A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 17 August - T for Egyptians and Indians

 

Good Morning lovely ladies,

Are you all ready for the T-Party. You only need to show us a drink or a drink related image.

That's not difficult for me and you will see my contribution a bit further down.

I'd like to start with my postcards. I received some unusual ones lately. Like this one from Germany. 

The info on the card reads: "Glazed steatite cylinder seal of Queen Nofrusobek, 12th dynasty, c. 1799-1795 BC, probably Fayum, Egypt. British Museum Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan."

As usual I immediately went to look up more info on the internet. But there was disappointingly little. I found this:

"Neferusobek was forced to assume a power that was apparently not initially previewed for her. Her sister, Neferuptah, was her father's favourite in succession, but an early death prevented her to rule. The half-brother/husband, Amenemhat IV succeeded his father, most likely, against his desire and died during the course of his reign. With no viable solution in sight, Neferusobek was eventually forced to assume the succession because there was no one else to control, or at least to postpone, the impending turmoil, especially with the massive emergence of the Hyksos into the Delta: the Second Intermediate Period with the XIIIth (?), XIVth, XVth, XVIth and XVIIth Dynasties, some of them simultaneous. That is probably the reason why she was so welcomed (and consented) by her contemporaries! Maybe even desired."

It is an abstract from an academic paper by a chap called Telo Canhão from the university of Lisbon.

It has four different 'sides', so there are four different images. You can see them to the right of the photos.

They have found a (damaged) statue of the female pharaoh:

Apart from this I haven't found any info. 

The second card also has symbols on it. This time from another continent:

The info on the card reads:

"The earliest writings of the American Indians were those of signs and symbols. These symbols are always apparent in their handicraft and jewelry."

I love American Indian jewelry with symbols on them:

When European explorers arrived in America, Native Americans did not communicate through writing as we know it. Instead, they told stories (oral histories) and created pictures and symbols. This type of communication is not unique to Native Americans, as long before writing was developed, people around the world recorded events, ideas, plans, maps, and feelings by drawing pictures and symbols on rocks, hides, and other surfaces.

Longfellow wrote in his Song Of Hiawatha:

                      For the earth he drew a straight line, 

                    For the sky a bow above it; 

White the space between for day-time, 

Filled with little stars for night-time; 

On the left a point for sunrise, 

On the right a point for sunset, 

On the top a point for noontide, 

And for rain and cloudy weather 

Waving lines descending from it.

The stamps on this cards are lovely. There is a stamp from Starwars.

In fact there is a whole series of stamps from Starwars! Look at them! Starwars fans eat your heart out!

The other 'Forever' stamp is a Celebrations stamp. There are more. I found images of two more:

Enough about stamps. Lets get to the party. The famous T-party hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. This is my qualifier: 

A lovely coffee I had after we had been for a hospital appointment. We always treat ourselves at a nearby bar to something nice.

We're busy at the moment enjoying a visit from the grandchildren (and their mother of course). Here is hubby cooking breakfast:

Our neighbour has a swimming pool in the campo a few minutes walk from our house. He is an absent house owner so we are custodians of the estate (quite big) and the pool. We don't care for a pool much, perhaps if it was next to the house we would use it in this present heatwave.  But we fill it when there are guests.

I'm going to leave it at the and prepare the BBQ we have planned.
