A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 7 May 2019 - T for gold mine and paella plus another flower

Good morning lovely ladies,
Here we are again to join the T-Party organized by Elizabeth and Bluebeard. I am starting this blog with a strong cup of coffee, so that is my entry to the T-Party.

I'm going to show you two more postcards. The first one comes from Australia and features the Super Pit Gold Mine in Kalgoorlie. What a huge mine! I bet it is visible from space. I'd like to know what they will do with the mine once it is finished. In other countries they flood it so a lake is created, but I'm not sure this is in a part of
Australia where there is water. I have been told that they are mining at a depth of 700 m and they will keep going until they reach 900 m.
The second card comes from Germany. I really like this one. It is a black and white photo of a scene from the film Wilder Urlaub (1943). I couldn't find much about the film (although I do read German). This is what I found about the plot:
A young soldier in an army camp near a small Swiss village gets into an argument with his sergeant, which winds up in a fight. The soldier, believing he has killed the sergeant, flees to Zurich, determined to disguise himself and cross the border into France. However, things don't work out quite as he had planned.
The stamps are very nice too. I especially like the one on the right because it is about the Bauhaus art style and I like that.
There is a bar/pub in Rotterdam built in that style:

I remember it well from my student days. This is what it looked like in 1924:
I love it!

Well, my succulent has just had another baby! The old flower has died and another one popped up and all of a sudden I had another flower!
And there is another bud growing. (But you can't see it in the photo)
Sunday we went to a different church as we had visitors. This church has many foreign worshippers and there is an English translator. As it happens it was Mother's Day in Spain and the men had cooked a huge paella and invited the whole congregation to the meal. They had laid the table beautifully:
And they served everyone. It was delicious!
Hubby has been working hard as usual. We have had the sunshade put up and the poor chap who came to install it, had to contend with hubby's scaffolding, as hubby needed to repair a crack and paint it. Yes, he was wearing a harnas but I am glad I didn't have to watch him do it. Brrr!
On Saturday evening, we walked past the park behind our house and heard music. There were two choirs all dressed in traditional dress, singing.
These ladies were from the second choir and they are local because the lady on the left goes to the gym with me. I love to see ladies dressed like that.

That is it from me. We are going on holiday on Thursday (to Italy to see my son and fam) so I am warning that I can't do much from my tablet. I will try to upload a few postcards onto Blogger in advance, and then for two weeks you will have to contend with a meagre blog post from me.

Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca

  1. I love the coffee card at the top of the post. Such a pretty cup and saucer and then with a piece of chocolate and a rose! Sweet! The architecture comparisons are interesting. Around here so much gets torn down that comparisons like that are impossible :( It's nice to see people value the history :) The church sounds like a good choice for your English-speaking guests, and what a generous congregation! That scaffold looks intimidating! Glad to hear he had on a harness. The dresses those choir people are wearing are delightful to see. It'd be fun to come across choral groups in the park. Happy T Day!

  4. Wow that is a huge paella. I wonder how many people that can feed. It is great to see that the pub hasn't changed in all those years. Wouldn't it be interesting to time travel back to 1924 and go inside to see what it is like. And those ladies are truly pretty in their lovely dresses. Hope it is a fabulous T day Lisca. hugs-Erika

  5. Oh my, your hubby was sooooooooooo brave to go up that scaffolding, even with a harness, it looks so high! Great postcards, and lovely stamps. Bauhaus architecture is always very pleasing to the eye, there are several lovely buildings around here from that era. And that paella - I am hungry just thinking of it. Those ladies look gorgeous. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  6. My sincere apologies. I'm leaving this message for everyone. I had to take my friend Sally to the emergency room Monday afternoon. I stayed with her until the ER doctors ran several tests, then admitted her to the hospital. When I got home, I found my basement was flooded from the many rounds of rain we are having. I'm still getting water out because I have no sump pump. I'll be back by to share T just as soon as I have the water under control, because I don't want mold to set in. For those of you who may not know, Twin Peaks is a sports bar that specializes in busty young, scantily clad female servers.

  7. I like the smell of coffee, but not the taste. I'll just help myself to one of the chocolates. The colors on the mining postcard are gorgeous. Your plants look gorgeous. Those flowers would make pretty hair accessories to go with the traditional costumes. Happy T Day

  8. A post full of interesting photos Lisca. The postcards look lovely and I liked seeing the older pictures as well.
The Sunday church visit and the meal afterwards sounds like a super way to spend Sundays.
Your husband was brave to go up the scaffold, I wouldn't have been able to watch.
Have a good holiday with your family.
    Happy T day wishes.

I wouldn't be brave enough to go up that scaffolding and I definately wouldn't be able to watch my hubby attempt it either (grin!). Enjoy your travels and Happy T Day! J 😊 x

  11. When I see that picture of the gold mine all I can think is WOW! What a stunning picture.
The Paella look so yummy! I have never had it but I always love seeing the pictures that you post. I think my favorite part is seeing the presentation in that huge pan. I have never seen one so big.
What colorful dresses that choir wears. I would love to wear something like that to choir.
Your succulent looks so very healthy and those blooms are unusual and lovely.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  13. Your language skills amaze me, Lisca. 23 years in Mexico and I speak Spanish but not fluently. I still think in English at times. I've been told you must think in the language you're speaking in order to become fluent.

    Very interesting postcards this week.

The guys organized, cooked and set the table? Wow! That's very special. Beautiful flamenco-style dresses. What a treat to see and hear the ladies sing.

Since Mother's Day is May 10th in Mexico and May 12th this year in the U.S., I don't think I'm too late to wish you a Happy Mother's Day. Have a wonderful holiday!

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx

  17. Wonderful post cards you shared with us this week, Lisca. I love them both and really enjoyed the Bauhaus style, one that I was truly unfamiliar with.

Speaking of postcards, guess who I got one from!! Thank you SO much. I will share it with everyone next Tuesday for T.

Hope you had a lovely Mother's Day. The paella looks wonderful and the men seemed happy to be cooking it, too.

Thanks for sharing your coffee card, your postcards, your Mother's Day, and that great new flower on your succulent with us for T this week. Again, thanks for the postcard and I hope you will at least be able to see it when you are on holiday.
