WOYWW - Living in a building site

What’s On Your Workdesk? Wednesday

(In case you're wondering what this is...It's a weekly blog hop to see what others have on their desks. If you're interested, go to http://www.stamping-ground.blogspot.com.es/)

Hi peeps! From this week onwards we’re living in a building site! And this is what my desk looks like at the moment: it’s a fold up table, still packed! Let me explain.

We are a retired couple living out in the middle of nowhere in rural Spain. That’s all nice and idyllic while we are fit and healthy and are able to drive. But there will come a time when we will want to live amongst folk in a community. So we have bought a site in a village, 35 miles away, which has a skeleton building on it. The previous owner started to build something but never finished the project. Building regulations have changed since and we have to practically start again. Start building is what we have done on Monday morning. We haven’t got a lot of savings, but we can pay two builders and their equipment for three months. My husband can do a lot to help and we’ll see how far we get. We hope to have the building weather proof before the (Northern hemisphere) winter, i.e. roof on and windows and doors in etc. Hopefully get even more done so that we can live at least in part of it.
We are ‘camping’ here in the meantime and as far as crafting is concerned I got as far as getting the table out of storage, so there is nothing to see on my desk.

Last week I had photos of about almonds on my desk. I’ve started to get some papers and materials together for a two page layout, and I hope to have that finished by the weekend. Here they are on the kitchen table.

You also saw photos of my wedding last week, and I have since done a scrapbook page of those. Here is the photo of the finished layout. The description will be at the end of this blog (as it's getting a bit long and well done those who have gotten this far...)

It’s going to be an exciting few months. And next week I will hopefully have a desk to show you.

Bye for now and God bless

Lisca

I like the CSI (Color, Stories and Inspiration) challenge and their brief this week was this:
These photos of my wedding all those years ago have been lying there waiting to be put in a scrapbook. The colours matched those of this week’s palette, so here they are!

I’ve called it True Companion because that is what my husband is amongst other things. Simon (the vicar in the picture) in one of his ‘pre-wedding’ talks asked me why I wanted to marry this man. He expected something like ‘Because I love him’, but I said: “This is the man I want to grow old with”.  Now we are retired and officially ‘old’, he is still my best friend, my confidant, my rock, the person I most like to be with: my true companion.

We both like the song True Companion by Marc Cohn so I have copied the last verse and put it in the envelope. (I’ll copy the words at the end).

The fluttering hearts I had seen somewhere on the internet and I honestly don't know who it was. I'd love to acknowledge the idea, but I copied it and suffice to say the idea wasn't mine.

So have I resolved the case? The colours certainly are all there. The evidence is found in the envelope (hidden behind the large photo), the paint (back ground with white acrylic paint) and buttons. The testimony is the journaling in the envelope.

MY TRUE COMPANION (the last verse)
When the years have done irreparable harm
I can see us walking arm in arm
Just like the couple on the corner do
‘Cause boy I will always be in love with you
When I look in your eyes I still see that spark
Until the shadows fall, until the room grows dark
Then when I leave this earth
I’ll be with the angels standing
I’ll be out there waiting for my true companion
My true companion

Your wedding page is so beautiful! I just love how you added those flowers to the page. It's really lovely. Best of luck with your building adventure!

Sounds like an exciting time ahead of you Lisca, good luck with the building, a new home will be fun, but having your table packed up is not! Lovely LO of your wedding, the flying hearts are really sweet. I was making a birthday banner card for my step father. I'd stamped the images on the card and them stamped them again on scrap papers and was about to paper piece them to make the card colourful. The set is Hero Arts Friendly Flags if you're interested.

Lisca thanks for visiting me! Please feel free to make paper teacups, it is really fun. I enjoyed your blog today--wow, what an adventure you guys are on. You are very brave and doing exciting things. I am in my fifties, and I often think about how my hubby and I should be set up for a future when we're too old to do stuff! And, I have never ever scrapbooked my own wedding from 1989. You've inspired me. Happy WOYWW. Sandy Leigh #54

Good luck with your building project! I'm in a rural setting but very close to a small town so I can be back among people quickly. It's a nice place to live for sure.

