A Postcard A Daay - Tuesday 20 May 2025 - T foir Tragopan, scallops and vultures

 Hello lovely peeps,

Today we are meeting again at the T-Party hosted by Elizabeth and Bluebeard. I have brought a drink and you will see what that is later.

First off my postcard, which comes all the way from India:

The sender doesn't give his/her name, but it was posted in Bangalore. It is a Maxi-card. A card with a stamp on the front with the same image or subject as the main image. The bird in the main image is a Western Tragopan. It is a type of pheasant.
Wikipedia writes:
The western tragopan  is a medium-sized brightly plumed pheasant found along the range of Himalayas from north-eastern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northern Pakistan in the west to Uttarakhand within India to the east. The species is highly endangered and globally threatened.

It inhabits upper temperate forests between 2,400 and 3,600 m in summer, and in winter, dense coniferous and broad-leaved forests between 2,000 and 2,800 m elevations. The western tragopan is mostly arboreal but feeds on the ground. They feed mostly on leaves, shoots and seeds, but also consume insects and other invertebrates. Like most pheasants, they roost in trees singly or in pairs except during nesting.

The stamp on the address side features Mahatma Ghandi.

"Ahimsa Parmo Dharma" is a Sanskrit phrase meaning "Non-violence is the highest dharma," or "Non-violence is the ultimate duty." It is a foundational concept in many Eastern philosophies, particularly Hinduism and Jainism.
Ahimsa means non-violence, "parmo" means supreme or ultimate, and "dharma" refers to duty, righteousness, or moral law. Essentially, it emphasizes that non-violence should be the primary principle guiding one's actions and interactions with the world.

Ghandi of course made this principle famous outside India.

Now, what has been going on here? Nothing much.
I have been out with my lovely lodger. He is going to work abroad and he invited me out
for a meal before leaving.
He asked me where I would like to go and I mentioned a
small fish restaurant in town.

During the day it is a fish mongers and in the evening
it's a restaurant.
Here is also my drink. I'm having white wine and my
companion is drinking beer.

We had calamaris and scallops, and (not in the photo)
later we had tuna tartar (raw tuna).

I go to Pilates Monday through to Thursday. On Friday
I do archery. So, you see I keep
myself busy. When I came home this morning I spotted
a large group of Griffin vultures
gliding over my house. They are notoriously difficult
to photograph in spite
of being so large. But I got one or two on my phone:
There were eleven! They are in search of carrion
and just circle for a bit and then
move on. By the time I got my phono out they were
moving on.
Here are some more: (More difficult to see):
There are three on the left and one in the top right
corner.

That was my bit of excitement for the week.

I hope to see you all at Elizabeth and Bluebeard's

Happy T-Day!

Lisca

I had heard the term Jainism before, so thanks for teaching me something new. And your fish meal looks delicious. It's so interesting how the fish market becomes a restaurant in the evening. I guess you know the fish is very fresh. Will you get a new renter above you once your current renter leaves? Have a super T day and week ahead Lisca. hugs-Erika

Interesting about the bird. Well, Ghandi.... if only more people´d listened, understood and carried it on...
I try to...
"Mimimi" to fish, LOL. Do you know how lucky you are you like this? My Mum came from the coast, but I got my Dad´s genes... Show me a fish, I run.
It is so healthy!!!!! The fish. But... ack! I would need a LOT of beer ;-) And wine (kidding).
We have but doves here...
Happy T-Day!

What a different postcard you shared this week. Unlike Erika, I had never heard of Jainism before. As I've said before, I learn something new each T Tuesday.

I was just telling my friend Joseph yesterday I do NOT like raw tuna. Sorry. I'll leave that to you. At least you know the fish is fresh.

Goodness those vultures are large. You did a good job with your phone.

Thanks for sharing your postcard, the vultures, your meal, and your wine and beer with us for T this Tuesday, dear Lisca.
