A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 9 July 2024 - T for straw, smoothie and a schnauzer

 Hello lovely peeps,

I have another postcard for you:

This pretty lady comes to me from Belarus. It was sent to me by Jane on the first of June and she writes: "Today is the first day of summer, 24 degrees C." She talks about her dog Roxy and adds a tiny stamp, depicting her:
I guess it's a schnauzer. (Are you seeing this Angela?)
The stamp is beautiful.
It represents the Belarusian art of straw weaving.

I found an article about Belarusian art and culture BellaBelarus and I quote the following:
Ancestors of Belarusians had been weaving from straw for thousands years. It was always interconnected with nature worship and cult of bread in particular. The golden age of straw weaving in Belarus was in 17-18th centuries. For example only in Belarus objects made of straw were used as church decor. Since 1960s Belarusian straw weaving has been on the rise again - new weaving techniques were developed and what used to be an elaborate craft has become pure fine art.

And we are honored to represent on our website such a contemporary artist, Irina Sarnatskaya, a straw-weaver from Belarus.

A friend from South Africa is staying with me and we are doing all sorts of nice things as well as eating out:
Here is my drink for Elizabeth and Bluebeard's T-Party: a beer.

Spanish ham and cheese:

Saturday night there was a street party in my neighbourhood. In fact it was behind my house. It started at 11 pm and went on all through the night (well, until 4a.m.).
We stayed until midnight.

On Sunday we went to church but before that we had a churros breakfast at a cafe in Baza, my local town.

All the photos seem to be of my friend. Well here is one of me.

Posing in a street in our village.

My friend made a healthy smoothie this morning:
Blueberries, ginger root and cumin root, and water.

I didn't like it much. I'm not a lover of ginger (although I use it in curries) but the raw ginger tasted quite hot and I think the cumin should have been cut a bit finer as there were 'lumps and pips' to negotiate. Not nice but very healthy!

Here's a smile:

That's all from me today.
It's midnight and time to post this.

Happy T-Day all!

Lisca

Straw weaving is really pretty. I haven't seen straw weaving so complex before. And wow, that is quite the party. I guess it's cooler at those hours. It would be fun though. It makes a fun T day post. I hope you have a super T day and week ahead. hugs-Erika

Beautiful card and that stamp!!! Owww, cute.
So sad "Russia" is so bad in our news - the real people are nice people and great you show this.
Cheers to your drink :-)
And great to see the two of you.
Wonderful super-power, too. Mine went into pizza-sauce.
Happy T-Day!

We do something similar here with wheat. It's called wheat weaving and can be simple or complex. I should show you some of what I have made in the past. Mine is not that complex.

It looks like you and your friend are having a wonderful time together. You certainly know how to eat well!!! I would help you with the breakfast churros, but you can have that smoothie. Thanks for sharing your beer, your friend's water, and her smoothie with us for T this Tuesday, dear Lisca.

Hi Lisca! You have been having fun, that's great! Churros, yes please. My super power is usually drinking coffee, but at the moment I am limited to one cup a day! Happy T day, hugs, Valerie

Dear Lisca,
the postcard is fabulously beautiful - and very interesting the Belarusian art of straw weaving. I think our Christmas stars are made in a similar way, but are much less artistic. How wonderful that you have a visit from your friend from South Africa! And I see that you are enjoying the time together with all your heart - it's perfect. As far as the smoothie goes, I'm like you - I only like ginger in small amounts in Asian food, but the taste is sometimes too spicy for me. As far as wine goes, I have similar superpowers like you ;-))
All the best and happy T-Day, Traude
