A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 15 November 2022 - T for countries you've never heard of

Hello lovely girls, Here I am again writing something for you. Today I have three postcards because they are all from countries that I had to look up on the map. Here is the first one:

This card comes from Serbia. Serbia is a country of the former Yugoslavia.
The striped bit is Kosovo. not recognized by Serbia as a different country. The population is 92 % Albanian rather than Serbs.

The stamp is lovely. It features Taurus, from the horoscope.

The second postcard is this:
It comes from a small village Petrijevci in eastern Croatie.
I have been to Croatia a few times. The coast is spectacularly beautiful.
The stamp features one of the islands off the Dalmation coast, Dugi Otok.

Telašćica is a 10 km long, 160–1800 m wide, deep inlet dotted with cliffs, islets and bays. The cliffs of Dugi Otok, called the stene locally, rise to 161 m above sea level and drop down to a depth of 90 m. Telašćica bay, which actually consists of three smaller bays, is a good, safe harbour for all kinds of vessels. The northeastern side of the bay is completely bare, but the southwestern shore is covered in thick forest of pine, olive and fig trees. There are six islets and rocks in the Bay: Korotan, Galijola, Gozdenjak, Farfarikulac, Gornji Školj and Donji Školj.

Lake Mir is a saltwater lake on a narrow strip of land between Telašćica Bay and the open sea. The lake is salty due to underground connections to the sea.

Doesn't that look absolutely beautiful?

The third card comes from Slovenia:
Featured is the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana.

On these maps you can see all three countries I have mentioned.

The stamps are pretty. There is a Christmas stamp and the stamp on the right features a grouse.

What else can I tell you? As today is T for Tuesday, I will find a drink as my qualifier. The T-Party is hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard
Our eldest stayed with us this past week and he has a very strict diet as his pancreas is not working.  So I made corn tortillas:
They turned out fine and I cooked them without oil (as per his diet)

And here is my glass of white wine. (Yes I know this is a strange meal, but these were the only things he could eat. He also has IBS).

Father and son had some very special times. One day he explained how a certain music program called QBase (Which hubby has on his computer) works:

That is it from me this week,
Wishing you all a good week,

A Postcard A Day - Friday 11-11-22 -Friday Smiles

Hello lovely ladies,

Here we are again at the end of another week. Our week has been steady, not much change, and that is in itself a positive. Today we are gathering all our positive moments and smiles and link in with Annie at A Stitch In Time.

First off is a postcard I received (that is always worth a smile):

The card features the front page of a Ladybird book, from a series 'Lives of the great scientists'.
The stamps are really lovely:

There are pears on the left and roses on the right and in the middle is a plant I haven't had time to look up. I'm sure somebody will tell me.

Here in the Kay household we have had a lot of smiles in spite of hubby being so ill. Monday our eldest son arrived. He has a medical condition that he can only eat certain things, so I took him shopping in the big supermarket in town. Then hubby said he wanted to come along for the ride. So he got dressed and off we went.
Said son works from home so he can work from here too. He stays at the top floor, which is a self contained flat, so he can work in peace. But tomorrow (Saturday) he is flying home again.

The next photo is
Alfonso, a lad that we know here in the village. He has gone to New York to run the Marathon this past  weekend. He has not returned yet, but he will get a hero's welcome, I'm sure.

Last weekend our friend David came to help hoover out the wood burner and sweep the chimney tubes. Hubby was there just to give instructions so-say. Of course those two are best buddies, so a good chat was had by both of them.

That is all from me today. I will add some funnies and 'thinkies' at the bottom.

Now heading over to Annie. Have a lovely weekend,

Hugs,
Lisca

A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 8 November 2022 - T for Taos

 Hello lovely girls,

Today I really have a card subject that begins with a T!  Very appropriate for the T-Party hosted by Elizabeth and Bluebeard. Of course I will need a drink as well, but that will come later. Let's look at the card:

It comes from a Postcrossing friend called Connie. She lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
'The Taos area is located in northern New Mexico's high desert bounded by the Sangre de Cristo mountains. It's known for historic adobe buildings, long time artist colony, world class skiing and spiritual landscape.' The photos show (from top to bottom): Taos mountains, Taos balloons, Taos pueblo.
Connie mentions that the pueblo is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Reading up on the area on the Internet, I discovered it has the same climate as we have, so I would feel very much at home in Taos.

