity that neuters cats. We enticed her into the travel 'catcot' thingy, and off we went. We have a pick-up utility truck with a cover over the back. Well, to cut a long story short, kitty managed to get out of the box somehow, when we stopped for a drink an hour into our journey (the flap wasn't secured properly it appears). There was no way we could safely get her back in. Feral cats won't let you handle them, so she might have bolted as soon as we lowered the tailgate and we would have lost her in the middle of nowhere. So we cancelled the appointment and turned back. We decided to keep her indoors and she really loves it. She has found this mat by the bed and has been sitting there contently all evening. She didn't seem to be stressed at all by her 'adventure' in the back of the truck.

What's happening here in Spain? Well this weekend there was a charity paella organised for a little boy called Santi to raise money for a special treatment for him in Madrid. People paid 3 Euros for a plate of paella.
This is in the main square of our village. The paella (a rice dish) is cooked over a wood fire. The building in the back ground is the town hall.
Here in the background is a small church. (there is a bigger one in the next street).
This is looking up the High Street. We live at the end of that street.
See how people queue up to get their portion and the volunteers spooning up. I think there must have been a few thousand people. I don't know how much money they raised. But it certainly was well attended.

That's it from me today. If you are wondering what this is all about, visit Julia at Stamping Ground who leads us into all this desk snooping....

Have a good week all of you,

Lisca

  2. That is some paella. What a terrific event, I would love to visit something like this and it was for such a worthwhile cause. I hope the little one gets his treatment.
Great story about your little puss. A friend of mine has five feral cats that she took in when she lied in Wales. They used to take off for weeks or days but always came back. Now she has moved from Wales and they have gone with her - and stayed. They are more like house cats now but still some of them won't be petted. Once when I was at her house having a meal I suddenly felt something under the table - one of them was nibbling my big toe. I'll leave you there LOL.

  6. Hoping that you can entice Kitty back into the cat carrier and get the desexing done! Meanwhile, that is a good way to tame ANY wild cat!!! Give 'em a taste of luxury:) I'm a real fan of Aboriginal art - I think it looks fabulous:):) And so does the paella...nice to sort of understand where you live, too. I didn't realise it was so close to a village:)

    1. We are fortunate to have two homes: one in the country and one in the village. We are getting older and it's not practical to live out in the sticks. So we live on the edge of this village, one minute walk to the centre. Ideal!

  11. What an exciting life you live Lisca. That paella is huge. I have a large paella pan that hangs up on the wall in our kitchen. I'm ashamed to say it's a decoration as I've only ever used it once. Don't know why because we both love paella.

Your postcards from Bridget are lovely and certainly worth framing. Has your little kitty got a name and would she answer to it anyway. She certainly seems to be very much at home under your table. Have a lovely week. Barbxx #34

    1. We call her Precious. When she was little she seemed to have such enormous eyes, her face looked like that of Gollum in Lord of the Rings, so we called her Precious. When she survived she became even more 'precious' of course in a different sense.

  14. Love those aboriginal cards, Lisca, not surprising you wanted to frame them! Kitty must think Christmas came early that you let her in the house. My son really wants a kitten, but we don't know what to do with when we are away. It would be nice though. Have you named your kitty yet? She's bound to stay now! The big dish of paella looks awesome - surely it must be in the book of records! It's humongous! I didn't know they made pans that large - it must be custom made. I really like your Spanish titbits! So intersting and educational! Have a lovely week in sunny Spain! zsuzsa @ InkyDinkyDoodle #36

Mmmm the Paella looks delicious. I love it, wish I could have had a plate myself. It's a great way of raising money.
Hope the sun shines for you this week.

  17. We just love Paella and I make it often though I'm not sure my recipe is authentic and certainly not in a pan that big. Sweet little cat at least she didn't run off. Have a great woyww and happy crafting, Angela x

  21. Beautiful postcard, Lisca, I can see why you framed it!

Our daughter rescued three cats last winter, and they still do NOT like to be picked up, but are usually quite happy to let us pet them. But they startle easily, and dash off at the slightest thing.

That is a huge dish of paella!

    Happy WOYWW!

  22. Hi Lisca, and thanks for visiting my desk. I'm an Aussie so recognized the aboriginal art work right off - great idea to frame them. Seems the cat is settling in and very happy to stay with you. A great fundraiser - but what fun to cook up that huge rice dish - yummy too I bet. Enjoy your week Cheers Robyn)#24

  26. Lovely post, Lisca. The aboriginal art cards are beautiful and look perfect in the frames. I so enjoyed the story of your sweet wee kitten - she does look very much at home now that you have let her move in with you. If she is anything like our Bonnie, she will prove to be a lovely companion. That is one massive paella and it looks delicious. What a lovely thing to do to raise funds for the little boy. Thanks for your earlier visit - always appreciated. Have a great week. Elizabeth x #56

  27. Hi Lisca. Aboriginal art is amazing. My dad spent 3 months in New Zealand and a few weeks in Australia and loved it. He brought back a didgeridoo and some other Aboriginal art. I was lucky enough to get some Aboriginal made earrings made out of clay. I hope your kitty becomes tame as it begins its life indoors. She is beautiful. I wonder how many people that large paella fed. What a wonderful fundraiser.
You being a nurse I imagine the photos of my knee did not freak you out. Stopped at the first photo! I thought it looked pretty good by that point.
Thank you for visiting me and have a wonderful weekend.
    Happy woyww.

  28. Hi, Lisca,
Belated Happy WOYWW! Thanks very much for visiting me! I think you meant my sister Patsy with her bible. This is the first time I've had a journaling bible. I'm getting used to it.
Wow, I love your paella pictures! I never thought they could cook it in a pan that big! It must be quite an experience to eat authentic paella cooked in the street! How nice that they do that for a good cause.
We have cats so of course I am always interested in cat stories!
