WOYWW-289 weddings and funerals

WOYWW-289
“What’s on your workdesk? Wednesday”

Hi Deskhoppers,
Thank you for visiting my desk again this week. I must apologise for not visiting many of you this past week but we have had the devastating news of the death of one of our grandchildren and we are still reeling from the shock and very understandibly not in the mood for anything really. Our son and D-i-L in the UK are finding strength in their faith and are getting a lot of support from their pastor and church friends.  The same goes for us. Our church friends are wonderful.

This is what’s on my desk at the moment.

It’s the beginning of a large wedding card. One of our young friends in church is getting married this Saturday and I’m preparing a pressie and a card. I’m struggling a bit to concentrate on a wedding but ‘life goes on’ as they say. The lace is a roll of Scotch tape that I bought at Lidl’s (European supermarket) last week. I found some rub-ons in a box that were many years old and sometimes rub-ons don’t ‘come off’ when they’re old, but I held my breath... and they did!
Here is another photo of the card. (The front)

This box on my desk I also bought at Lidl’s on the same day as the Scotch tape. It’s a rhinestone applicator. I haven’t played with it yet but when things are back to normal I will.

We are decorating the church for the wedding and as it’s Christmas we thought we’d make these paper stars which are so easy and cheap to make, and non-crafters can cope with that. One of my friends came to keep me company and we made quite a few stars. I think they're great! (This is my friend from Peru. Sorry for the bad focus)
No news on the house build front. We have finished the roof completely and the builder is doing the main stairs as it’s too cold to work outside. (We’re having a cold spell). I’ll post more photos when there is more to see.

That’s it for today. I can’t promise, but I’ll try to visit as many of you as I can. God bless you all and give your grand children an extra hug today if you can.

Lisca

  5. What a horrible piece of news, Lisca. Lots of hugs from the UK. Nothing helps much right now, but it's good you have the wedding to focus on - I love the stars. Prayers and blessings for you and the family, Chris # 8

  7. Oh how sad and shocking for you all. Having been where your DIL is, I know just how badly it knocks you. Lucky she has her faith and her friends to support her. Make sure you get some support as well. Being so far away must be hard as well. Focusing on the wedding will help - and the stars are looking lovely for sure. It's a striking coincidence, as there is a Shakespeare quote, one that came to me when our son died, in a card from a distant relative, that goes

    When he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.

    be strong

    1. Aww, thank you for that little poem. I hadn't 'connected' the stars. Thank you also for sharing that you have been through that pain too.
I'll continue to make stars and think of my little granddaughter.

  8. OMG Lisca! I thought my heart would stand still, when I read your blog. I feel so sorry, you must be terribly sad! I would like to hug you and give you strength for the following days. It is good you have a friend as company and can do some crafting. That always is kind of soothing. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

  9. I'm so very sorry to hear about your grandchild, Lisca! I don't know what to say! My heart goes out to the parents, you and your family - it's just too shocking and I can't believe it. I don't want to believe it! I had to read it twice to make sure I didn't get it wrong. Losing my child is my biggest fear in life, I don't even want to think about it. I will give him a big hug when he comes home from school today and will never be short with him again when he wants my attention and I'm too busy doing something else. I'm actually crying writing this with tears rolling down my cheek so I can hardly see my screen. Things like this should never happen, ever! You'll be in my thoughts and I will keep reminding myself how precious every single minute is that we get to spend with our children. Thank you for finding the strength to visit my blog today - I hope your family's life will return to some sort of normality soon. Creating art will help you heal! Sending you lots of love. zsuzsa #24

  11. Such terrible news Lisca, I'm so sad for all of your family to have to endure this pain. I love that you're making stars, it seems in some way like a tribute to your grandchild who is now an angel among the stars looking down on you. Try to be strong.

    Sending hugs

  12. Dear Lisca. I cannot imagine the sorrow in your family at this time. It is so very hard when things happen "in the wrong order". I am so very thankful you all have faith in Jesus as Saviour at a time like this. May Father God hold your hands, may you know Him weeping alongside you as you grieve. Remember that we are told in Psalms that He gathers all our tears in a bucket - they are not wasted. May you each one rest in Him, sharing your heart with Father.
    God bless you, dear sister.

