WOYWW 306 plus Flamenco, jigsaw puzzles and Dutch bikes

Feliz miercoles! (means: happy Wednesday!)

I’m happy because I get to peep at the desks of all my friends in blogland. If you have no idea what I am talking about, visit Julie at her blog. She is desk hopper supreme at http://www.stamping-ground.blogspot.com.es/

I'm a bit  late today as this morning I had to go to the hospital for a mammogram, ultrasound and various Xrays. I had cancer a few years ago and this is part of my regular check up. I pray that all is well.

Here is my desk.

I have made an effort to write words in the picture. I have PSE (Adobi Photoshoop Elements, an older version) and I never use it because it is quite a learning curve. I am determined to learn how to use it. I have promised myself that if I do, I will allow myself to buy the latest version.
So on my desk is a scrapbook page in the making. I’m doing CSI challenge 160 (http://csicolorstoriesinspiration.ning.com/) and the colour palette is perfect for those photos  I have of our trip to Valencia in December. There is the washi tape I bought at Lidls not long ago, and a strip of chevrons that I made from a die and used as a template, which I used with acrylic paste to give the page some texture. The doodle is an attempt to draw an owl (not very successfully...)

I have a confession to make: I love doing jigsaw puzzles! Yes, I know, very sad indeed. But I have always liked doing them and in my working life there was never time. I was looking forward to retirement because I would have time to do puzzles. I have quite a collection and I have got them out of the cupboard and doing them again. This one (from the Buried Blueprints collection) I finished this week and alas: there are three pieces missing! How frustrating!

I have gotten in the habit of showing a postcard. Last week I didn’t and I have got asked where the postcard was, so OK, today there is a postcard. I thought I’d show you one of the cards I send rather than one I received. This is a gypsy girl dancing flamenco. I love black and white photos and this girl is so expressive in her pose. Flamenco is the dance typical of this region. Whenever there is a celebration, local ladies will dress up in those typical flamenco dresses and dance impromptu.

To finish this page I am showing you a photo of my mum when she was young. (she is now in her nineties and living independently) Here she is on the left in 1939 on one of those famous Dutch ‘sit-up-and-beg’ bikes. Isn’t that a brilliant photo! I love it!

That’s it for this week. Thanks everybody for your kind comments last week. I will try and visit as many of you as I can in the course of the week.

God bless all of you,

Lisca

  5. Hi, Lisca. Great looking stuff happening on your desk. It's funny how one item seems to catch a visitor's attention. For me, it was the cup of tea. {smile} Now you have reminded me that I have not yet booked my mammogram in spite of two mailed reminders. Arrrrgh! Better go do that now! Have a great week and good luck with your tests. Nann4 # 48

  8. First of all, hope your results are good ones. Good luck with your computer studies, I wish I had learned to use that program but I haven't. I don't think it is sad to do jigsaws, I don't have the patience for them except quick ones on my computer.

  14. Hope all the tests come back good for you. It is always frightening to go to the doctor after having cancer. Love the promise you made to yourself. I am always doing that so that I get things done. Funny when you have to bribe yourself. I love Spain, the colors, feel, smells, and tastes. I may be going to Palma de Mallorca in the fall. Not for sure yet. Thanks for stopping by my desk earlier. Vickie #8

    1. Mallorca is an island in the Mediterranean, belonging to Spain. It's very touristy on the coast but the weather is lovely. Inland Mallorca is hilly and has lush vegetation.

  15. Hi Lisca thanks for the visit and your kind comments. I noticed you mentioned about the labelling you have done on your phograph. I use Picasa3 which is a free program and it's very easy to use too, don't know if it would be any use to you. Busy desk and love your postcards. Hope you have a great woyww, Angela x36x

We have Lidl, so must have a look for the Washi Tape.

What a shame you had three pieces missing for that jigsaw.

Loving the postcard and the photo of your mum. I have a photo of my mum as a young woman riding her bike.

