A Postcard a Day - Friday 5 Feb 2016 Friday Smiles

Good Morning! It's Friday again.

For those of you who have read my Wednesday blog, I want to tell you that I am feeling much better. (I knew it wouldn't last long).

Today I will show a postcard, as usual. Then I'd like to tell you how my week has been, concentrating on the positive things, and then I hope i can make you smile with a little 'funny'.

But first my postcard:

As you might have guessed it comes from India. Kamran, who sent it to me, says it is a village girl in the Kutch District. Isn't she colorful! The Kutch district is a district of Gujarat state in western India. Covering an area of 45,652 km², it is the largest district of India.

The stamp is very interesting. It features JRD Tata, whom I'd never heard of. Apparently he founded Air India and Tata Motors. Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata was a French-born Indian aviator and business tycoon. He was the Chairman of Tata Sons. He became India's first licensed pilot in 1929.

My week has been good. The weather is still warm and sunny. The almond trees are in blossom (see Wednesday's blog)

The weekend was full of socializing as usual and during the week my DH is working hard at our new living quarters, which are nearing completion. I've ordered my kitchen yesterday. I'm having it made by a local carpenter. And my cooker has arrived:
It has 5 burners and is meant to look a bit rustic. There is not much choice in cookers for bottled gas.
I have always dreamt of a large oven as I use the oven a lot and like baking too This one even has a spit to grill a chicken. How cool is that!

Wednesday my DH drove me to the nearest town so I could meet a fellow lace maker. I had found (and I have now met) two ladies in our nearby town that do lace making. I'm really thrilled.
We then also walked through the market as it was market day.
I bought nuts and seeds and dried fruit.

Now for something funny:

I'm linking this with Annie's Friday Smile and later on with Virginia at Celtic House to 'rock our Friday'.

That's it for today,
Have a good week and... keep smiling!

Blessings,

Lisca

  1. Hi Lisca, I'm so glad that you are feeling brighter today. My son suffers badly from SAD, he lives in north-east Scotland where there's very few hours of daylight in winter, so I have some idea of what you are going through. Another lovely post. Your cooker looks fabulous. I particularly like the photo of the market stall - very tempting. And the funny has me chuckling still :) Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend. Elizabeth xx

  8. Hello Lisca!! I didn't realise you were a lacemaker too!!! We really must meet up and trade patterns!!! When Hubby and I went to States, I managed to find a lace maker at Plymouth Rock. She let me photograph two of her books, one of which she was working on the pattern. Didn't expect to see a lacemaker in US!!
That cooker looks fab. I would love an Aga if I was home more to utilise it!
Hugs and have a great week.

    1. Yes, I'd like an AGA too. We can import one from the UK but it costs thousands, which we cannot afford. Then you have to be able to afford to run it all the time because there's no point in firing it up when you want to cook something. So there goes my dream of an AGA.... This is the next best thing though.
Great that you are a lacemaker too. Julia mentioned it. I have lots of patterns if you are interested. Literally hundreds. The little circle you saw on the photo I have step-by-step instructions for, that my lace making teacher typed out for me before I left the UK. I also have lots of books. I have my own but i have also got my mum's books and those of her friend. My next project is making some Christmas decorations. I want to make an angel and some stars to hang in the tree.
I'm on Facebook under Lisca Meijer and my email address is liscameijer at rocketmaildotcom.
      Thanks for your visit,
      Have a smiley week,
      Lisca

  9. I love to see the pcs and stamps and this one is a gem. Great chuckle too.
I am suffering a major envy crisis as your cooker/oven is almost as big as my little kitchen. My cooker is a special teeny one of 500mm wide!

  10. A very belated Happy Friday/Monday Lisca, oooohooooh I love your new stove bet you just can't wait to have it all fitted and working...so exciting and the kitchen all order - we deserve to have some nice things as we get older. Must tell you about a great drawer my DH made that fits in the kickboard space under my kitchen cupboards...saw it on Pinterest on the net - not something you see in Australia. Anyway have a fabulous week Robyn

  12. Well, better late than never, I am finally visiting other posts from last Friday! Your cooker looks great. I wish mine was wide as that. The cave houses always look delightful to me, but I know I wouldn't be happy living in one. How nice to meet up with other lace makers. I work in the 'English style' and it is very different from the way the Spanish ladies do it, but I have enjoyed sharing ideas with some of them. I keep putting mine on hold as there are so many other things I want to do, but I am hoping to dust it off this year and have another go. We'll have to get together again and share some tips one day.
