A Postcard A Day - Tuesday 27 Feb 2018 - T for scrapbooking, postcards and a bit of food.

Hello everyone, a happy Tuesday to you all! Are we all sitting comfortably? Then I will begin....

I have been having 'gut' problems and that is nothing new. I have a slight wheat intolerance and half the year I eat wheat free to keep this discomfort away. So I knew it was time for the diet again. Also, as I have been in and out of bed with the flu and have not been as active as normal, consequently I have put on a lot of weight. Needless to say that weight needs to come off. So I've cut out sweet things like cakes and chocolate, also wine and spirits. I'm doing wheat free and low-carb, old fashioned diabetes diet. You know: little and often. We do this every year at a certain point and we eat much better when we're on a diet. Hubby loves it (he can have bread of course). I have a spiraliser and we love zucchini noodles or sweet potato spaghetti. Here is what we had yesterday:

It's spiralised sweet potato with kale, tomato and white beans. Cheese on the top and put under the grill. Yummy.

I have set myself the task to scrapbook one day a week. My husband gets a good fire going so that the room is nice and warm and I spend a day 'playing' with my stash. And yes, I have also made some layouts:

This is one of my mum. The journaling reads:"Mum at age 92, enjoying life in spite of (very) bad eye sight. January 2017"
This is our neighbour Serafín bringing us a basketful of beans. The journaling reads:"Serafín often brings us produce. He is an older chap but works his patch of land every day and walks there in 20 minutes. He always brings his wife a jerrycan of water from his well. So sweet!"

I've kept my layouts simple. No complicated artwork and messy mixed media. Just memory keeping.

I did receive quite a few postcards. Here are two with a 1950s theme. The first one is a black and white photo of a girl playing hop-scotch. We used to play that but I can't for the life of me remember how it went. Does anyone remember? Did we sing a song while hopping?
It was sent to me from Russia, as was the next one:

A  typical American 1950s picture. I think it was considered a pin-up in those days.
The stamps are beautiful. The triangular one is about embroidery and the middle one is a gem stone but I can't read what it says.
It's T for Tuesday, so I am going to link up with Elisabeth and Bleubeard for this occasion. I hope you will too. All you need to do is feature a drink in your blog somewhere. Here is an empty wine bottle. My last bottle before the diet started. It's water from now on (and herbal tea).

Wishing all of you a very happy T-Day.
(Don't forget  2nd on the second on Friday)
Blessings,
Lisca

  3. Love the postcards! That yummy potato and bean dish looks good. I know all about the gut issues. It is amazing how much better I feel when I eat gluten and grain free. I hope that your gut issues are resolved soon and that you feel better.
    Happy Tea Day,

  4. Well your diet meal certainly looks yummy to me!!! Hubs is talking about doing a diet as we have both put on some pound this year. Wheat free sounds good to me but I doubt I'd ever get him to try that. :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog ♥
    Happy T Day!

    1. Also meant to say I'm so sorry you have been so ill too. It's so hard on us at our age to recover from these things.
Thanks for stopping by my blog... the bottle tree is just a sculpture piece. In the southern part of the Untied States it started as a tradition with the slaves as a way to warf off evil spirits. It was believed they got got caught in the bottles at night and then evaporated when the morning sun hit them. Your history lesson for the day. :)

  6. Great post. I a, sorry you have been ill. I have gut problems, too. People have told me to try a gluten free diet, but so far I haven’t bitten the bullet and done this. I love that you scrapbook, and that layout of your mom is precious! Thanks for sharing the post cards, too. Happy T-Day!

The scrapbook pages look lovely, its good to sit and look at our photos this way and I'm sure you will be storing many memories this way.
The postcard from Russia with the American pin up took me back to thinking of the old movies.
    Happy T day wishes.

  9. Wow, your spiralised sweet potato with kale, tomato and white beans sounds and looks so yummy! I love your scrapbooking too, the pages are beautiful with the photos and I really like the backgrounds that you create - perfect 😁. As always such great postcards too, I remember playing hop scotch and seem to think that we use to sing and do the actions to - One two buckle my shoe, Three four close the door, Five six pick up sticks, Seven eight shut the gate, Nine ten start again. Thanks for the memories and wishing you a happy T Day! J 😊

  10. your dish Looks so tasty, i should remember not to click your blog when being hungry;) but your diet sounds really like something to persevere. we had a similar game of hopping on fields (drawn with chalk to the ground) - but i think it had no verses, but some complicated rules of sequences. which i don´t remember;)
    happy t-day:)

  14. That dish looks delicious, and the diet sounds doable even if you're having to give up wine. Good luck! I loved hopscotch :) We didn't sing but chanted that One two buckle my shoe rhyme. Happy T Tuesday

  15. That certainly doesn't look like diet food. Looks very yummy. You created lovely memory pages. Love the one of your mom. We didn't sing any songs or rhymes for hopscotch. We just tossed the stone in the square, hopped the numbers skipping the square where the stone landed, turned around and hopped back picking up the stone. Always being careful not to step on a line or put your other foot down. thanks for the memory. Happy T Day

  16. I wouldn't mind eating your spiralised sweet potato with kale, tomato and white beans with cheese on the top all year long, Lisca. But my hubby wouldn't ;-( It looks delicious.

I hope your tummy settles down soon. My sister has severe Celiac and gluten intolerance all year long. It makes me wonder where we went wrong with food production and processing. It sounds like you have it all in hand though. So I hope you're back on an even keel and feel better soon ;-)

    Here's ome hopscotch/jump rope rhyme I remember:

    Janey and Johnny
    Sitting in a tree,
    K-I-S-S-I-N-G
    First comes love,
    Then comes marriage
    Then comes Janey
    With a baby carriage.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

  17. Good luck with the diet. I have been trying to eat less myself, but I never seem to lose weight no matter what I do, but exercise is always my secret weapon. Your spiralized veggies look delicious. I have yet to try that but think I need to. Hope it was a fantastic T day. Hugs-Erika

  18. I love the look of your sweet potato dish! We too have been cutting down on the carbs - good job too - my results were fine yesterday and I am hoping to lose some weight in the bargain! I love those two scrap book pages! I must get to making some soon! I love your postcards too, we used to have skipping rhymes but don't remember any for hopscotch! Belated Happy T Day! Chrisx

  19. I am back from Missouri, where I spent two very sleepless days and nights. After returning, I crashed. Finally awake and drinking my first coffee of the day, I am thrilled to see you shared your T Tuesday experience.

That definitely doesn't look like diet food to me. I could eat this every day. So glad I'm not a vegan, because the protein rich diabetic diet looks wonderful. I know it won't take long to start feeling better.

The postcards are beautiful and I agree with Eileen that is how I learned about hop scotch. There are two versions and one is for British and one American.

Thank you for all the contributions you make to T Tuesday. I look forward to water for the next few T Tuesdays. I won't be disappointed!