  22. My DH is crazy about puzzles too. Since he is on leave from work during chemo treatment..he has been doing a lot of them but he never wants to break them back down into the boxes! So they lay around on various tables in the house for weeks lol. Thanks for stopping by my desk earlier :) Shel@PaperOcotilloStudio #17

  23. I agree I love the palette you will be working with. I don't do puzzles but my current addiction is City Island 3 an android building game. It is great to play for a couple of minutes while you let the background dry. ha ha ha

  25. Hello Lisca. I am sorry I am late with my reply - I ran out of time with all preparations for class. Hope that all your results are good! I have a mammogram next week - just routine one. How lovely it would be for you to come to a class. Sadly my next will be at end of May and a Saturday. I have a lot of other commitments next month and am struggling for time. How often do you come over? Maybe next time I could arrange something. Thanks for visiting. Anne x # 9

  29. I, too, love doing jigsaw puzzles and I still have an unopened box that I haven't started (I need a safe place where I can leave a jigsaw puzzle in progress so that I won't have missing pieces) So frustrating to have missing pieces!

    Thank you for visiting me.
    Happy WOYWW!

  30. I love the old black and white photo of your Mum. It captures a "moment", doesn't it?
Don't you just love washi tape? I have far too much of it :)
I must try and figure out how you do those labels on your photos.
Have a good week and thanks for dropping by earlier too. And I do hope all the results are good.

  31. What a lovely varied post, Lisca. I love the old photo of your mum - that bike is a classic! Love the jigsaw but it does look difficult. I hope your cancer tests come back clear. I've got my regular mammogram this p.m. - part of the national screening programme. Last time I was called back for a biopsy but it turned out to be only a benign fibrous cyst. If anything shows up this time, after everything else I've been through recently, I'll do my nut!!!

Thank you for such a lovely comment on my blog. So glad you enjoyed reading about my experiences in hospital. I really did think they were pulling my leg about the Bristol Stool Chart - tooooo funny! As for the chemo, well, I don't have any choice if I'm going to be sensible, so I've just got to get on with it, and remind myself that it's only temporary and will soon be over!

  32. Hi Lisca,

It's interesting that you mention jigsaw puzzles. I was just thinking last week how I'd love to start doing them. Then I looked around my house and wondered where I'd manage to keep one set up! Love the gypsie girl! The photo of your mom is great, love the bike too.

    Thanks for visiting me already.
    Happy belated WOYWW
    Peace,

I hope your tests come back good, with no issues.

  34. I love jigsaw puzzles, we used to do them loads as a family, and Dad and I would always stay up late trying to finish them when i went to stay after I left home. We turned out loads when we cleared the house... ah, fond memories! Hope your results come back OK. Hugs, Helen 5 (sorry I'm so late!)

  35. wow what a fabulous post ... love all those vintage photos and wow what a large zigsaw .. well done , pity about the missing pieces ... beautiful post x

  36. Ooohhh, am I late visiting your desk! But I'm here now, admiring everything you show. I write a lot on my photos (with a marker, yep. It takes a bit of courage though...) and if you do it with photoshop or handwriting, it always adds something special to the picture! The flamenco girl is awesome and oh yes, I remember those bikes (my grandma and her sister both had bikes like that and they ride to the city on it even when they were very old. My grand-aunt used the bike as an 'rollator' to strawl the market place and buy vegetables - she needed the bike for balance and they hadn't rollators in those times... Oops, this is becoming a long comment. I wish you a happy, sunny day (and good news from the hospital!!! ) Happy (much belated) woyww and a hug from Holland, Marit #27

  37. I have zero patience for jigsaws - my Mum was whiz at them though. I have a framed mosaic type one at the top of my stairs, a lion made up of tiny pictures of big cats, it was the last Christmas pressie she gave me and I treasure it. I have fond memories of her doing her jigsaws - woe betide ANYONE who dared move it or attempt to put in a piece or two - she always knew ;)

Thanks for coming to see me already :)
