A Postcard A Day - Friday 12 October 2018 - Friday Smiles

Hello lovely girls, it's nearly weekend. I hope you have had a great week with lots to smile about.
My week has been fine. I'm glad to be home after being away for a month. And also glad to be back in the sun and the warm weather.
Imagine my surprise when on Tuesday the temperatures began to plummet, and when we were at our favorite restaurant having lunch (yes, big smile) it started to rain very hard and noisily. When we looked outside, there was hail!

My visit to the bathroom scales did not result in a smile and we have decided to go on a diet as from Monday. Many years ago we used to do Slimming World and we liked that, so I have spent a few afternoons looking through recipes and making a menu for the week, including snacks. We want to do this until Christmas and see what happens.
Today I will make a (long) shopping list.  I am not too keen on fat free stuff and diet things with artificial sweeteners, so it's going to be tricky. Perhaps just as well living out in the sticks means that there is not much choice in fat free/diet products.

Let me show you a postcard! This postcard comes from Sao Paolo in Brazil. Most countries organise 'meetups' for Postcrossing members. At these meetings the members write as many postcards as they possibly can to randomly chosen members in the world. Everyone on their table then signs the card. This card is such a card. They had a postcard specially made  for the meeting and I was really pleased to be fortunate enough to receive one.
The stamp was also very pretty:
About the 200 year anniversary of the independence of Brazil. The image is of
Dom João VI, the seventeenth king of Portugal He established his court in Rio de Janeiro after the Napoleonic invasion of Portugal.
Although Dom João VI (1769-1826) never ruled over an independent Brazil, historians call him the "Founder of the [Brazilian] Nationality." When he arrived in Brazil in 1808, he opened the colony's ports to free trade with friendly nations, a move that signaled Brazil's first independent encounter with the rest of the world.

It's interesting to learn about the history of other countries, isn't it.

Of course I am going to link up with Annie at A Stitch In Time with my smiles. Did you see her post on the 28th of September? We (my hubby and I) went to see Annie on our way to Somerset. It was lovely to finally meet her.

We were treated to coffee and cake that she had made herself. We saw her beautiful work room, I also met Millie and we inspected the new campervan. (it's a beauty!)
Annie really made me smile when she said I didn't sound Dutch at all!

Here in Spain we are celebrating Spain Day, so today is a national holiday and everyone has a long weekend. I know this is not the case for my friends in the UK and USA but nevertheless, I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

I'll finish with some funnies I found on the internet.

Keep smiling,
Hugs,
Lisca

  1. Wow. It must have gotten cold in the atmosphere to get all that hail. It almost looks like snow in the photo. And it is cool you got to meet Annie. It's fun to meet people you blog with often and see what they are like in person. Happy weekend. Hugs-Erika

  2. I thought it WAS snow when I first saw it (I read what Erika wrote).

I was SO impressed with that Sao Paulo postcard. That is a very famous bridge, but I don't remember the name of it. I'm sure you know, but Sao Paulo is the capital and the largest city in South America. It's also one of the richest. I created some altered book pages using images from there I found in a magazine.

I LOVE the funnies. Some of these are REALLY clever. Whoever runs that community center has a quirky sense of humor and likes puns, too.

Have a super Friday and a wonderful weekend. SO glad you made it home safely.

  4. For some reason my ipad wont let me comment on your blog [all the others are fine so it's strange]. I'm now on the lap top :-)
It's so lovely to have you back joining in the fun today. Thank you for calling in to see me whilst on your travels....you are such lovely people and made me feel very special.
We are venturing out for our first weekend in the motor home this weekend [even though it's pouring with rain and my sciatica isn't letting up!]....I'm soooo excited.
    Hugs,
    Annie x

  5. Your funnies made me smile, especially that last one.
I saw your hail storm on facebook. I am glad to say we didn't get that, but it did come as far down as Albox and Saliente alto. But we have had a fair amount of rain which had brought the land to life.
Good luck with the weight loss. I don't like the fat-free, low sugar etc foods, and I won't drink any of the light sodas with artificial sweeteners in, especially aspartame, but I am trying to be very careful about how many carbs I eat. It is really hard to avoid bread, but I have cut right down.
I too am enjoying an extra day of 'weekend'. Enjoy yours. Kate x

  6. Hi Lisca, we're back from visiting parents so I'm a bit late today. I believe that Slimming World is the best diet but does require some organising. Some years ago I joined with a friend, not that I've ever really been particularly over weight but I'd been told it was a healthy way to eat. Both myself and my husband both lost weight on the diet and I was amazed just how much. Although we don't follow it exactly now but still make many of the meat free meals. Loving the funnies too. Oh by the way that was not my head though I can understand why you might think it could be. I put the cacti plants in the aviary over the winter as they don't like the freezing weather (I used to breed Love Birds and the aviaries are insulated so stop the plants from freezing over the winter). I'm not sure I should tell you this but I'm off to another craft show Sunday. Have a lovely weekend and happy Spain Day xXx

  7. Brrr! I thought that wss snow too! Sitting inside our caravan with a howling gale outside today! I agree with you about avoiding so called slimming products - real food in smaller quantities is much better! Love those funnies - someone has fun! Have a great weekend! Chrisx