  13. I am so sorry for your loss and that of your family. This sort of thing should never happen. My postive thoughts go out to you. I just learned to make those stars you and your friend were making for the wedding. A patient at my DH's chemotherapy infusion center was making them to decorate the place for the holidays. It is encourages me to see such ill people still creating. Like people said above..art will get you through alot! #25

  18. Oh, Lisca---- I'm so very sorry for the loss of your grandchild. I will add you and your family to my prayers and yes, I will hug my three sweethearts extra tight this weekend. You will be in my thoughts too.
I just made snowflakes like those for my youngest granddaughter's BD two weeks ago. I made them in blue, purple and pink: blue and purple to go with her "Frozen" theme and pink because it's her favourite colour. The snowflakes remain hanging from the ceiling for the Christmas season.
    Take care, Lisca. Hugs, Nann

  20. Lisca I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your darling grandchild. Lean on your family and friends, eat well, sleep as well as you can, stay well and don't be too hard on yourself on the bad days. When my daughter died my mum was so strong for me even tho she was devasted herself. We cried a lot together but 8 years on we are somehow still standing and looking forward to the future. Sending you my very biggest hug as I know that words don't make a lot of difference at this time.

  22. What devastating news. It is hard to lose a child so my heart goes out to all of you. Love the little book you are working on. I had a chuckle at those paper stars. They are all over the office here, more each day. We all thought the student workers were making them but they deny it. So where are they coming from?!

  23. Lisca I am sooo sorry to hear your devastating news... The death of a child is so hard to bear, and for the parents to outlive their own children is all the wrong way around. You and your family are in my prayers. I am glad that you have faith in God to sustain you all.

Your wedding card and the paper stars are lovely. Keep going if you can - the card will be even more beautiful for the sacrifice put into it, making it when your heart feels a million miles away.

Thank you for taking the trouble to comment this week when there's so much going on. The soap making class was really fun, even if the last two sessions weren't quite my cup of tea! My favourite session was definitely No. 2 with the natural soaps, and this is the direction I want to go in really. I started using my lemon soap today in the kitchen, and it's true - it really does get rid of the oniony smell!

  24. Hi Lisca, thanks for the visit. I am truely sorry to hear of your loss, the parents must not know what's hit them. It's a terrible thing to loose a child and not something you get over very quickly.
Pleased however to hear the work is still carrying on for your house and look forward to seeing more photos. Big hugs, Angela x 31

  27. Dearest Lisca, Your heartbreaking news brought tears to my eyes. I have had friends lose their children and it is truly the hardest thing to go through. I am reminded of a poem that I shared in
a past blog post that says our children are just lent to us. Truly it is the hope eternal life that has brought me the greatest consolation when loved ones die and I am glad that your son and daughter in law and the rest of your family have the faith and the hope that you will see your precious child/ grandchild again some day. Christmas time is a specially difficult time but I like to think of those who have gone before us celebrating Christmas with the birthday celebrant. One day, we too will experience that awesome celebration!
Sending you big, warm hugs and prayers for God's grace and consolation during this difficult time.
    Love, peggy

  28. Oh Lisca, what sad, unbearably heartbreaking news.....I'm so sorry to hear of your Granddaughter's death. Your son and DiL must be completely devastated, I'm glad they have lots of support from their church family in the UK.
I can understand that crafting must help when you yourself must feel so helpless. It's good that busy hands can help quieten a frantic mind.
    Sending you healing hugs,
    Your friend, LLJ xxxx

  32. Oh Lisca so very sad to lose one young like that .. the LORD is such a comfort at such times and really every day. I simply could not cope without Him, "As thy days so shall thy Strength be " Deuteronomy 33 Pray for that Strength to uphold you all.

So easy to say that the Lord will comfort you and give you peace, but the reality is that you are all going to be grieving and even with your faith the pain is still very real.