Good luck with your building project it sounds interesting. Your wedding scrapbook page looks wonderful. Thank you for sharing. I was going to say isn't it a shame you can't get your building project on your work table but then realised you can - with photographs so maybe next week we might see a work in progress photo :). Thank you for popping over to my blog earlier much appreciated. Anita #50

What a beautiful post, Lisca. It is particularly special for me today because today is the 29th anniversary of the day I met my hubby! We are definitely "growing old together" and I love him more all the time. I do feel for you, with everything in boxes!! I was without my ARTHaven for months last year during the move - I started packing up well in advance of the move, and it was such fun unpacking everything and finding homes for it in my beautiful new room. You will be the same, I am sure!

Thanks for your visit and your lovely comment - I am glad you enjoyed "looking over my shoulder" - how nice that sounds! We are enjoying our holiday at home while Mum is away. My parcel of goodies should come in the next day or two and I'm really looking forward to it.

Happy WOYWW,

Your wedding page is beautiful. You certainly will be busy for quite some time. I hope the builders move quickly and you are back to normal and moved in soon. That is quite a big project for you both.
Have a great week,

That sounds very adventurous! But very prudent. Love the pages. Are you near the tomato festival? I went to the Explorer's camp (in Spain) in 1969, but I have no idea where it was as my father was stationed in Belgium at the time and we were but packages on a train lol.

A belated happy 'anniversary' Shoshi! Enjoy your quality time together.

I feel honoured that I've inspired you. I hope you will share those wedding layouts when you've done them. Journaling now after many years will be more special, when you look back on that day, certain things will have stuck in your mind. You'll be looking back with an older (and hopefully wiser) perspective. Could be interesting....

Thank you for visiting me and for explaining about the Friendly Flags. I'm sure your step father will like his card!

Thanks Lizzy for visiting me regularly. Yes, life is hectic at the moment and exciting at the same time. I still find time to scrap. I'm doing al ayout on the kitchen table with very limited supplies, but I'm scrapping!

Hello and like others your post has brought tears to my eyes. I love the words you have written and could say the same. I met my DH when I was 16 and he was 23. I am now 63 and he is my best friend.
What an interesting time you have had and I admire your present undertaking and I hope all goes well.
Thank you for coming to say hello and I look forward to reading your blog some more. Anne x #32

Wow Lisca, what excitement! I wish you good weather and success with your schedule...what an achievement it will be! Loved your almond and figs posts. So great good luck with finding time for crafting...y, it's a good therapy when you need a break!

Thanks for your good wishes for our first meeting anniversary, Lisca! I can't believe how long we've known each other and I love him more each year that passes.

Thank you also for your two lovely comments on my blog, and I'm glad you enjoyed your virtual tour of the Kaffe Fassett exhibition! I am still basking in the aftermath of all that colour - a real feast! I bought his DVD, "Kaffe's Colour Quest" and it was worth every penny - I was drooling all the way through! As for the charity shops, they were in Newton Abbot, which is a small town in South Devon not far from where we live. It's a good shopping centre and has all the usual useful shops and plenty of charity shops! I love rummaging! I agree that the tablecloth looks like Hardanger - we call it that too. I used to do a lot of that sort of thing years ago but haven't done much embroidery recently.

Have a great week!
Shoshi

WOW Lisca, what a beautiful song! I don't think I've ever heard it although I like Marc Cohn. I'm going to have to search it on Youtube and see if it's familiar! I just re-watched my daughter's wedding video earlier today...she got married two months ago, and now I'm in such a sentimental mood!!

Your new house, or the beginnings of it at least, sound wonderful!! How fun and exciting it would be to literally start from the ground up! And in Spain too!!! I bet it is SO beautiful there!

Thanks for your sweet comments about the Smash*book on my post last week...sorry its taken me so long to get here and respond! I think you're right....if it's difficult/expensive to get 12 x 12 papers and embellishments there, Smashing would be perfect. I really love it because there are no "rules." You just open a page and start working. It doesn't have to be in order, you don't have to start on page one..you just PLAY! Since I'm sure Smash*books would be hard to find there, I'm thinking you could just find any sort of journal or book that you like, and then just print off patterned papers and stick them to the pages..and then put all your goodies and embellishments in and viola! I've even been thinking about doing a series on a "homemade" Smash*book for crafters who don't have the money or the access to get the store-bought ones! I might just have to get started on that soon!!

Happy WOYWW!
