A Postcard A Day - Friday 13 October 2017 - Friday Smiles

Hello lovely people,
I hope you have had a wonderful week with lots of smiles. I feel so much better now I am back in the sunshine. The British weather was really getting me down!

I want to share some embroidery with you, that our friend Gill Trueman made. She has framed it and it is hanging on her wall. When we stayed with them, I took this photo:

It was inspired by the bark of a tree. Here is some detail:
I think it's beautiful. I didn't know she could embroider and she told me that she just 'messed about' with some bits and pieces she had lying about.

One of my smiles this week was the fact that the council is improving the little lane that our house faces. Our house is built on an steep incline (over four storeys). So we have access to the bottom lane as well as the top street (which is in the centre of the village).
This is the lowest floor of our house, which is still under construction:
It's a bit of a mess now and we get woken up every morning by the noise of the diggers etc.
They are also putting all the overhead powerlines underground. Hurray. In the photo you can see the pink/brown tube where the lines will go underground:
It will be really nice when it is all finished.

Remember the restaurant we went to in the UK with lamps that looked like hats? (My blog 22 Sept 2017)
Outside was an insect hotel.

I had never seen one before and I think it is a great idea. It certainly made me smile!
I have cropped the explanation so you can see:
I hope you can read it.

That is it from my this morning. I will be linking up  with Virginia at Rocking Your Week Friday. (The lovely Annie is  enjoying her hols, so no link-up there.)

At the end there are some funny doorstops that I wanted to show you.

Meanwhile, have a good day today and a wonderful week ahead full of smiles.

Hugs
Lisca

  2. Hi Lisca, I knew Annie wasn't there today but couldn't resist leaving her a little message and linking up anyway. The weather is pretty mixed here at the moment. It was really sunny yesterday and very glum today. Loving your doorstops and the embroidery is gorgeous. I think we are becoming more aware of the importance of insects, particularly bees in the UK. There has been a problem for some species for various reasons and they are now extinct. If we loose our bees there will be nothing to pollinate our plants and that would cause a massive problem. Have a great weekend, Angela xxx

  5. Ah yes I can see how the English weather was getting you down, we've actually had a sunny weekend but I've been at a craft class for the duration so not had time to enjoy it. Loving the insect hotel, I've seen loads of these and you can buy little ones for home. I hope you share the finished road when its done, it's always lovely to see a project completed!

I hope you've had a great weekend and week ahead.

    Hugs

    xxx
