A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 31 December 2019 - T for Happy New Year!

Hello lovely people,
Today is the last day of the the year 2019 and we will be entering the 'roaring twenties'. Well nobody knows whether they will be roaring, but every new year starts with hope and good intentions.

I am joining Elizabeth and Bleubeard's T-Party. My qualifier is the 2020 in coffee beans above, but there might be some other drink references or photos in this blos post.

Lets start with my postcards. The first one comes from Japan.

It features Soba, Japanese buckwheat noodles. The stamps are pretty especially the ducks. But I have no idea what the interior is supposed to mean/commemorate:
My next card comes from Russia and is a vintage view of St Petersburg. It shows the Yekaterininsky Canal from the Kazan Bridge  towards the Cathedral of the resurrection of Christ (1913).

Sofia, (who sent the card) from St Petersburg, loves her city and thinks it hasn't changed much since the beginning of the century. I found some photos on the internet of the same spot (a typical touristic view)
I think Sofia is right. It doesn't look as if it has changed much.

I'm still in Holland, staying with my mum in Rotterdam (the Netherlands). She has a lovely appartment on the 5th floor in this building.

The entrance hall is very pretty and there is a huge photo of the main church in Rotterdam. This church was the only thing standing after the city was bombed comletely during WWII.

So it has been through a lot, but it's still standing. The same can be said of the people living in my mother's building: they are all seniors that have undoubtedly been through a lot.
I enjoy cooking for mum. This is one of the weekday meals I concocted. You can see seasoned minced meat in puff pastry, and carrots in smoked bacon and herby potatoes in the oven. It was very nice.
Yesterday we spent the day in Utrecht, a city in the centre of the Netherlands. It is a beautiful city, a bit like Amsterdam but with less tourists. I will show you where we went some other time, but today I just want to show you a typically Dutch scene:
The rubbish being collected by barge along the city canals.
This next photo is also typically Dutch: bicycles parked outside the Railway Museum:
Children are being transported in these wooden carriers. I couldn't take pictures of the children, but it was really fun to watch.
We treated ourselves to a traditional Dutch food: Poffertjes. They are little mini soft, buttery pancakes.
Here is me enjoying this plate full of yumminess!
And last but not least, I have a photo especially for Elizabeth. Inside the museum there were lots of attractions including a ice skating rink and an old fashioned carousel!
I'm sorry it is such a bad photo. I was standing on an old locomotive and couldn't get enough distance.

That is it from me today. All is left for me (and mum and hubby) to wish you all a very healthy and happy if not roaring 2020!
Cheers!!

Hi Lisca, so nice of you and your husband being able to spend time with your Mum, we had some dear friends from Holland that lived in the usa for awhile they were white tiger breeders and trainers.
I enjoyed all the photos, those little pancakes looked good and your meal sounds delicious too.
Cheers to all of you-a Happy T and Happy New Year's Eve hugs Kathy

It is wonderful to see these photos of Rotterdam Lisca. Wow, there wasn't much left standing after the war, but I wonder if you can even tell that now. I bet not. I bet your Mom is happy to have you there, and you get to ring in 2020 with her. Wishing you both a happy T day and happy new year too. Hugs-Erika

So glad to see you and your mother are doing so well. I remember last year when you were so sick when you visited her.

Lovely postcards this week. You are so lucky to get such pretty ones. Moscow is beautiful, whether it is day or night. Red Square is so iconic, too.

Utrecht sounded familiar. Have you taken us there before? I loved the bikes and how the parents carry their children. Really unique.

Oh Lisca, I love the carousel. It is beautiful and I am thrilled you thought of me when you saw it. Thank you. You made my day. I'd like to also wish YOU (along with your mother and husband) a very happy, safe, and healthy New Year, too. Enjoy your time in The Netherlands, dear.

That is very well said, hope and good intentions, I do have!
Wow, that house is just plain beautiful! A sad pic with it standing by itself...
Carrots in smoked bacon, not THAT is an idea!!!! Hmmm-yum,, now I´m nearly tempted to you buy some (but the shops close in 22 minutes for the year).
I´ll keep that in mind! (The bacon)
Yes, all those bicycles! Here it´s a pest. I was both cyclist and car-driver, hence (or cause I can think) I always trid to drive carefully. Too many: No lights, no helmet, dark clothes, wrong direction, high speed. Horrible.
Poffertjes you find here, too, on every street festival (but I´m not into sweets).
Oh! Happy smiles :-) Love your pic (I hate mine being taken).
Chhers, to a very happy and healthy 2020! Happy T-day and hugs

It looks like your mom's apartment has great light and big windows, which is really the main thing I'd want :) I'm enjoying seeing your city scene photos, so different from what you see here. Cool! I lift my glass to join your toast. May the New Year be bright for you and yours. Happy T Tuesday!

What a lovely post, Lisca, from beginning to end. That's a great T graphic for 2020. Your postcards are fabulous. The city of St. Petersburg is truly beautiful - then and now. The photo of Rotterdam after WWII is shocking. How interesting that only the cathedral was left standing.

Thank you for the mini-tour of where your mom lives and the surrounding area. It's looks very nice.

I'm smiling back at you all as I wish you a very Happy New Year!

Happy T-day too! Eileen xx

Seeing your photos makes me want to visit Holland again! Rotterdam really did suffer some terrible bombing so great to see that the tower survived! You certainly got to see some lovely sight! Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx
