WOYWW 303 - The Beatles, Marimekko and Banksy street art

The Beatles, Marimekko and Banksy street art

When I get older, losing my hair, many years from now.              Will you still be sending me a valentine, birthday greeting, bottle of wine?
If I’d been out to a quarter to three, would you lock the door?       Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I’m sixty-four?

Who remembers this old Beatles song “When I’m sixty-four”? I certainly do and that gives away my age too.... Mmmm, Monday was my birthday.... and yes, you’ve guessed it: I’m now sixty four!

I’ve been ill in bed with a nasty flu all week but Monday I felt better and my lovely hubby took me out to lunch and generally spoilt me as only he can. I must have done too much, too early because yesterday I was back to square one! Feeling lousy and spending the day in the recliner in front of the fire. Needless to say my desk is a non starter. So this is what my desk looks like:

I'm in the process of making a scrapbook page for the CSI challenge but the way I'm feeling now I won't get it done before the deadline tomorrow...

Yesterday I have been making some backgrounds by tearing napkins and sticking them with ModPodge. Here is a bright one I did with a Marimekko design my D-I-L gave me (Marimekko is from Finland).

This is one I did with a napkin that has been on the bottom of my bag for a while. I love the colors. (It's the one on my desk)

Sorry for the bad quality photos. I didn't have my camera at hand, so I used my tablet.

I received ten postcards this week through www.postcrossing.com and my favorite is this one, sent to me from Germany.

It is street art by grafitty artist Banksy from Bristol. I have lived in Bristol (UK) for 22 years and have grown to love the quirky and sometimes disturbing art in the city. This particular painting is not in Bristol but in New Orleans of all places. Still, the Banksy style is very recognisable.

If you are wondering what WOYWW stands for: it means What’s on your workdesk Wednesday. We all do a bit of desk hopping to see each other’s desks and be inspired by other people’s projects, get ideas, and make friends. It’s great fun! Go to Julia’s blog if you want to know more: http://www.stamping-ground.blogspot.com.es/

That’s it folks. I’m going back to my recliner and I’ll try and visit as many as I can on my tablet from the comfort of my chair. Have a good week all of you!

Lisca

I do love me some Banksy :) Always astonished when I read one of his pieces has been scrubbed away, or otherwise removed. There is a site where you can download digital images of the pieces, and maybe a dingbat font too, if you like the style and want to bring it to YOUR art. I also have a book that has a stencil of his in it - I've used it a few times.

Happy Birthday (a bit late) and enjoy your recliner.
Happy WOYWW day!

Happy belated birthday - I remember that song well, and thinking when I first heard it as a young girl that 64 seemed many lifetimes away! I love the effects you are getting with the paper napkins, the pink and yellow is so pretty and summery. Hope you feel better soon,

Happy belated birthday, I sang that to my husband in January, he was sixty four.
Hope you've had better weather than we have in Murcia this last week, we are all stir crazy. I'm pleased I'm not the only one who saves napkins, the thing is I never do anything with them!

Well Lisca, in a couple of weeks we will be the same age. HH and I just celebrated a wedding anniversary too . I can't believe how long we have been married and how old we are. In my head I feel young, but my body tells my brain that it lies! I love the napkin page because it's blue. Anything blue always grabs my eyeballs first. It's a lovely page. I hope that you get over your cold this week and get back to crafting. Kudos to your hubby for spoiling you some. Have a better week. Nann4 #49

Belated Happy Birthday greetings, Lisca! Sorry you have been ill, it seems like many of us are down with this particular bug at the moment.Love the napkin art, and the Banksy. Funnily enough, I saw a range of rubber stamps featuring his artwork at the NEC! Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #7 xxx

So happy you were feeling well enough to get out and celebrate this awesome birthday! I too enjoy using napkins as a background. The bright colored flowers make a colorful background. Thank you for stopping by my blog. A rolo is a card used in a now extinct Rolodex which sat on folk's desk, each card with an address.

Happy Birthday. I do know the song but I don't 'remember it'. I love the banksy postcard too, and that napkin has lovely colours.
Thanks for visiting. I had a great pottery session thanks. We should pick up our pieces in a few weeks. I've posted about it but not much to see really.
Back to quilting tomorrow. Wonder what we will do,

Happy 64th, Lisca! Love the association with the Beatles song! Sorry to hear you got flu and then having a relapse from doing too much - that sounds all too familiar with me! I love the napkin backgrounds. I have done something similar with inked kitchen paper (some on my blog header - can you spot it?) Thank you for your wonderful comment, and I am so glad you like my new blog - you are the first follower and the first to comment! I hope there will be lots on there in the months to come. Thank you for your good wishes for Friday. As far as I know, Shaz and I are the only bag ladies on WOYWW - at least, I'm not quite one yet, but less than 48 hours to go, all being well! The butterflies remain mostly dormant for now, but I don't expect that to last as Friday afternoon looms ever closer!!

Happy WOYWW,

(belated) Congrats on your birthday Lisca! Oh yes, I know that song - it is stuck in my head now ;) I bought the same template as the one on your desk a couple of weeks ago, it is already my favorite! I hope you feel better by now, 'flu is in the air' as a lot of my friends and family have it... but it seems you have enough napkins to survive LOL Thanks for your visit earlier, happy woyww and a hug from Holland, Marit #45

Hello Lisca. I do hope you are feeling a lot better by now. Hmm - yes, I reached that particular landmark last September! It even got announced in church of all places!!!!! Much to the amusement of the regulars, and horror of the visitors!
What a lovely page background you have made with that paper serviette.
Thanks for visiting, and, yes, it was indeed a Christmas stamp - and a Christmas die. I've to make over 300 cards - so will need to crack on soon!
Take care. God bless.

Had we been in the UK, our vicar would have got me to the front and announced it. He had a habit of doing that. (He did know that we didn't mind though...)

Lisca said...

Yes, you hit the nail on the head Robyn! I was loathe to cover it with gesso like I know I should have.... So I only put a little bit on so I can still see the back ground. Same with book pages. I love those and don't want to cover them! Silly, I know!
