A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 11 January 2022 - T for cup cakes, canvas and wasps

 Hello lovely ladies,

I'm going to be very naughty and present you with a postcard of a cup cake now that everyone is trying to lose weight! It's only a paper cup cake so you won't put on weight with this one.  

It comes from Switzerland. The sender is Myriam and she lives near Fribourg at the language barrier French/German:

Fribourg is the capital of the Swiss canton of Fribourg and district of La Sarine. Located on both sides of the river Saane/Sarine, on the Swiss Plateau, it is is a major economic, administrative and educational centre on the cultural border between German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland. Its Old City, one of the best-maintained in Switzerland, sits on a small rocky hill above the valley of the Sarine. In 2018, it had a population of 38,365.

The stamps are interesting. The one on the right is a piece of canvas. It's not visible on the photo, but it is just a piece of fabric printed with Helvetia on it.

It is called: A Blank Canvas:

Canvas is the classic backcloth for paintings and, as such, has come to symbolize art in general. Because it’s blank, it represents art not yet created – perhaps due to a lack of funding. Swiss Post has been promoting and collecting contemporary art since 1924. The collection that it has put together comprises around 400 works and a nationwide portfolio of art in architecture pieces.

Switzerland has never had a stamp made purely of canvas before. That’s why a 'making-of film' was also produced for this very special stamp. (Have a look at the link).

The second stamp features the railway station of Fleurier:

Fleurier is a village situated between Lake Neuchatel and the French border. It is famous for its  watchmaking .

Today is Elizabeth and Bluebeard's T-Party, when we say hello to all the other lovely ladies, and bring along a beverage. 

My beverages are more than one usually. 

This first one is my coffee. I suppose that could pass as a cappuccino and there is a slice of cake. We always have a slice of cake as I love to bake.

The second beverage is a glass of red wine that I had with a piece of quiche the other day. The quiche had just come out of the oven so it is still a bit 'puffed'. 

Now that Three Kings has been and gone, I have taken down all the decorations. The house looks ever so bare now. 

When I put away my Christmas cards I  realized I didn't show anyone my cards. Let's do that right now:

This one you will have seen already on other blog posts. It is the beautiful card from Kathy (in Ozark). It is stamped beautifully in gold.

This one is precious, as it is a drawing made by one of our grandchildren and made into a card:

This one came from my mum. No, she didn't make this herself, but her next door neighbor makes these. 

I think it's gorgeous. Next time I visit mum, I'll go and see this lady and see how she does this. 

The olive harvest is over now. The two processing plants in our village are still working day and night but that will stop sometime this week as the last stragglers have brought in their olives. It does mean that there are 'mountains' of pips, which get discarded after the process. Most people in our village have biomass burners. We have a stove that burns pips, crushed almond shells, pellets etc. My husband went to buy pips together with our friends:

To get the best price, you have to bring your own bags and fill them yourself. Depending on the size of the bag, we pay 2 or 3 euros. Our friends' daughter had great fun, as did the puppy (who is the same colour as the pips, and he's probably in the picture somewhere, but I can't spot him.)

Before I go, I wanted to show you what I found on a plant leaf the other day:

It is a small paper wasp's nest.

Paper wasps are vespid wasps that gather fibers from dead wood and plant stems, which they mix with saliva, and use to construct nests made of gray or brown papery material