The stamps are really gorgeous. The forever stamp with the skull I should have showed you last week, when we had the Day of the dead. The additional ounce stamp with the Uncle Sam hats is very poignant with all colors and races. But my favorite is the Mariachi stamp. Perhaps because I like mariachi music and find it uplifting. (And also we have Mexican friends).

I could do with some mariachi music at the moment as life is not easy these days. My husband is still very ill, although on the bright side, we seem to have the pain better under control with a trans-dermal patch and Morphine injections.

Some days are better than others, but while his daughter was here there were some highlights:

Opening the sacks of almond shells in readiness of the cold evenings when we light the fire.

This is our little almond/pellet burner:

And here he is having a little scalp massage:

Now for my drink... As hubby is not able to eat anything, I can now cook whatever  I like. I made pasta alle vongole, which is Italian clam pasta. Of course I had a glass of white wine with that.

And here is the link to the recipe that is closest to the way I make it: Linguine pasta alle vongole.

My preferred pasta with this is also linguine (those flattened spaghettis). And I leave the clams inside their shells as I love to suck the clam out of the shell and taste the juices.

Now to finish I have a few 'thinkies' as Valerie calls them:

That's it from me today,

Happy T-Day all!

Hugs,

Lisca

A Postcard A Day - Wednesday 2 November 2022 - Second on the 2nd

 Hello lovely ladies,

Here is an old blogpost that I posted on the same day in 2015:

Here in Spain it's a Bank Holiday, i.e. a day off. The official festival day was yesterday, the 1st of November (All Saints day) when everybody goes to the cemetery to pay respects to loved ones who have past away. Graves get spruced up, there are flowers everywhere, and the cemetery is the busiest it's been all year. This year the 1st of November fell on a Sunday, so the Spanish have their day off on Monday!

As I am in Spanish mode I want to show you a Spanish map card today. Postcrossing members often ask for map cards, so I do my best to find them. A few weeks ago I went to a Christian Women's Conference on the coast which involved travelling by bus. When I was at the Granada bus station I found a stall that sold postcards and lo and behold they sold map cards! Hurray! I immediately bought five!

This is the region I live in. I live on the far right of the green bit. I have marked it with a little black asterix. The yellow dotted areas are national parks and as you can see we live just outside a national park. It is a beautiful area. Here is another postcard:

I know it's very dry and these are what they call 'badlands' where nothing grows, but I find it stunningly beautiful!

Finally I'd like to show you a new sheet of postage stamps that I bought at the post office this week:

They are about rural architecture, and to be used for mail inside Europe.

That's me done for today.

See you again tomorrow when I link up with T for Tuesday.

Blessings,

Lisca

A Postcard A Day / Tuesday 1 November 2022 / T for

 Hello lovely girls,

How are you all? Recovered from the Halloween celebrations? They have started celebrating Halloween here in  Spain too. The children get to dress up. (Any excuse to dress up) and there is a parade and a competition. I have just been out for a drink with some friends who have small children and there is a bouncy castle and loud music and the children are having fun. There is face painting and a lot of children are dressed up. Great fun. Of course I do not agree with the whole Halloween concept. One should not make fun of the forces of evil. OK, lets not go there. Once I start going...

Anyway, I am here to show you a card, and a drink for the T-Party and to tell you how things are going here in the K household.

Here is the card (and the drink):

This is a postcard that comes to me from Pennsylvania. A lady called Mary wrote to me and said that when she thinks of Spain, she thinks of wine. And she sent me this card with wine glasses. Very nice. Cheers Mary!

The stamp is the round flower stamp. Not the orange one this time but a pink flower.

As it is the T-Party today, hosted by Elizabeth and Bluebeard, my postcard will also qualify as a drink.

The weather is still very dry out here and we have been having bush fires. The photos below have been taken near where our cave house is, but we are not there at the moment.
It is near our 'weekend' home.

But it is still scary.

Hubby continues to be very ill. At least now with the Morphine we have the pain under control.

Some friends from church who run an ice cream parlor in the summer, have turned on their machinery to make hubby a tub of ice cream (when they heard he could have some).
They closed the shop at the end of September but they were happy to turn on their machine again especially and make us some vanilla ice cream.

And hubby really enjoyed the taste of it!

My sister and her husband came for a couple of days:
We went for a drink so this is another qualifier for the T-Party. (Although our glasses are empty).

That is about it for today. Wishing you all a happy T-Day!

Keep smiling,

Hugs,

Lisca
